The Isolation Blog

A place for those of us in lockdown (currently Spain but coming to a place near you soon) to share what's happening or indeed what's not happening, have a winge, report on what's happening "outside" etc. It could also be used for updating who has supplies of toilet rolls in stock professor laugh

germanspitz, rest assured the rules here are draconian, there isn't anything else they can do so the risk of catching it now is low, one is now likely to die of boredom laugh
Hi Z.

My friends work in Gib at Dr.Giraldi's a home for disabled people with learning difficulties so I don't envy her crossing back and forth. It's getting bad here now as Butlins closes it's doors along with other places.

I'm sat here waiting for Cherie to come home. Can't wait as she'll keep me busy and amused for the next 6 weeks all at the same timelaugh
germanspitz, as I gather it they've stopped a lot of the border traffic so it should be quieter crossing over now, and the keeping a distance from people is being strictly enforced.
Let us know when she's home dancing dog
Cherie back home a bit frightened but ate her dinner and now asleep next to me. So pleased to see her: cheering: Has to stay off the leg so only outside for a wee then back to bed rest. Another £1000 bill, thank goodness for insurance. Every little helps as they say. Take care and thanks for you continued support.grin
Good news GS I also have an elderly dog and worry about her - the short walks required by the lockdown suit her fairly well although I'm taking her out more often (to avoid stircrazy) and she gets a little weary about it.
We're on Day 4 of no pre-school for the 5 yr old. Trying to keep her busy is more tiring than taking care of the 2 yr old. I've made her work booklets to do everyday. Number, letters, words, days of the week, months of the year and simple math problems. We also have a designated reading time - generally while the 2 yr old naps. I really don't want them sitting around watching TV all day. When my son and his wife get home, they usually take them out in the yard for a bit to get some air. Her school is supposedly setting something up online but we'll see what happens. She's in pre-school, so I'm not that concerned about it but it will give her something else to do.

Supply wise, we're doing fine. They bring home a little something every day. We have a stocked cupboard with canned and packaged goods as well as much stuff in the freezer. I would like to see more fresh fruits and vegetables and that's what they're looking for today. I think they were more concerned with non-perishable stuff first. I asked for a couple of lemons and sour cream - the girls and I can bake a lemon pound cake tomorrow.
All in all, concerned but not panicked.
Breaking Big Brother wants you to be safe. Sky News understands the Government has asked mobile network O2 to hand over anonymous mobile phone location data in order to ensure people are following social distancing guidelines during the COVID-19 outbreak
Thanks so much Vivian for you kind thoughts. I rescued a little dog in Spain when I lived there .She was 2 weeks old and on a market stall. Hand reared her with my Persian cats ,bought her back to the UK when I finally moved home and lost her to diabetes at over 12 years of age. I rescued Cherie just over 4 years ago and she's a little treasure. We can support each other at home while we pass through the doom and gloom that threatens to envelop us.

