Gypsy - An Elegy

I find it strange coming home and
not seeing you here this evening
Even now, with my mind's ear
I still hear the patter of your tiny feet
as you ran into our room
when I opened the door
It is a sound that will always
remain with me

I recall the time I spoke sternly to you
about something you did
that I thought was wrong
and how you went directly
to your favourite spot
and curled up there
You glanced up at me in apology
with those sad eyes full of emotion
which moved me so strangely
that I wondered if it was a child
sitting there looking up at me

I shall always remember how
you sat on your little haunches
somewhat lopsided with
your head half-cocked to one side
one ear up and one ear down
staring at me
as I tried to read your thoughts
or was it you that sat that way
to read my thoughts

I can still hear your pitiful moan
the first day I put you in the kennel
Forgive me for not realizing
that a spirit like yours
was not meant to be caged
After you were set free
how different and alive you looked
jumping around in the yard
with those precise energetic little leaps

So goodbye my little Gypsy
I shall never see you again
but you will always dwell
in that secret spot in my heart
Thank you for the few days
you spent with me
and for the beauty
you brought into my life
I shall always be grateful for it
My dearest little Gypsy

About this poem:
Gypsy was washed down in a canal. I adopted her. I only had her for a few days. I left her in the care of a neighbour for a weekend. When I returned, I was told that she was pushed off the steps by the neighbour's larger dogs and she fell and died. They said they disposed of her body so I never saw her again.

mouse

There once was a toy mouse who would spin around the house. The cats would gaze in confused haze, dogs barking louder then a lark. Wheels turning, pink mouse crooning, a swoosh and a flash the dog in quick motion, the mouse could no longer play.

Suenos de Amor

There was a woman
nightmare of mine,
dead asleep within me
discarded like a dead flower...

A drought divides us
from the flames of my spine,
to her fiery vertebrae
lies barren soil...

Love comes and goes like the night
fleeing with a slice of the soul,
often coming to ransack
what is left of the heart...

Sometimes it is a candle flame
the bright sun in the sky,
only rising to falter
to be reborn another day...

An estranged flower picked from random bush
mockingbird trickster by hand of goddess,
announcing presence to the heart
often not truly seen...

With words of pollen spread to wind
used to heal most restless soul,
bitten deep by faithless love
I replant in fertile soil...

I whisper at night into the dark
before crossing sleeps silent gate,
soon I will be in the arms of another
whose name I not yet know...

She will bring to me
songs of childhood dreams,
upon sheets of milk white silk
and passion will open her thighs...

the diaper tribe

They run around all day long and seem to always get along. When they lay a egg a song of salutation is rung. Off for a dirt bath out in the sun, finishing a hole that was barley begun. Scurring about with out any doubt always on the scout, looking for tht glorous morsel lurking about.

Blessed By A Good Horse

Some are blessed with tranquil passing
While others met a tragic end
Truth is, it's never easy
When you've lost a trusted friend

As horses go, it's sometimes told
In simple words that cowgirls use
He darn sure was a good one
He's the kind you hate to lose

He's the kind you'd ride the river with
Roam the canyons and the breaks
In rough country and wild cattle
He'd be the one you'd take

His efforts weren't ruled by stature
With him you'd finish what you'd start
His limits were governed only
By the dimension of his heart

His expectations were simple
Merely fairness from a friend
But when he'd feel the need to run
Don't try to fence him in

Pure poetry in motion
Across the plains he'd fly
A tried and true compadre
In a seasoned cowgirl's eye

His courage was unmatched by mortal men
From conquistadors to kings
Cowboys sing his praises
At roundups in the spring

Ain't it strange how thoughts of horses lost
Mirror those of men past on?
And though they've gone to glory
Their spirit's never gone

Sometimes simple words seem best
When final words we choose
He darn sure was a good one
He's the kind you'd hate to lose

About this poem:
A tribute to the horse I lost in September '09. I never did have the time to mourn him but now I do.He was a beautiful dapple gray, hence the color I used for this work. *wipes away tears*

Night Fight

'Twas in the darkened shadows,
Which were blacker than the night,
I heard the sounds of howling strong,
Two felines in a fight.

