Behind the black curtain She sits in a chair Waiting for her name to be called As she sits and waits night time falls the halls have been cleared the walls all bare How long has it been Since somebody has been here Her once beautiful
“Strange, is it not? that of the myriads who Before us pass'd the door of Darkness through, Not one returns to tell us of the Road, Which to discover we must travel too.” (Omar Khayyam – The Rubaiyat, verse 46) Omar Khayyam was a Persian mathematician, astronomer, and poet. He was born on May 18, 1048 and died on December 4, 1131. The verse of his poem quoted was written more than nine centuries ago. The message of his poem still holds today. My poem, “The Other Side”, is in line with the quoted verse from Khayyam's poem and is not meant to disparage the religious beliefs of anyone.

Time is a blur…, I’m driving home in rural Africa, nursing a very, very broken heart, A Greek goddess called Diana is responsible, I stop at a petrol station, Suddenly, I became aware of a presence next to me, I look up, a young African man, wit
I started this a couple of days ago and just finished it today, May 4th. This poem is definitely a reflection of all the things that have been on my mind the past few weeks. As we get older, we can't help looking back over our lives. Being forgiven becomes as much a part of being able to forgive in the course of healing. Looking outside ourselves, yet deeply inward, past the stuff we would rather not look at. I feel that all the work I've done on myself in recovery the past 22 years, has made me a better person, sure. But only now do I feel I am truly ready to love that one special man for the rest of my life. I just don't know his name yet. THANK YOU for taking the time to have a read.
