The Isolation Blog

A place for those of us in lockdown (currently Spain but coming to a place near you soon) to share what's happening or indeed what's not happening, have a winge, report on what's happening "outside" etc. It could also be used for updating who has supplies of toilet rolls in stock professor laugh

KP, don't know how the government managed to do it, but as we enter week 4 of lockdown it's been that long since we've seen any real sunshine, the weather here is similar to California and that just doesn't happen uh oh but anyway the last thing on anyone's mind here is an ice maker laugh
V, if anyone eyes you up in hungry looking way remember all you need do is cough profusely and they'll give you a wide berth professor laugh
Chancer, should be pretty safe here, I was in the supermarket yesterday and didn't see any Chianti or fava beans......... but then I wasn't really looking uh oh laugh
Hey if anyone looks at me hungrily I'll give them the benefit of the doubt laugh
V wow if that's the case make sure you carry a thermometer with you at all times, as Baden Powell said to his scouts " Be Prepared" laugh
Z jokes aside the thermometer is a bloody issue. I date back to the old manual ones - shake 'em down, ready to work. Now all I have is a super-sleek modern battery-powered one but one small problem, the battery is almost depleted and although I searched on Wednesday for the right-size teeny-tiny one - none on the shelves. Other battery sizes, none of the tiny flat ones.

frustrated
V, that may be something the pharmacy might carry as I expect they all use batteries these day dunno but the list of what the government calls essential items is really very short and only includes things the PM and the cabinet might want, therefore the shelves are filled with champagne and caviar but stuff to repair your house forget it doh
I am relying on feeling hot to know if I have a fever or not.
No batteries required laugh
I'm a little concerned today that we're suffering a news blackout dunno yesterday afternoon marked the start of Easter weekend, pictures of traffic jams on the motorways of Madrid, despite it being illegal to leave your house for anything but food supplies or medical emergencies, we know that a lot of towns and villages have sealed off their access roads to stop holiday makers using holiday homes, which again is illegal, so in the papers today nothing uh oh not a word about where thousands of cars went and what the police did about it .............
But Molly you are gifted beyond the average. tip hat
Z, they should have sealed off Madrid instead of smaller towns trying to do it when the cars are already on the road.
Viv, I don't consider not having a thermometer that gifted laugh
Molly, we know from reports that if you get sick here and call the phone number the first thing they'll ask is what's your temperature, if you don't know they basically hang up on you, people without thermometers have died at home, they also insist on speaking to the patient themselves, in Spanish, so if you're unconscious tough, a relative is not allowed to speak for you or translate for you, it's a good way of keeping the numbers down in the news and makes it look like the government have it under control, I've lost count of number of times the PM has announced we've past the peak only to be shot down by numbers the next day, he's been doing it for weeks mumbling
I was on the A44 on Tuesday, not a single other car heading toward Granada, and saw only a police car and a truck in the other direction. Was on the access-to-coast road yesterday around 5 pm heading toward the A44 and around a dozen police busying themelves very much with 2 cars - mine on my side of the road and the other car heading towards the coast. No other cars in sight on that stretch.

I'm not saying there wasn't a rush of cars but I do wonder if the pics of the crammed motorway were in fact current ones? confused
Z, always say 38.2c
Molly, I'm sure you've been to Madrid dunno there are probably a thousand roads out of it as with any big city, that would be a very labour intensive move to close all of them, and would mean there were no police left to make sure you aren't walking your dog 101 mtrs instead of the 100 dictated, basically every police force, and each area has 3 of those plus the army, is now making rules up as they go along, local mayors who have there own local police force have a thought in bed and that becomes law in their town the next day, I've never seen so many Hiltlers in one place at the same time, private rentacops think of themselves as somewhere between super hero and god doh
V, the pics were taken around the time you were out, arrival here of those cars would be around 4 hours later if they stuck to speed limits.
Yeah Z, I've been there several times. It is a nightmare.
I've never liked the manner of the cops in Spain. Especially the green ones. They like power too much, and are now been given too much.
Ours have extra powers at the moment, but just for the 5 days over the Bank Holiday weekend. That is to stop people travelling to holiday homes. That is the right thing to do. They don't tend to go power-mad though. They are not encouraged to do so by the government either.
Molly, at times like this one wonders if Franco's death was a cover story confused
Jig, if nothing else comes from this whole virus saga it'll be people having second thoughts on where to visit in future, from what I've seen few governments will come out of it shining, but some way less than others beer
KP, without a shred of evidence my gut tells me that this virus like many before it will hate warm weather, if you look at numbers for countries having hot weather it's struggling to gain traction, so whilst you may suffer from more crime imo you may also suffer from less cases when it warms up dunno
Z, the green boys are certainly a throwback. They should have been disbanded back then.

Also, the fact the discussion about the civil war is still avoided there, means that people have not got closure from it. So those feelings still remain.
Molly, I completely agree, there is no place in the modern world for a military police force imo, however the right wing party here is gaining traction , but on the face of it the socialist government we have at the moment is more totalitarian than the right wing confused
They need to start voting for more centre parties so.
Anything too far right or left is good. Ever.
Yeah the boys...
Molly, whilst on the face of it that would seem the obvious solution, my experience of center parties is that they really don't have any policies at all, they flip flop at the change in the wind direction and whilst the left is supposed to be looking after the people and the right businesses, the middle do neither, result business stagnates, tax revenue drops and there's no money to look after the people.
Passing by to say hi teddybear
Merc wave are you keeping well dunno
Hi Z

Ongoing problems I'm afraid due to poor circulation. Just very painful this time, but nothing I can't handle. …. I used to love the parades in Spain especially San Juan night though my dog hated all the fireworks bless her. My German Spitz isn't at all bothered thank goodness.

I did hear on the news that the EU will be financially supporting those countries that have been badly hit by Covid 19 dunno

Frankly under the circumstances I can't see the UK forging ahead with Brexit after the bashing we've all suffered. Bet that will go on the back burner.

Hope things have settled down a bit for you over there and life is less stressful with regards movement. Hope your old pal is well.

wave
GS, I wouldn't be so sure Brexit will go on the back burner, as you say the EU is going some way to helping poorer countries with the costs, if Brexit is delayed guess who'll be paying for that EU help, certainly not the EU, they'll be calling on you to foot the bill doh very mad
Yes Z haven't been well..Not a case of not seeing how you all are wave
GS, but as you say Corbyn has gone now, it was only him peddling the NHS being sold to the US story, as both Boris and Trump have made statements denying that claim I don't see it as something to be concerned with now confused
Hope the leg is on the mend dunno
Merc, take care, don't overdo it on your return from that comfort
I do look like The Rocky Horror Show at the mo but don't worry you can't catch it from melaugh
Merc, if you have spare hair going there is a vacancy on my head professor but I never did have short curly hair uh oh rolling on the floor laughing
Plenty of hair that hasn't been combed or washed for 8 days uh oh

Will attempt my hair hopefully Monday professor laugh
Merc, I have a jet wash you can borrow if you need it dunno laugh
I will need that and more..My hair is down to my knee's..laugh
I have no clue what is happening in the real world where I live at the mo..I have no clue if things are opening here next week or what
Merc, neither has the rest of us laugh the streets could be full of aliens for all we know locked up indoors uh oh laugh