A neighbor from a window shouting.
"That's enough, go home!"
A quiet came upon the night,
And never did I roam.

But 'twas only a few minutes past,
The brawl began again,
And in the eyesight of my mind,
I wondered who would win.

A whine, a howl, a howl a whine,
Went ripping through the air.
'Twas not 'til morning would I know,
Just how the two would fair.

I thought I'd see in early light,
The victor or his foe,
But if 'twas not for the night before.
No signs were left to know.

About this poem:
I was just thinking about some things that we hear in the night. How in the morning, if we had slept through it all, often times we would never even know it happened at all.

REDEX & HEDI STORY part 2

cat's eyes wide at the sight of mousie
ascamper in play outside of the house
'this squeaking dart would make a fine dinner
I'll bide my time, and purr to befriend her'
charade of cool kitty was tenuous at best
unknown, on high watching, was owl in her nest

meanwhile, teathered, on the far side of the yard
big dog was grousing silently, 'this staying put is hard!'
'oh if I could just get free, I'd chase that cat around'
'and if my teeth should catch her, I'd grind her on the ground'

under such pressure, then, dog's rusty tie snapped
surprising himself, plus, woke kitty's catnap
frightening the mouse, who took off in a run
now a startling new chain of events had begun

mouse's trust of cat might prove it's undoing
for quickly behind her, the cat was pursuing
tiny mouselegs pumping, as hard as they could
fearing her end may not end up so good

but dog was now almost on top of the cat
hard pounding in chase, mass slobbering fat
kitty shrieked, then sprinted around the house
yet she was still doggedly, after the mouse

no pace of prominade nor steps of stealth
a scairdy cat now, afraid for it's health
as dog gained on the cat, and cat gained on the mouse
arose noisy whoosh from on high by the house

just when mousie feared to be trapped in cat's paws
an owl lifted mouse off safely within her claws
they perched on a limb, eyes turned to the ground
watching dog chasing cat, around and around

but tweren't a surprise what hoot had done
for they had been fellows when they were young
when out of nest, young owlet plunged
nourished with fluorish from mousie's tongue
and now, 'last allowed to repay for such care'
her wing now protecting friend mouse sitting there

they bubbled and bounced, their laughter out loud
said owl 'that darn cat's no longer so proud'
'struggling to keep reach out of doggy's print paws'
'and safe from the bite of that mean old cur's jaw'

About this poem:
finish this up Red...I'm very, very dizzy..golly!, as I've trod in the footfalls of a dog, a cat, a mouse (wee footsfalls), and shot for the moon on owl's wing. I'm so amix, now never quite sure whether or when I'm a hoot hooting or squeeky scooting or hound howling or meow prowling...

Pitter Patter

Pitter-patter, pitter-patter
Hoppity-hop, ears go flop!
Silky fur, whizzing like a blur
Beady dark eyes, stocky thighs

Pitter-patter, pitter-patter
Snow-white coat, splashed with color
Browns fading, beige shading
Mocha ears, chocolate smears

Pitter-patter, pitter-patter
Twitching nose, furry, little toes
Long, back feet, somehow discrete
Tiny, round tail, body so frail

Pitter-patter, pitter-patter
Nibbling away without a single delay
Simple ways, curiosity ablaze
Small front paws, cute without flaws

Pitter-patter, pitter-patter…

This is just a cute lil poem I wrote about one of my rabbits. I don't usually write "happy" poems, so I figured I'd challenge myself to actually write a happy one. (:

"The Dog" - Elo's 'Rubaiyat' Challenge

The dog, given by God to be man's best friend,
loving and faithful companions to the end.
Forgiving us for every error we make.
Trying to please us is the message they send.

Spirit of Shadow

With such royality engraved on his face
One that never falls from noble grace
Born into the world to make his place
Outdoors wandering in some sunny hollow
In ground misshapen by old plow furrow
Slowly creeps a form low and shallow
Stealthily where small creature's burrow
Prowls a hunter in the long grass meadow
A roaming spirit of a cat named Shadow
