Hey Sparky, you've really been around!!! Things like what Oslo shared in her post are cool. I did a lot of research before I started traveling and went to places that had something unique or different to offer. So anything cool about a place that would intrigue me, puts it on my list of places to visit.
The Norwegian government has built a "doomsday" seed bank to store seeds from as many of the world's crop varieties and their botanical wild relatives as possible. The bank was created by hollowing out a 120-meter tunnel on Spitsbergen cut into rock with a natural temperature of -6 degrees Celsius, refrigerating it to -18 degrees Celsius, and then storing seeds donated by the 1,400 crop repositories maintained by countries around the world
Wow!!! Really cool info... it makes sense that somebody, somewhere would be doing this, but I never really thought about it! Ok, this is on my list of places I need to visit! Thanks Oslo
I posted that badly... if you read the first reply which I wrote, these are places that I have not been to, I've traveled to 28 countries and thought I was well traveled... I started looking into other places to go to and realized how much more of the world there is to see! The list is places I have not been to, but would like to know if anyone here has!
Nice traveling Skimpy, but I'm talking about the different places... There was a thread Gilly posted about travel, and a lot of people replied that they have traveled to most or almost all countries, I would like to more about these obscure travel destinations... but thanks for your reply!
I thought I was pretty well traveled until I realized there are 194 countries in the world. Above is a list of 53 of the more obscure countries. I have only been to one of them... how about you? If you have been to any of these countries I would love to know something about them! Please share your stories!!!
Andaman & Nicobar Islands Anguilla Ascension Island Azerbaijan Azores Benin Chagos Islands, includes Diego Garcia) Brunei Darussalam Burkina Faso Ceuta Chad Christmas Island Djibouti Dodecanese Islands Eritrea Estonia French Guiana Gabon Guinea Kaliningrad Kiribati Kyrgyzstan Lesotho Macao Madeira Malawi Mali Marshall Islands Mauritania Mauritius Mayotte Melilla Myanmar New Caledonia Northern Mariana Islands Oman - includes Masirah Island and Musandam Peninsula Palau Papua New Guinea Pridnestrovie Qatar Réunion Rodrigues Island Sao Tome & Principe Sierra Leone St. Helena St. Kitts & Nevis Svalbard (Spitzbergen) Togo Tonga Turkmenistan Turks & Caicos Islands Uzbekistan Vanuatu Wallis & Futuna
28 countries, 39 of the states, over 170 cities, I only speak English fluently... but always make sure I can say Please, Thank You, Hello and Goodbye in the language of whatever country I'm entering... the least I can do is to be polite!
It is with great regret and sorrow that I'm writing you. I had to elope with my new girlfriend because I wanted to avoid a scene with Mom and you.
I have been finding real passion with Stacy and she is so nice, but I knew you would not approve of her because of all her piercings, tattoos, tight motorcycle clothes and the fact that she is much older than I am. But it's not only the passion... Dad, she's pregnant.
Stacy said that we will be very happy. She owns a trailer in the woods and has a stack of firewood for the whole winter. We share a dream of having many more children.
Stacy has opened my eyes to the fact that marijuana doesn't really hurt anyone We'll be growing it for ourselves and trading it with the other people that live nearby for cocaine and ecstasy. In the meantime, we will pray that science will find a cure for AIDS so Stacy can get better. She deserves it.
Don't worry Dad. I'm 15 and I know how to take care of myself. Someday I'm sure that we will be back to visit so that you can get to know your grandchildren.
Love, Your son
P.S. Dad, none of the above is true. I'm over at Tommy's house. I just wanted to remind you that there are worse things in life than a report card. Mine is in my top desk drawer. I love you. Please call me when it's safe to come home.
Because if some idiot used it in the shower, and survived they could win a huge settlement from the court system by suing the manufacturer... sad isn't it?
Also, as a bit of an aside question: Jbibza, why the hell are you even weighing in on this question? You may consider yourself an American, but I mean, c'mon, you aren't exactly living here anymore and it isn't exactly like any of this affects you. Not saying that that is a bad thing, but your examples and your information, while probably thought out and researched, aren't exactly relevant to the current situation. It's easy to advocate amnesty when you don't live in California or Texas or Arizona or the States themselves. If you got fed up with the BS of the USA and left, then you need to butt out of conversations dealing with the BS of the USA, because, well, you left. Love it or leave it, but if you leave it, don't criticize it, seeing as how it ain't your problem anymore.
Well the fact is that I still have to pay taxes to the U.S.A. Also both of my parents are in their mid 70's and as the only single child with no other responsibilities... when and if the time comes that they need care I will return for as long as they need me. I have 30 years of social security that I have paid into the system and I'm tired of seeing it being given to people who aren't required to pay those same taxes. So I do see it as being my problem and it definitely has an effect on me and my future.
What I can't understand is why people post a thread asking for opinions and when it is a different opinion then the one they have, they have a need to attack not only the opinion but the person as well. I see the ideal of freedom of speech is alive and well.
I can't think of anywhere in this world I wouldn't go to, I love travel... experiencing new cultures, foods, architecture, art... it is amazing. I've been to 23 countries and can't wait to experience the rest of the world!!!! I'm also a diver and have had the joy of diving in numerous countries, the best diving I've done was in Papua New Guinea, virgin untouched reefs, WW2 wrecks, lots of Sharks... spectacular!
Breezy, I understand the Italy thing, one of my favorite places in the world is Sienna, Italy!!!
How well traveled are you really?
