The Isolation Blog

A place for those of us in lockdown (currently Spain but coming to a place near you soon) to share what's happening or indeed what's not happening, have a winge, report on what's happening "outside" etc. It could also be used for updating who has supplies of toilet rolls in stock professor laugh

BN, sounds like you're overdoing it, try and get more sleep, watching Spanish TV should help with that professor

Red, you haven't seen Spanish TV, endless cheap talk and gameshows, interspersed with very old and dubbed American films, and ad breaks long enough to redecorate the house laugh

Red, paint brushes would take forever, I normally spray it laugh
Hi all, Having to self isolate due to my considerable age lol Dog at the vet hospital today and I'm waiting a reply from Surgeon so I've lost my House sitter. Hopefully she will be ok and come home soon. Tried to do an online shop as a delivery saver customer at Tesco's . Guess what no delivery dates available. Managed to book ahead from the 28th. March for the next 3 weeks fortunately. Might have to revert back to the war days and cut up newspapers ,thread with string and make do in the loo.

Hope everyone else is coping in these dire days.hug
germanspitz, last thing you need at the moment is a problem with your dog, I'm a little concerned for mine as he's getting on a bit and on borrowed time for a dog his size, but seems fine at the moment, it's odd but he's sensed something is wrong and is spending more time indoors with me, I must be easier to read than I thought as I don't think he's been reading the papers laugh
Man in Spain sent home whilst walking his dog, the incident occurred when the police noticed said dog was in fact stuffed rolling on the floor laughing
Buenos tardes Z

Dogs have a 6th sense and can pick up on us humans and anxiety. My vets are brill collecting and delivering her. I think she's in overnight and I miss her terribly. We are best buddies as she's a rescue dog and absolutely dotes on me. I just get stressed without her which does me no favours under the circumstances.
Hope your big guy is ok. Take care hug
zmount.....that's one smart dog you have there, can he read in English or just Spanish?
germanspitz, I hate when they have to stay overnight, hope all's well tomorrow wine
snowlynx, not as simple as that, he was a rescue dog and about 2 to 3 years old when I got him, so now I think he's bi-lingual, or more specifically multi-lingual, he certainly reads German, try driving up here with German number plates and he goes into hyper drive laugh Spanish plated cars he ignores.
Any chance the prize for 200th comment is remission of sentence

Hi Z

Just had a call from the surgeon. They were unable to do an examination today as she was in too much pain, so tomorrow she goes under anaesthetic and if they find anything untoward they will operate again. so she's in until Thursday now. I miss my best friend so much . Thanks for your concern.wave
Z-MAN thank you for the “heads up” on your new diet. I was wondering why Mimi keeps feeding me hard cheese in every meal. I’ve been bound up for more than 3 days so she no longer has to hoard or hide the toilet paper. She sees herself as being pro-active. help help help
Redex applause

So many rumours, and scaremongering by the worlds media, all it does is spread panic. The world should follow China, ban all references to Covid-19, only official government sources allowed.
This whole situation has got completely out of control.
Rizalred.

Well you just carry on looking after No.1 and the rest of us will just plod along.. What came from China should have bloody stayed there. Just saying.frustrated
Well it didn't because Trump instigated a panic and withdrew all Americans back to the USA, other countries followed suit. Had he not panicked himself, China would have contained the virus.
But no good crying over spilt milk, it's worldwide now, and should be treated with contempt, washing hands and keeping away from people is a better way to fight it, Lockdowns, like they have in Spain, is going to do nothing that soap and water can't achieve. Closing businesses etc will create an economic crisis unheard of in modern history.
How many people died from the common flu in 2018/2019? A heck of a lot more than this virus will kill, but last year there was no panicking, no businesses closed and the world survived just fine.
So how can we transpose The Handmaid's Tale into the current scenario - Stir Pandemic, Religious bigotry, Anti-feminism, Sinophobia, Donald Trump, Fundamentalism into the pot and what have we got

Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn and caldron bubble.
Fillet of a fenny snake,
In the caldron boil and bake;
Eye of newt and toe of frog,
Wool of bat and tongue of dog,
Adder's fork and blind-worm's sting,
Lizard's leg and howlet's wing,
For a charm of powerful trouble,
Like a hell-broth boil and bubble.

M4, seems a bit odd to welcome you to a state of emergency but welcome you are wine
Merc, check out the tasty recipes using toilet roll, they'll not only fill you up on the way in but wipe your bum for you on the way out uh oh laugh
Palm, I rather get the impression from previous comments that your 8 rolls is a days supply for some, but like you that would last me quite a while, I'm also hoping there won't be any problems with dog food supply, I'll be finding out later today when I go in.
Was sorry to hear about your job, have you heard anything yet from the government, I understand they plan on giving you all $1k a month dunno
Riz, I'm quite shocked by your comment on two fronts, firstly that you think the solution to this problem is to follow China and ban freedom of speech wow And secondly after having said comments about the virus should be banned you then posted another comment with your person view that virtually all governments across the world are wrong and that the current crisis can be solved by washing your hands and keeping a distance from people wow You and a few others on here are comparing this virus to common flu, this is nothing like an outbreak of flu, which yes can be bloody awful but nothing compared to this, as an example, and I'll be posting some facts and figures available today below, in one nursing home in Madrid as of yesterday 19 residents had died and more expected to die, that's just one nursing home, when did flu ever do that in such a short space of time.
Merc, laugh thumbs up
I can't lie laugh
Z, I'm not deriding the danger of covid-19, but to force businesses to close is crazy in my opinion. Your example of the nursing home just shows that previous inoculation against flu was very effective, sadly this new strain does not have such an easy way to stop it. I have no doubt one will be found and then issued worldwide.
The point I was trying to make is that the media has blown this up way beyond the point of no return, had they remained calm, just published clear details of ways to prevent contamination, I believe the world would have coped far better than it is doing now.
People in China are following government guidelines, the virus is abating, in the city where I worked there was 20 new suspected patients a day, yesterday there was 1, today, so far, zero. No one knows if this is due to government control or because the weather is warming up, time will tell.
if it originated in China why is Italy so hard hit? just wondering.
