Absolutely agree that many of us don't understand your culture but most of us understand families and that the longer you lie to them, the more betrayed they will feel when you finally come clean. You said yourself you would hate your son to keep secrets from you but that is the example you are setting him?

Honestly in your position I would say "we've split, it happened when you were so ill, I didn't want to add to all the problems at the time and it was fine, he's been great about our son, we're all okay, please support me in this decision."

I had forgotten how many people there are in England , had also forgotten the English passion for roadworks

Took best part of an hour driving 11 miles yikes fortunately daughter driving and she is very chilled.

Still typing on iPad so can't respond individually without taking hours But find it interesting the women are agreeing and the men saying little.

At the time it was a pRetty even mix of men and women doing the self-appointed traffic 'calming' I noticed

And it's the ex-husband's family that all look the same. Honestly. I should dig out my daughter's wedding photograph for you. You can spot her Dad's side - identical. My side of the family, all grinning, not a sliver of eye in sight. Cheeks and eyebrows practically meeting.

No, MY family runs to girls, all different names and some are on their 2nd or 3rd marriages. It can get confusing. Lively bunch, though, and extremely outspoken, and lots of fun.
