U.S.A.....making it great again

I have heard it said that the U.S.A. was a great country and in the process of being great again. Maybe it is. dunno

I don't like talking politics, and maybe I am just missing something here...which happens a lot with me.

But, we are suppose to have the best medical care in the world. Heck, that is what justifies why we pay a fortune for it. "You pay so much because you have the best healthcare system in the world"....I have often heard it said.

Then why are we leading the world with the most reported cases of Covid? The countries that are in second and third place behind us....I believe have already hit their apex. We...on the other hand...the professionals have no clue when we will hit our apex. In other words, the growth of this virus if far from finished here, and how many more future cases are unable to be predicted.

Why is this... with the "best healthcare system in and the world" Why?

Is it lies?
Is it incompetence?

Just something that baffles me I guess.

Something does not add up here.

Either other countries are under reporting.
Either we are over reporting.
Or....we were very ill prepared...and arrogant perhaps? dunno

In any case, I have heard it said, that when the worse happens...it will bring out the true character of others. With political affiliation set aside for a second here....lets hope as a semi-intelligent group of people living in this great country...lets hope we can pinpoint, when we vote for putting leaders in place, that have control over our lives, we vote the right people (competent) in place. I don't care if they are Democrat or Republican....male or female.

Happy Friday...Stay safe and healthy all.

There is no question about it, he has some very difficult decisions to make. I like that he is business minded, business requires successful decisions to be made. I will say though...that made me a bit alarmed about him. He seems to have a temper. One thing I don't think is good, is making decisions from a state of being angry.

The alarming issue with Trump, is that he clearly favors those that show appreciation of him, like he bluntly expressed in the press statement. That is absurd. You cannot even view it from a business point. And every Nation has an emergency plan and guide as how to handle Pandemics, which he totally disregard -

What he says in his Coronavirus Task Force Brief, looks more like what you would expect from a "Banana Republic", not a leading nation in the world. He should step back and let the experts do the presentation instead. It is pathetic. Luckily there are some governors that show better judgment and seem to have a handle on this.

"Trump played up a drug used to treat malaria as a potential "game-changer" in the fight against coronavirus, Fauci said the only evidence that the drug could be helpful was "anecdotal."

@chatillion yes, and in relation to those drugs in question, there is more and more evidence that they are showing tremendous success and saving lives. You have to understand that people like Fauci always err on the side of caution. But this is not always a good thing. Fauci, if he had the choice, would not allow these drugs to be used until after extensive clinical trials. He said so much himself. It could be a year or more. Which is obviously useless to people suffering now. The drugs have been used for many years to treat and prevent other conditions. Trump is a solutions-oriented person. He looks for ways to make things better. He wants to find solutions. I think most people admire that.
Trump's only priority is the economy. He will say and do anything he can to appease Americans. Without any facts, he set Easter as a target date and doesn't care what the medical professionals say. Saving lives now isn't his goal.

Have you seen one of the recent coronavirus polls?
59 percent of Americans say Trump's Easter timeline is 'too soon' to restart economy
That is unbalanced as 42% of the Republicans say too soon and 75% of the Democrats say it's too soon.

What if he gets his way and reopens businesses in 2 weeks and the coronavirus numbers skyrocket all across America?

What if What if What if blah blah blah blah blah blah

Projecting the worst ain't gonna do you any good. Trump promised nothing. He's projecting positivity - which is well needed. He also touted the possibility of opening certain parts of the country, DEPENDING ON THE DATA. Like I said, solutions-oriented.
America is and will always be great, no problems there. Could they do better, yes I think so. Open by easter is peddling false hope at best, they're really being smashed by this. If we can help then we surely will, they always been there for us lets pay it back. lets get through this.
The only blah, blah blah is wishful thinking coming from Trump.
C'mon guys, whats the way forward? shut some roads, try to contain this thing... Stop movement, increase cleanliness... social isolation?

...Or you gonna keep banging on about what was current a few months back? Its real, its here, what can be done now... and how can we help?
let it run it's course till they come up with a cure. keep doing what we have been doing.
Pat everybody knows the guidelines. Common sense, social distancing, hand washing, cough/sneeze into your elbow. Self-isolation if you think you may have it and get tested if possible. After that it's up to the authorities and health workers on the front lines.
So thats one head in the sand, one hope for the best... Yes we have to follow the guidelines, but this is hardly started, there is no cure any time soon.
Pat there's not a lot else to be done about it, we just have to hunker down. It will pass.
Oh give it a rest, Kalpataru. Barely concealed vindictiveness isn't going to help anyone or anything.
Kals alright, she's probably stressed out. Its going to be a complete shamozzle in her neck of the woods. Not equipped to deal with it at all. I wish her and hers all the best in these times.... Probably a small comfort to blame anything else right now. A distraction. She's a nice person.
"let it run it's course till they come up with a cure. keep doing what we have been doing"

The worst idea to date doh
oh yes you could try praying.
Praying is your only hope of survival if you go with your first idea
Are praying countries any better off, Italy comes to mind...
well what's your plan miss know it all.
we have to let the heath experts do their job. we can't can we.
That is true, String.
But I hope your your sake they won't take your advice laugh
But hang on, lets go with that... They pray in Italy right?... The Pope lives there and does his thing right?... So how come its up there as one of the worst affected?... I mean theres places that dont pray nearly as much, that are not as affected. Is this one one of Jesus's tests of our faith or something? If so let us know and we will start praying to help others.
Praying only helps people mentally.
It won't stop a virus .
And hows that going?
Praying can help people deal with adversity. Whatever gives us strength is good, whether it's praying or something else.
You'll teach all the kids to read because kids are cute and it doesn't matter what colour they are.

Universal healthcare is a bit different especially for those watching themselves and everyone else like a hawk. I think America is simply too private to capitalise on the selfless things people might do.
What you could try to remember is that you don't want to see the doctor and the doctor doesn't want to see you. It shouldn't be selling a service to raise GDP, get away from thinking like a capitalist the aim in healthcare is prevention in a sense it would reduce economy activity - for the greater good.
Just another thought.....it would have been very expensive to prepare for some sort of pandemic. However, after a thought, I think it would depend on the shelf life of supplies. I wonder how long masks would last in careful storage?

I wonder how long other things/equipment/protective clothing the shelf life would be in careful storage.

I would not care, if I was laying on an ICU bed, if the equipment was 20 years old that was keeping me breathing...as long as it was working.

Preparing for something like this could have been down a little each year.

We certainly prepare for physical wars with the latest and greatest weapons.

...anyway, just a thought.

A lot would depend on the shelf life of the equipment. But...perhaps they could be designed and packaged with that in mind.
Hello Chat...

I don't think now is the time to really be going after our President Trump. He is our President and the guy who is in charge. We have no say about that. I think we can only be encouraging and if for any reason we think we got somebody in ANY office, we can be smarter voters next time around.

Thanks for sharing your info. thumbs up
