RE: Oliver Twist

Dickens is an amazing writer, but if you go on to read more of his work I think you will find that his use of characters is the same in most of his work. Clearly defined used to portray a very set idea more so than a living breathing person... Great Expectations demonstrates this extremely well.

RE: Who was your first love?

Thanks Claire, you know I hadn't thought about that in years and I really had to laugh, at the time we thought we were so deep and emotional but the reality is we were incredibly shallow.

After I had my daughter something triggered in my body and I continued to gain weight after the pregnancy, regardless of exercise or diet and my older brother said something to me that some of my friends didn't like but which I found to be a complement. He said that it was a good thing that I had gained weight because I actually had to develop a personality and if I lost the weight and kept the personality then I would be the whole package.

I went on to have a hysterectomy when I was 35 which triggered another change in my body and since then I have been slowly losing weight, the package still has a bit to much "wrapping" but I have to admit that I'm much happier with whats inside.

Should America take a lead from Australia?

quote=crazedangel89]... as well as having christian schools (private schools) and wiccan schools people throw a fit over it. that is having a wiccan school. and that goes for any religion out side of any one god religion. just some things ive noticed.

Well I guess that's where California is a bit different then most other states. Wiccan was just fine with everybody and there was a Jewish Club, and several other cultural clubs as well as a course that taught the bible strictly as literature and not religion. That was 30 years ago, haven't the rest of you caught up yet??[

Should America take a lead from Australia?

Hey, I didn't say whether or not I agreed with it... I just posted it and asked for opinions...

Saying that, I chose to leave the states and make my home in Spain, I feel it is my responsibility to learn the language and embrace the differences. When I think of the amount of money spent in the U.S. for translation and printing of all legal docs, ta forms, etc. ... no other country does this. I do believe that if you choose to live in a different country then the one you were raised in, you are the one who must accommodate, the least you can do is learn the language or deal with the fact that you need help from friends to translate (as I do 'cause my Spanish is still crap) but at least I'm trying and not whining!

Should America take a lead from Australia?

Australian Prime Minister recently made these statements. What are your thoughts? Should America take a similar stance?

Muslims who want to live under Islamic Sharia law were told on Wednesday to get out of Australia , as the government targeted radicals in a bid to head off potential terror attacks.

Separately, Howard angered some Australian Muslims on Wednesday by saying he supported spy agencies monitoring the nation's mosques. Quote: 'IMMIGRANTS, NOT AUSTRALIANS, MUST ADAPT. Take It Or Leave It. I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Bali , we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Australians.'

'This culture has been devel oped over two centuries of struggles, trials and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom'

'We speak mainly ENGLISH, not Spanish, Lebanese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society . Learn the language!'

'Most Australians believe in God. This is not some Christian, right wing, political push, but a fact, because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If Go d offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture.'

'We will accept your beliefs, and will not question why. All we ask is that you accept ours, and live in harmony and peaceful enjoyment with us.'

'This is OUR COUNTRY, OUR LAND, and OUR LIFESTYLE, and we will allow you every opportunity to enjoy all this. But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about Our Flag, Our Pledge, Our Christian beliefs, or Our Way of Life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other great Australian freedom,

'THE RIGHT TO LEAVE'.'

'If y ou aren't happy here then LEAVE. We didn't force you to come here. You asked to be here. So accept the country YOU accepted.'

RE: Whats your plans for Valentines?

I have an annual Unvalentines day party for couples and singles but if you come as a couple you are not allowed to touch each other all night. No one is allowed to wear red or pink or anything with hearts on it or it will be removed... last year we removed a pair of red undies from a gentleman, I think he wore them on purposelaugh The flowers I decorate with are wild flowers and daisys and we all manage to have a great evening.

RE: Questions for seasoned travellers.

Isn't that a bit like bringing sand to the beach?laugh

RE: Favorites

Hi I'm Jacquie from the lovely little island Ibiza... some of my favorite things are...

Sitting around a campfire with a good glass of wine and a strong pair of arms around me as I gaze up into a star filled night.

My daughters beautiful smile that lights up her face and my heart

Having my back tickled

Dolly Parton's version of "Stairway to Heaven" (and the original too)

A fresh boiled Maine lobster with a pot of melted butter eaten with my fingers.

Dark silky chocolate with a deep red wine

The laughter and affection I share with my friends

happy place now I'm in my happy place... thankslips

RE: Friend from past calls (any help would be great)

Don't use your son as an excuse to stay in a bad situation, the way the courts are today you won't loose your son, in fact if you can show that you are the more stable parent you may even get physical custody. Children learn about relationships by observing their parents, what are you and your wife teaching your son? Even if you think he doesn't know... he does, or he at least sees the lack of respect and affection you have for each other. This is a very unhealthy way to raise a child, shame on your wife for her past behavior and shame on you if you try to justify doing the same thing.

RE: i'm thinking of taking up dancing lessons !....... i bet none of you on connectingsingles can dance

Tell you what guys, if you can dance... the ladies will be lined up to get a turn with you. I had a good platonic male friend who was a fantastic dancer and after one dance together he had the ladies coming up and asking if he would dance with them.

