RE: What does God mean to you?

I always find it quite remarkable how precisely many people keep God inside His box...

It has been abundantly clear to me for decades that He gets to decide how to do things

RE: Why do younger Aussie women have unreasonably high expectations?

For a long time I thought there was a huge ratio difference of men to women in Australia—- just googled it and it is right on 50/50. But to answer your question— having unreasonably high expectations of the dating pool overall, is always a problem. People are becoming more and more spoiled, narcicisstic. Picky picky picky....

RE: Any genuine Irish men looking for a potential Partner?

The poll is a bit confusing. I just skipped it and gave him the answers to his topic question. (I think some people are just awkward about phrasing. I overlook it...)

RE: Any genuine Irish men looking for a potential Partner?

LaFonda——he’s gay and is putting feelers out to see if there are any other gay Irish fellows that might be interested; and/or what pubs in his area may cater to, or be friendly to, gay men.

RE: Any genuine Irish men looking for a potential Partner?

Try to find and watch a very good movie called “Priest”, with Linus Roach. I’d think in Dublin you would be able to connect. Let me do a tad research, see what pops up ( no pun intended)

Rents

Morning all..Today I’m interested in finding out about regional (other than The U.S.) systems and programs for rent. For example, we have “HUD”, which is the umbrella agency for public housing. Two main programs fall within this—PHA ( public housing authority), and Section Eight. The first one is apartment units owned and operated by the federal government. Section Eight is houses and apartments privately owned, but the owner is willing to accept “vouchers” for qualifying renters. Rent is based on income adjusted after medical and utility allowances, and is no more than 40% of this adjustment. (It’s usually about 30%). It is possible to have one’s entire rent paid. Some landlords really like HUD, some can’t stand it. Because there is a “cap” on the original amount the rent may be, high- end and so forth, units don’t qualify. Landlords are known to keep their rents too high to qualify...Getting HUD is not very easy, even if one qualifies. Often there is a halt of even taking applications; there are waiting lists to get on waiting lists! Even so, it is a good organization, and the management is relatively kind and empathetic. Also, one doesn’t have to be “dirt-poor” to qualify...income can be about 2100.00 net monthly for a single person. Just wondering how your areas deal with housing challenges...thanxteddybear

RE: Would you rather be...

Tough one, especially since I’m a folk musician. If I HAD to pick, I would want to be able to see. So many more of life’s compromises if one is unable to see— difficult to get around, more dangers, etc...however, I’m continually thanking God for my relatively good health. Long long story, but I’ve survived a journey the majority do not. Trust me...Halleluia to the end of universe and time. Thank God Thank God Thank God. I don’t know why He chose me to live, and live well, but He did.rose

RE: Which Is Your...

There does seem to be conflicting thoughts regarding feelings. Some groups, ie SDA, sharply warn against trusting to “feelings”. However, many well-read, highly educated, clear thinking people encourage us to “go with your feelings”, ie, “gut feeling”, “red flags”, etc...I’m OK with going with my feelings...it is conflicting to hear two completely opposite ways of looking at it, though.handshake

RE: Which Is Your...

My ruling planet is Mercury. However, those born after the meridian of the season (closer to next sign) are affected by Venus. But, get this: if there is a conflict of any stature, Mercury prevails. Once upon a time I had my chart professionally “ thrown”, and all these details came out. I know there’s a bunch of negative rhetoric about astrology; I believe there’s something to it...just can’t be “proven”. Do think of this, though...many widespread accepted things also cannot be “proven”. dunno I remain open- minded, at least.cool

RE: Who are your favorite...

I tend to like some of the older authors— John Steinbeck, Jack London, Erma Bombeck, “Heloise”, Guy de Maupassant, O. Henry.....

