Who...Who...Who Is Stammering
Stammering is a speech disorder and people often make the mistake to believe that it only consist of the repetition of syllables. It can include the repetition of one or more words, the elongation of a sound, the inability to make a sound, the insertion of a sound and other non-verbal sounds like lip smacking and clearing of the throat.A stammerer may have better days and off days. Some days he may not stammer at all. It is also noted that they seldom stammer when singing or reciting in a group; even if they all normally stammer.
Stammering has a negative impact on the stammerer. He may experience feelings of embarrassment, shame, frustration, fear, anger, and/or guilt. Especially so amongst children who are often mocked on the playground.
Children almost always outgrow stammering and some very famous people stammered as a child.
There is no single recognizable cause for stammering. While stammering can cause stress, it is not caused by stress but can be brought on by it. And, like in the case of blushing, if the person is self-conscious about it, he may drop into a vicious circle feeding itself.
We know very little about stammering. We don’t know what causes it but we do know it is not caused by stupidity, retardedness, anxiety or nervousness. Make it easy on him and pretend not to notice it.

Forgive me, I'm not mocking..... It just came to mind
One of the famous stammerers. Good movie by the way.
This time (and most other times) of the day I have a very bad G3 signal and cannot look at videos. I will certainly look at it later tonight when I have a proper signal again. As it is now I can hardly post comments.
If I see it correctly it is about some monarch who stuttered.
Our history is full of it
Louis II stuttered as was name Louis the Stammerer.
And then there was the poet Notker the Stammerer.
Many other famous people stammered.
Thanks for popping in.
I am not a physician and therefor not able to prescribe treatment. The blog was not intended to do that.
However, I understand that there is no real treatment.
I do understand that the best way to deal with it is to make no big deal about it. To learn to live with it and not to stress about it. A tall order but apparently nothing else to do.
I believe the key to control stammering is vested in the following:
While stammering can cause stress, it is not caused by stress but can be brought on by it. And, like in the case of blushing, if the person is self-conscious about it, he may drop into a vicious circle feeding itself.
Make no big deal of it and ignore it as best as you can. Relaxed people stutter less. IMO
Yes, breathing is another way to control stuttering. It is effective but it does not cure it. There are so many things about the human body that we don't understand yet.
Well I have seen some of this illness and I had two or three students who greatly improved according to them since they were young. They were in the graduating level under my class and they indeed seem to have control on the effect. Vote of confidence and encouragement, they said, was the primary cause of the improvement.
But yes, the frustration and the embarrassment felt by them was very recognizable and our job like you said is to ignore and give them a feeling of sympathy and it made them feel so much better.
Watch the King Speech movie, 2010 I think and it was so nicely done. Collin Firth and Helena Bonham carter with Geoffrey Rush. Great movie, by the way..
Take care and hi to my friend..

Happens at the most ridiculous times too.
Yes, once they can look past the problem it gets better.
You take care too and thanks for dropping in.
I think it is beautiful when a woman blushes and blushing had always been associated with honesty; being unable to tell a lie.
( if you and others did not find any hammer in their hands after an extensive search, then do not worry, the above is just a postmodern poem written by this commentator. )
So you are a poet
and you probably know it.
Thanks for dropping in.
I never stammered Oh well, except when I gave a speech infront of VIP.. the "um.. um.." happened sometimes.. You know, we got nervous sometimes..
My late brother stuttered a bit when he was a child and although it improved as he got older, he went to his grave still stuttering when he got upset or excited. He was 47 when he died.
I once read that you have a chance of one in three that you may stutter if one of your parents stuttered. Well perhaps it can skip a few generations for not my parents nor my grandparents stuttered. Neither did my other brother and nor does my sister. But I did have an uncle on my mother's side who stuttered.
Yes he was young. Also a car accident. Both my brothers died young.
The is a cause for everything. Finding the cause puts you almost there for once you have removed the cause the symptoms disappear.
Maybe she did but not in the way you expected.
Send me one with extra cinnamon and maple syrup via the pony express.
What is biting my friend?
I used to stammering slightly when I was a little girl but only with certain words and if the spotlight was on me! Now I am always in the spotlight but no stammering at all now.
Hmmm, I love myself too. Who do you love?
Learning to be balanced and less demanding.
Now while I do love myself I am loved so much also by many
Demands get you nowhere and yet without demands you also get nowhere.
Eish, not very modest; are we?
Is the Q very long?
I had enough of standing in a Q when I was in the army.
Just stating a fact. Modesty has nothing to do with it!
P.S Now why would you have to queue? Haven't you heard? You are at the top!!
Now that does not say a lot. Could it be on top of the deck, on top of old smokey, on top of spaghetti, on top of the world, on top of whatever?
But thanks for the reassurance. I feel much better.
That is why cutting it to the desired size.
hmmm happy to oblige! You're tops in my book !