Stay safe hug
Mark my phone network text to say they are giving me more time grin because of all this I am just pay monthly on a bundle with a card, so bundle been increased at no extra fee.peace peace wonderful things are happening
germanspitz, great news and I expect she's as relieved as you are thumbs up
kpthatsme, you got me there, just trying weigh up which is best, being kept in isolation from everybody or looking after a 5 year old..... ok decided I'll go for isolation laugh much as the other would be rewarding I'm glad it's you doing it thumbs up
Mark, I'm just wondering what anonymous data will do for them, other than produce a warehouse full of data, maybe not the whole story dunno
Friends of mine were saying a couple of months back that they had a conversation in their living room about two things they hadn't talked of in years, the next time they went on the net there were ads for both things, the only thing in the room was a mobile phone, we're not big on Google snooping devices here so it can't have been Alexa I believe it's called.
Red, beware of phone companies bearing gift laugh
Palm, firstly no life is insignificant, yours is just as valuable to the next man/woman, secondly if these companies can work out a way of making a buck from you they will, and lastly having read a few comments on CS you must surely realise how much better off you are to some, you've mastered art for one thing whilst others haven't as yet got to grips with punctuation rolling on the floor laughing
Z, i am insignificant so i am safe. i cruel joke really
Palm, oh yes I go for that, keep your head down and don't get noticed, why I bought a dark blue car and after driving like a lunatic for 50 years have never had a speeding ticket laugh
Red Mobile phone Co. Don't think that gps would be that accurate to tell how close you could be standing to another person.I call BS on that.peace
as for the mobile phone. if i have my phone with me on the sofa, next to the wall, it's within the 6 ft of the possible neighbor's phone. i live in a townhome. funnily, my phone is in the car. i forgot it last night
Z man I can only think this spy tech has a way to hear, look at you. I use voice control and do allow for testing logs. I have a tracker for my bike and is hooked up thru my cell. It works If the bike moves 3 feet it will alert me within 20 seconds. Also follows my bike rides full data of my route. When the device was sitting on the table charged up and activated vibrations will mike it beep. Good theft device Boomerang gps. Works laugh
Mark, therein lies the trade off, they give you useful stuff, but as they say there's no such thing as a free lunch, you'll pay for it one way or another, personally I hate the bloody things but it's tough to live without one, especially where I am with no land lines.
Z, as you know I am not of a paranoid nature, but there is no way I would allow Alexa or any of her cousins into my house.
She only listens when you say her name? bollix to that.
Molly, we must be a paranoid lot down here as I don't know anyone who has one laugh Certainly in my house I connect to the net, not the tv, the fridge, some listening device etc uh oh
I don't need a computer to tell me when I'm running out of milk in the fridge either roll eyes
How lazy are people getting.
Molly, it's this data driven society, as I said to mark they give/sell us stuff that looks cool in order to gain data, but at least with the right browser and operating system you can fight back to certain extent banana
Apart from my mobile, which I need to keep in touch with people, anything else 'smarter' than me is banned from the house laugh
Molly, there's an obvious reply to that but I'm keeping quiet rolling on the floor laughing
Shuddup Z mumbling

The good news is, you're invited tongue
Afternoon Z and molly .

Agree with you regards Alexa. Talks a load of b------s and tells lies too!
Molly, thanks laugh
germanspitz, wave How's the patient today.
Simple logic would dictate that if Alexa is listening for its name, it can listen to everything within a certain distance.
Riz, that's logical, sounds like those using it should also download a packet sniffer to keep an eye on what's leaving their house.
rolling on the floor laughing seen the vid before but not with the names on it, love it
Lockdown rules here seem to be changing several times a day as they iron out things they missed when setting the rules. Problem is they're becoming ever more confusing, for example today garages are allowed to continue working on cars to keep them roadworthy, but are not allowed to open the doors to the public, you also can't wait for car to be repaired and have to return home, doesn't say how you can do that without breaking the rules, car spares shops are allowed to operate but not to the public, doors to remain shut, so at present you can buy petrol but not oil or anything else for your car, so if I get a puncture I can take my car to the garage, they can't open the door to talk to me and I must walk home (approx 15 km) and then somehow get back to the garage to collect my car but can't pay them as the doors will be shut confused
Z. The best solution is not to use that kind of device at all, after spending 30plus years in IT, I don't trust any phone or device that has listening capabilities. Now I only use Apple products or those with Linux, as these have the best security. Even then you still need to take precautions.
Z - snap wow
germanspitz, Scooby can detect pills in his food from 10 paces sigh but he's very good if I stick them in a bit of meat and hand feed them, I even have some fingers left.... sometimes laugh
V, yes not surprised it's a home made adaption, I expect we'll be seeing more of that as people get more bored laugh
Riz, I'd love to put my phone onto Linux but they can't be bothered to make a touch screen version as you know, and as I hate the bloody things anyway I'm not forking out silly sums for Apple kit, the laptop has had Linux for years.
