Recipe Pempek or Mpek-mpek

Embedded image from another site

Ingredients

Fish Cake

- 250 gram flesh of Spanish mackerels, grinded
- 5 tablespoons ice water
- 100 g tapioca flour or sago flour
- 20 g plain flour
- 1 teaspoon salt

Soup (Cuko)
- 125 g palm sugar
- 1 cloves of garlic, crushed/smashed
- 2 bird's eyes chillies cut thinly
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoons of tamarind (depend how sour you want the soup is)
- 250 ml water

Additional Ingredients
- Cucumber
- Egg noodle, cooked
- Grinded dried shrimp (ebi) - optional

Directions
1. Grind the fish fillet. Then add ice water and salt. Mix them well.

2. Then gradually add all the flours into the fish mixture until it doesn't stick anymore and you can easily shape it. Then shape pempek as you wish (usually long and round). Then deep fry and set aside.

3. Make the soup (cuko): boil the water with tamarind and palm sugar until sugar is dissolved. Filter, and then add the garlic, chillies and salt. Continue cooking for 3-5 minutes.

4. Serving: place the pempek in plate (you can cut into small pieces), add the noodle and then pour with the soup. Garnish with the cucumber. Some people like to add ebi (grinded dried shrimp).

Would you?

Would you tell a woman that you know has a boyfriend and you have heard her complain about him in the past..."If you are ever looking for a new man, I think you are a nice, responsible, pretty woman, and I am single."

The old me would never want to interfere in anyone's relationship in any way. However, the way things are going in this world, I am starting to think that might be the only way of beginning a relationship.

dunno

Most of the single women I know, are single for a reason....and I don't want anything to do with that.

It is something else, I have not drank to get drunk for nearly a year now. But, I do still hang out at bars. It is beautiful living life sober. A lot of the people I know who use drugs and drink frequently are just bombarded with issues in their lives. legal...financial...relationships...personal....physical.....you name it, it is there.

Anyway, just a little side note there.

Of course, if I don't want to meet a lady who drinks or is on drugs, don't hang out at a bar. Well, I am perhaps stuck trying to pick up ladies who are in relationships otherwise...it would seem.

A friend of mine recently told me....you need to make yourself vulnerable to women. He said that, us men see it as being vulnerable, where women see it as having emotions. I wonder if he didn't read Daniel's blog?

dunno

Would you marry yourself ???

Would you make a great spouse?

You do have the qualities you will look for in a spouse ...

Ok maybe I should ask ....
Would you even want to get married or get married again .... grin

Stereotypes of different countries

After being on here for awhile, I have come to realize that there may be some stereotypes of people from different countries. It may not be said but when you read some of the blogs and things in the forum or even things asked in the polls, it seems that there are some misunderstandings about people from other countries.

As an American, I think many people outside of the US assume that ALL Americans are obese, money hungry, lazy, ignorant of the world around them, and that the women are easy. All though this may be true for a certain number of Americans, we are not all like that. This is like saying that the British (and Irish) are nothing but drunks. And that Candians are either hockey players or mounties (how they are perceived).

I think that we all have things to learn about other countries, the way that they live, and to realize that the way a country is perceived in movies (and in other forms of media) may not always be true.

For me, I know that I have a lot to learn about the way people live in other countries. I think that a great way to learn is by traveling to the countries. I think that it's always important to be respectful of the country (and their customs) you are visiting...no matter how you have perceived the people in the country. In terms of visiting other countries, I've been to England, Ireland, Scotland, and Wales (all in 1997 when I was 15 and a half) and to Nova Scotia, Canada (in 2010). I enjoyed visiting and learning (whatever I could). I was supposed to go to Brazil this year (in August) but I wasn't able to raise all of the money to go so, I have postponed my trip to Brazil until 2013. I'll be going to Brazil to volunteer on a wildlife project. I do hope to visit other countries as well. I'm hoping to visit Peru, South Africa, Kenya, Madagascar, Australia, France, Italy, and Greece. I also think that it would be nice to go to the Scandinavian countries (Norway, Finland, etc.). I hope that it was (is) appropriate to say Scandinavian countries. I'd also like to go back to Canada. As a grad. student in wildlife biology, I am particularly interested in North American wildlife. I am also interested in the wildlife in other countries. It is fascinating to me to think about seeing wildlife in other countries. There are many differences in species that are present but, in some cases, there are many similarities. My interest in wildlife seems to have taken over my blog (or whatever this is called).

