RE: Officer Kim Potter Made A Mistake.......A Very Bad Mistake

Update on Kim Potter: Sentenced to TWO years only— family is outraged. She’ll likely be released sooner, for time already served. I admit I’m a little surprised. However, a BART officer killed a black man at the Fruitvale (?) station, and only received two years…it appears the rulings are based on intention, not outcome. But if someone breaks the law, trespasses, and is injured or dies in your swimming pool, you’re liable. America needs to re-shuffle the deck and deal out a fairer game for all. Just saying..

RE: Can you think about the future without being sad? Where will you be in 12 years?

Awhile ago there was a program about manned space travel to Mars. It was (possibly still yet) being considered as a “one-way only”, with a system aboard for the setting up of a lifetime (for the individuals involved) habitat. It’s entirely possible, so said the program, and get this— no shortage of educated, capable professionals from every field volunteering.*

*One NASA program in existence requires astronauts to also be MD’s with a first discipline in psychiatry, fluent in four languages, the epitome of perfect health…among other skill levels.

So, I’m wondering if other members see this: sometimes a post is just redundant, or it seems like the answer is so general or obvious it’s surprising it was put out there. I get it that we’re all different, and see the world in multiple ways, but seriously, it’s like saying, “Please vote if you believe water is wet”. laugh

RE: Some people just need to be locked up for life. (Forever)

I’ve been interested in the Leslie Van Houten (“The Tate-LoBianca” ‘Helter-Skelter’ murders) story for a long time. I was ten when this happened. Although she has been eligible for parole multiple times, and three times approved by the board, her release has been firmly denied by every California Governor involved. Except for a one-year release in 1970 (some kerfuffle in legal mumbo-jumbo..) she has been incarcerated for over 50 years. Part of me feels some level of pity, and she actually has some staunch supporters, believe it or not, I fully agree with the denials. Some things you don’t get a break on (her involvement in the killings was exponentially grisly…) and the original sentence WAS gas chamber, but commuted to life. Prosecutors and police promised the American public that she, and others, would never again taste freedom. I support their on-going promise. Bravo Brown, Brown, and Newsom. (Hope I got those right)

*I make my own cards. I tend to like little cottages, retro humor, rustic wooded paths, waterfalls, to name a few.

RE: Should Andrew relinquish his right to the British throne & be King of a United Ireland ?

I’m just wondering— because one can’t really trust what “the news medias” may say— what do the people most affected (by Mr. Windsor) think and feel, overall/majority- that is, the citizens, patrons and wards of The United Kingdom? As far as I can tell, Americans are tending to want SOME accountability/punishment, while a percentage is arbitrary. How about it, UK? Sympathetic? Vituperative? Non-chalant? Thanx for input…

RE: How do you handle it?

You remind me of a chapter from a medieval play: ( goes something like this:)

“Whence cometh thee, and to what purpose”?
“I am but a mendicant friar, here to rescue these nincompoops from their own folly”

RE: How do you handle it?

Not quite sure just exactly what you’re asking- but here are some “efficiency” solutions: Have a copy of every key you own, and keep it as a set. Put it where you will NEVER forget (be creative..) Guys—keep a spare car key AND house key IN YOUR WALLET. (You always have your wallet on you…) At the gym— have a combination lock. If you’re not good at remembering #’s, have them hemmed small, on a patch, and firmly sewn on the inside of your sweat pants, sweat shirt/top, or swim trunks. OR, the inside of your cross-trainer shoe. Think creatively. Keep all the items in your home that you use most AT EYE LEVEL. This goes for dishes, grocery items, bathroom items…If you don’t have a garage or carport, get a cover for your car. They’re about a hundred dollars, and double the life/durability of your car. Buy second hand++it’s frequently BETTER. Don’t worry about what the other guy thinks-he’s NOT paying your way! Save money, live simply. Go out twice a week, not daily. Pubs are wonderful, but a bad money drain. BTW, I’m not talking out-of-school. All these efficiency hints are things I do, and it’s working.