RE: Believers, Brothers and Sisters

Thank you for validating. I want you to know something: I hesitate to either verbalize or put into print these kinds of comments because I’m acutely sensitive about not wishing to insult and/or be condescending to Him. But the mortal ‘man’ within me fully celebrates and embraces my academic and spiritual mind, which was also freely and willingly given to me, and my very active research engine is put in gear. In the final analysis, I firmly believe He’s fine with this. (Why go to the trouble of creating brain cells if they’re not to be used?)

RE: Promotional Offers of the Mid- to Late-Twentieth Century...

The first prizes were little tin toys—some came flat and you had to “bend” them to shape. I believe these are extremely expensive in antique shops now.

RE: Promotional Offers of the Mid- to Late-Twentieth Century...

Just two things come to mind: My aunt turned me on to collecting “S&H Green Stamps”, usually from supermarkets, and with some help from her, I finally had enough to buy my first camera! Later, when I bought my first car, Chevron * gas stations gave out “point cards”, and after collecting enough, you got a free run through their car wash, more points earned you an oil change.

*I think it was Chevron, could be another...

RE: Believers, Brothers and Sisters

Here is my question, and yes, I am a believer, and yes, I believe in ‘eternal security’. However, this is valid, so bear with me:

You (God) gave me Free Will. You want me to have it. But if I were to use it, and You didn’t like how I used it, I would be in danger of Hellfire, and many Christians adamantly believe this, too. Now, why would You give me a gift I cannot use, or that has an untenable outcome if I do? (Conditional Free Will is an oxymoron. It can’t be both ways)....

Something I’ve wondered about for years....

This is regarding a situation from my work past. So, I had made friends with a registered nurse who was a co-worker. We had the same day off in one week, and she invited me over to her house for lunch. I accepted. When I entered the house, I noticed that there were tears in both sofa and chairs, stuffing missing/falling out, ripped wallpaper, dust and dirt everywhere, dirty dishes piled all over the kitchen, even moldy, two unkempt parrots with droppings covering the cage and floor, and dog/cat crap here and there. The house smelled, as well. You are not going to believe this woman’s job title:

Executive Director of Infection Control.

Is this one of those Freud stories of someone being so stressed from life’s requirements that they ‘ rebel’ at home, or something along those lines? Just wanting feedback—- where’s Jac? She’s smart about this kind of question...laugh laugh

I may have mentioned this before, so sorry if it’s redundant.

RE: Site Improvements??

My first thought is regarding your comment about not being able to eliminate new profiles from being presented in your search results. Well, what did you think would happen...?...after all, you are tacitly requesting them by searching in the first place. Otherwise, it would seem like you’re asking to only see profiles you’ve already viewed. Now seriously, what kind of sense does THAT make? For the second comment, read the “ forums” elective; the last log-ins (in every category—- ie, international, EU, etc...) are from the top- down, indicating when (ie, “just now”, or, “3 minutes ago”) the comment was made, by whom, and the last member who answered. If a member is not approachable by the e-mail provided, their username is gray (you can’t even view their profile). Personally, I don’t get how and why a member can participate and yet be isolated, but it’s something that is allowed. CS is better than any other club of this kind, it’s free, and the rules are pretty fair and upfront. Chill, daddy-o.

RE: Checking profiles.

At first, your point of view may seem valid. However, checking out a profile and not leaving a message is not “rude”; so try not to personalize it. If I do this (which is rare) and see nothing compatible, it would seem awkward to say anything. Your profile is up. You created it. You are in control of this action. Publicizing it is a choice, and other members will either write or not. Don’t over-work it. It’s not a big deal. And, doesn’t it seem just a little unnecessary to say something like, “Oh hi. I checked out your stats, but I’m not interested”. Right?? Silence is golden.

Peace, brother. Don’t let it live in your head. handshake

RE: Is it acceptable?

Sure. I’ve done it...Did you know that (regionally) a poached or “over-easy” egg in the pizza’s center is traditional? BTW, I justify pizza for breakfast this way— after all, you have the “toast”, cheese, fruit/veg, meat and egg. Pour a glass of orange juice and it’s a square meal!