This link is one that I found interesting. I looked through to see if any of my perceptions of other countries were listed. Some were and some weren't. Anyway, I thought I'd share it with you guys.

CS Retirement Island

Sometimes I get cranky from my routine life...doing same things over and over again...worse part is when something else complicates that routine and make it worse. Despite all of these tiresome, depressing, irritating and heartbreaking things to deal with, I won't give up my imperfect life...won't mind taking a short break though. Without the lows and downs I could never fully appreciate the highs and ups.

Time will come for all of us, time when we have to stop working, time to let our children have their own life, time to let all broken hearts healed, etc. Many of us will end up alone...I've never felt so alone yet but I can imagine what it would be likemoping .

What if CS offers us a retirement home, in an island. Everything we need, want, whims will be provided for free. Fantastic weather, a home that provides royal treatments...including massage, advanced medical facilities, great night life and entertainment.dancing

Will you sign up and give up the life you are living now?

If you we have to contribute to make this island fun to live in , what could/would you do ? I mean what services can you offer...volunteer?grin

Before you say no,here's a sneak peek...yay

God.Religion.Whatever.

Lets talk about religion and your god shall we? Nah, stuff that, how about I tell you what I believe in and you can either think it's just a good imagination or there could be some real truth to what I'm about to say. Now it states on my profile that I'm a Christian, and I've also said that I am on many occasions, but you'd probably think I'm talking about the biblical God. Eeeee ....Wrong. Because my belief is that God is an alien as was Jesus. I have good valid points, so keep reading please. It says in the Bible that God created Adam and Eve in his own image, right? And Jesus was also the son of God, well why are they always perceived as being white people? Not possible. But possible if aliens intervened.

The Bible was written in what text? Anybody? I'll tell you, Greek. The amount of times it has been rewritten in English is great, and the translation from Greek to English, you would have to lose the real meaning behind the words that were written.
So anyway, "God" the alien, came to Earth thousands of years ago and basically planted his seed amost the natives, of which created Adam and Eve. Adam and Eve were actually brother and sister. Now it was common practise to have s*xual relations between siblings, and they in turn had children of their own. Sounds kind of sick, but we are judging them of the laws that we practice today.
Embedded image from another site

As I've said that God is an alien, well thousands of years later, they returned and impregnated Mary and created Jesus. Moses was visted by an alien and was passed down the Ten Commandments, and one day they will return, and it's going to be like the movie, The Day the earth Stood Still. We as "humans" will be judged when they return, and if things aren't the way they should be, they will have the power to end all as we know it.

Ask yourself this, why in the last 60 years, the sightings of ufos has increased? Are they keeping an eye on us? But if you look into history you will see that they have been here many times, not just within the last century.

There are many reasons why I don't not believe in the Bible, but one of them is, no one can actually prove that what had happened in the stories were true. You give me solid proof that it happened, then I may believe. But I can prove to you that at least my belief is more possible.

Evolution of kitchen

I often wonder how quickly technology changes in a short span of time.

When I was a kid our cook used to prepare food in a clay oven which worked on charcoal or woods. Toy replicas of such clay ovens were very popular among little girls in those days.

Embedded image from another site

The next happening thing was the kerosene stove.

Embedded image from another site

As we all heard the proverb that change is the only constant in life - cooking gas quickly replaced it.

Embedded image from another site

Though the microwave did not replace the gas oven, it joined as an auxillary system or backup.

Embedded image from another site

Now the induction has joined the brigade too.

Embedded image from another site

It is pretty interesting to observe that whenever ( in most cases actually ) the new technology replaced the old one - it implicitly highlighted the division of class. For instance, owning a kerosene stove was considered to be a priviledge of the rich until it became dirt cheap so that everybody could afford, and the same happened in case of gas cooktops and microwaves. Similar analysis can be construed from the examples of gramophones and radios, b&w and color tv-s, desktop and the laptop, land and the mobile phone, and many more.

( As inductions are cheaper than microwaves the above observation does not hold true in this case. )
