There are so many variables that it would be nearly impossible to conjecture exactly how a round came to explode in the lower levels.
It doesn't even really matter. What matters is that the Palestinian people who have no artillery, planes, tanks, guided missiles, lasers, etc etc etc etc etc are being slaughtered in their own homes by one of the worlds most advanced military powers.
I am reminded of a quote from the War of the Worlds that went something like this.
"This isn't a war. We can't make war against these machines any more than maggots can make war against mankind. This is an extermination."
That's assuming that the government and the army's policies truly reflects the will of the people. Which is almost never the case in today's world.
Israeli politics are dominated by powerful rightwing blocks that rule despite the fact that most people in Israel don't like them or agree with their policies.
Much like what has been going on in American politics for the last few elections.
Elections can be stolen in a lot of ways. And a corrupt ruling regime can stay in power as long as it wants to once it is in place, unless an extremely popular movement rises against it.
When I was 18 I was with my girlfriend and several friends at my girlfriend's best friend Mary's house. Mary's mom wasn't home so we had the house to ourselves.
We were all at the dining room table where someone was rolling a sort of little cigarette (our first of the day so that wasn't really a factor).
Something caught my eye and I turned my head towards the hallway and saw a thin middle-aged man standing there glowering back at me.
I nearly fell out of my chair with surprise. The others asked me what had surprised me so, and I explained.
Mary asked what the man looked like and I explained: thin, short, swarthy complexion but grey and sickly looking, military haircut, horn-rimmed glasses, wearing pajamas....
Mary said, "oh yeah that's my stepdad's ghost, several people have seen him."
She then went to get a photo of her stepdad and it was the same man I had seen. He had died in that house about 5 years before.
The International Committee of the Red Cross called on Israel to allow it immediate access to Gaza, saying a trip into Gaza City revealed weak children laying with their dead mothers and other "shocking" scenes.
Red Cross workers and four ambulances from the Palestine Red Crescent Society managed to enter the Zaytun neighborhood of Gaza City on Wednesday, ... The crew found four children, too weak to stand, next to their dead mothers in a house containing 12 corpses, the statement says.
Other houses revealed more wounded and three more corpses, the release said. Israeli soldiers posted near the houses ordered the rescue team to leave the area -- an order the team refused.
"This is a shocking incident," said Pierre Wettach, the ICRC's chief official for Israel and the Palestinian territories. "The Israeli military must have been aware of the situation but did not assist the wounded. Neither did they make it possible for us or the Palestine Red Crescent to assist the wounded."
But then I guess the Red Cross is just antisemitic like everyone else who criticizes the Israeli Reich.
Massacre after massacre, and the Palestinians are continually crowded into smaller and smaller areas, continually bombarded, continually harassed and continually killed.
Sure there's a peace movement in Israel. A pretty big one. But it's not big enough, because there is no peace.
There was a big peace movement in the states way in the 60s too. But the Vietnam war went on and on for years.
Governments don't care about peace movements unless they are big enough to topple the government.
Nor does the "silent majority" care about the peace movement. They only care about their own interests.
When the day of reckoning comes, and it will come, the fact that there was a peace movement won't serve as a very good excuse.
Way back in the early 70s when I was in my twenties and it was still the epoch of free-love and I didn't have any kids yet, my live-in girlfriend and I thought that we were "mature enough" to be able to date others without anyone getting hurt. We were open about it and there were no secrets for anyone involved.
But it tore our relationship (and our hearts) apart and we both vowed "never again".
My advice would be to either work to preserve your present relationship or end it.
Get real!!! The Palestinians don't have Katyusha rockets. Hezbollah does, but they are nowhere near Gaza.
What Israel funnels to Hamas so they can shoot them harmlessly back into Israeli occupied territory are much much smaller, and much much less destructive than Katyusha rockets. And they have absolutely no guidance system whatsoever. They are essentially just oversized bottle rockets.
There is no way in the world that katyusha rockets could be smuggled through the innumerable checkpoints surrounding Gaza.
When it comes down to it, it's ethnic cleansing on the part of Israel. By means of their invasions, massacres, and forced deplacement of the Palestinians into ever more untolerable conditions they are gobbling up all of Palestine.
You seem to be talking about Baruch Goldstein's massacre of people worshipping in a mosque.
That massacre wasn't at the Dome of the Rock. It took place in a mosque at the Cave of the Patriachs in the West Bank city of Hebron. (occupied Palestine).
However there was indeed another massacre at the Dome of the Rock carried out by the Israeli Army after an extremist group (including Ariel Sharon) tried to lay a foundation stone for a new Temple in the courtyard of the dome. A crowd of unarmed Arabs tried to peacefully block the extremists from entering the mosque compound and the army retaliated with gunfire. I think there were about 20 dead in that massacre.
It's easy to get all the massacres confused. There are so many, and they resemble each other so much.
