The Man Who Never Smiled.

Come gather round the campfire mates and listen for a while,
And I'll tell you all the story of the man who never smiled.
He was somewhat of a rover, and his friends all called him John
He hailed from southern New South Wales, a place called Wollongong.

Well he finished up in Queensland where he met this bird named Jean
And together then the pair set out to do the Brisbane scene.
But within a month she left him, stony broke, without a cent
With nothing but a memory,(and a bill for two weeks rent!)

So further North, to Anakie, John chased his silver lining
On Queensland's famous sapphire fields he tried his hand at mining.
Well he made a quid at this new lurk, became a man of means
And with his new found wealth set out to find his love it seems.

Now he got as far as Rocky where he thought he'd stop a while
And took a job as fencer (just to help to pass the time.)
But alas, he didn't last long for he clocked the overseer
And it was round about this time he started on the beer.

Then his bird wrote him a letter asking him to come and get her
Up at Tully (she was with another bloke)
In the bar there at the station getting stuck into a ration
Of Bacardi. (That's the stuff they drink with Coke.)

Well she went with him to Townsville and they found a little flat
And it seemed at last that things had turned out right
But again she up and left him while he was asleep (God rest him)
Not a single word, just vanished in the night.

Now poor old John just went to pieces and got stuck into the grog
For to him (at least) it seemed his life was over.
So he boozed up day and night, they say he looked a flamin'fright
It was a miracle if ever he was sober!

Some folk said that he was "queer"while others blamed it on the beer
And it's 20 years (they say) now since he smiled
He had made and spent a fortune on a bird who had ignored him
I tell you mates, women! Just ain't worth your while.

Well I guess I'd better leave now as I've still a ways to go
Destination? I don't really know, I'm following my nose
So I guess I'll see you round mates as I've stayed here far too long
What's my name you ask? I thought you knew, it's John..from Wollongong.

About this poem:
True story. Happened long, long ago. Never got the bird and haven't had a beer in over 30 years. To this day I still have trust issues.
Probably why I'm still single! Note: The places depicted here are real but some will be unknown to some International members.

diana 1 (Tribute)

Many golden links in
A chain are we all
It's love that binds us
Lest we fall
Not a single link should
Go unheeded
Or we'll morn for a lost
We sorely needed
So it is when loving
Hearts take their pause
We most deeply feel
Our cherished cause
That's why we chill the
Wine at evenings sun
And toast to a beauty
Called diana 1.

A Woman

Embedded image from another site

Morning streams into my room
Sighing, I can still smell perfume
Thoughts awaken like indigo broom
Branching through my heightened senses
Bring smiles reminiscing and lightly scented

The night before was full of dreams
Visions of a lover and romance it seems
The picture of this idyllic man is very intense
I become deeply immersed in my sensual thought
If I dwell too long in this dream I become overwrought

In the cold nights of coming winter
Conjuring a lover to keep me warm simmer
Like a tree, a man sturdy with eyes that glimmer
Sadness of life when north winds blow and ice freezes
Brings me to places of soft warm summer days and breezes

Deeper I plunge into actually wanting
I’m awake stretching my mind and yawning
Tears begin, musing for this lover in my dawning
This is how a woman’s heart cries to be given to a man
And why a man should know the value of a heart and understand

As tears fill my eyes I rise up to leave
This room full of scents that makes me grieve
Still thinking of the lover and how skillfully I weave
Into existence a friend, a lover, sturdy and strong to be with me
A journey that joins hearts and dreams in beautiful precious reality

The Speed of Love

Moving at the speed of love
Here, let me help give it a shove
Has something gone terribly amiss
Oh, this isn't your pictured bliss

Honestly, are you even venturing to try
Please, whatever you do, don’t start to cry
Dry those eyes, the ones red from all the tears
Suck it up now along with all your crazy fears

Banish bad feelings to the outer kingdom
Prepare yourself for your complete Elysium
This is just the same crazy romance
Please, take that millionth chance

Moving at the speed of love
Come on, take off that boxing glove

Whatever you do, don’t try to fight it sweetheart
It’s like letters and numbers on a Snellen chart
More complex than body art
Just do your part
Love could always fall apart
Or, it may never start

Take heart before it all departs
Leaving you much wiser rising like a geyser
Or, unstable and hot like a volcano
Looking for that mystic illusive rainbow

Your love may show up from Macao
The speed of love knows no bounds
They could be speaking and smiling a ciao
Or offering to pay for everything in pounds

The speed of love is such a mystery
So when you’re feeling that heartache misery
Remember the mister or missy could be slippery
A veritable twister and very awesome glittery
Adding to your misery, making you all jittery

Go ahead; just follow up on that inquiry
Yes it could be black magic trickery
However you owe it to yourself to think
About this
It could be the one little damn victory
Leading you to a picture perfect delivery
A kind of fateful twist
Sealing love's bliss
At the speed of love,
Undreamed and
Unheard of

Poem #3

Poem #1 was
just a joke
It could never
reveal the facts
Poem #2 was not
much better than
a ball of crumbling
wax
But poem #3 might
reveal that smile
I've longed for all
my life
When in nervous
anticipation I ask
you to be my wife~

Let's just talk

Meet me downtown
maybe two, or three
We'll do cheese and
fries just you and me
Nothing much, just
wanna say
How lucky I am you
passed my way

YOU

you are my moon
you are my star
you are the love
that flows within my heart
you are my sun
on a cloudy day
you are my shelter
when it starts to rain
and just when i give up
you become my voice
constantly reminding me
that i have a choice
you are my window
you help me to see
that we belong together
just you and me

I'm just a memory..

I'm just a
memory..
Never thought of
it that way
Just an old tin can
blowin' in the wind
Little else to
say
Mabey I'll find my
tomorrow in some
yesterdays old
news
This memory thing
might just work out
And I'll forget to
sing the blues~

'Person'(ality) v's Looks

There's a certain 'person'(ality)
to the way we look
And a certain look to our
'person'(ality)
But at the end of the day
when we're all done looking
That 'person' is our 'Re'(ality)..