RE: Friend from past calls (any help would be great)

The first thing you need to do is decide if your marrige can be saved, at this point it doesn't sound like it. You need to end the situation you are in before you start anything else. Cheating is wrong no matter what is going on... if the situation is bad enough that you feel you can justify it then you should be ending the relationship.

RE: Questions for seasoned travellers.

Hi Jan, Have you looked into backpacks? I spent 3 years traveling and found it to be the easiest way. The really good ones will cost around 200 euros but are worth it. Mine had access from the top, sides and bottom so by packing in layers I could easily access whatever I needed without having to go through the whole thing. It was especially good when traveling through rail stations in Europe that had lots of stairs, so much easier and lighter on your back then trying to drag a case up stairs. The lighter they are the more ecpensive they run, but again worth it because they are much lighter then suitcases and alot more durable. My poor backpack was slung on the top of chicken buses in Central America, and has endured over 40 flights without any noticable damage.

RE: DATING!!!

Again...there is a big difference between looks and attraction, I have been attracted to a lot of men who other women wouldn't find particularly good looking. The attraction has to happen before you will ever find out the personality.

RE: I need advise

yes..."good" has so many possibilities...devil

RE: I need advise

By the way... have I told you how much I love your picture. I can tell by the way your eyes gaze at me that we were meant to be together for all time. The words you use in your profile speak directly to my heart and I feel as if I have known you forever...

Please send a plane ticket and within a few hours I will be winging my way to your side to make all your fantasies a reality!heart wings lips

RE: greatest singing duets

yeah, most of my friends can tell you band, song name, album, etc. I'm useless, just know if I like it!

RE: greatest singing duets

I know what you mean, I have everything from The Who, The Band, Aerosmith... to Tom Jones, Abba, and a crazy compilation of old italian love songs... as well as techno and Ibiza chill.

RE: greatest singing duets

Yeahcheering so happy to know I'm not the only one that isn't "cool" when it comes to music!

RE: But they just wanted a better life.

As did my family in 1965 from Scotland.

RE: But they just wanted a better life.

I thought the crime was the fact that they were "illegal Immigants" As far as other crimes go I would think that crime rates would be lower because they face getting kicked out of the country if they are caught.

RE: greatest singing duets

Simon and Garfunkel, I know it's cheesy but I still get goose bumps when I hear "Bridge over Troubled Water"

RE: But they just wanted a better life.

My only problem with illegal immagrants is that they do not pay into the ta system but are able to benefit from it with free health care, welfare, etc. It is a fact that these workers are necessary because they are willing to do the jobs that many feel are beneath them. Soooo give them a green card, get them in the system and I see no problem!

RE: Who was your first love?

Ohhhh this makes me laugh, how my values have changed!!! I was 17 and just starting my senior year in high school... I saw this incredible looking guy walking across the campus... I found out his name, where his classes were and just "happened" to keep running into him, he finally got the hint and asked me out.

We were such an incredibly conceited couplerolling on the floor laughing so concerned with our appearance, practicing dance moves, coordinating our wardrobes... We were voted senior class couple of the year, we always looked good, we were romantic and so into the whole thing. We agreed to wait until graduation night for me to lose my virginity, so it was 9 months of teasing and playing... what I put that poor boy throughblushing

On graduation night we got engaged and had se for the first time. We thought our futures were settled...my parents loved him, his loved me, we were the heart of the social scene in the little town we lived in. Three months later, I remember looking across the table at him and realizing that if I married him I would never see the outside of this town again. I ended the relationship and took a job that entailed traveling allover the states for 11 months of the year.

RE: I need advise

hug

RE: State of the Union Address

Unable to watch the man! I wind up with severe pain in my hands as everytime I see that ignorant smirk I have the desire to slap it off!

RE: Girls: Beards or Clean Shaven?

On the whole I prefer the clean shaved look, but if a man has a weak chin then a nice well trimmed beard can do a lot for his appearance.

RE: what stage in life are you at now ?

Well I had my daughter at 22 years old, so I had to take a break from being a wild child and become a grown up for 18 years. After she was settled and secure in her life I picked up again at being 22 and a bit of a wild child, spent three years backpacking around the world and had some amazing ecperiences! Then I moved to Ibiza and got into the party club lifestyle for a while and now...

Ready to settle down with a partner who still knows how to play and have fun together.

RE: I need advise

I am always very wary of anyone who starts out with "the usual gushing romantic stuff" I hate anyone coming off as romantic before they know me, it seems so insincere and how many other women has he said the same thing to.

I stick to men who are interested in getting to know who I am and in sharing who they are. A good conversation discussing things that you are interested in, talking about family, what you have accomplished in your life, what your goals are.

Someone who takes the time to get to know you and wants you to know him is a much better candidate for something long term, the romantic guys are just players and I don't give them the time of day.

Hope thats helpful and good luck!wine
