How long does it hurt?

years go by
and still it does

a glimpse, a vision
reminds you of what was not to be

yet as much as you know
that it could not be

your heart still wants, desires
what it cannot have

the tears glisten in the eyes
the sobs catch in your throat

but reality remains
the hurt stays with you

it takes courage to not let it consume you

I Hear

I hear the song of morning birds
And wings I wish to spread
To fly up high where troubles naught
Are apt to pass you by

I hear the song of a church choir
Singing praises to the Lord
My soul it lifts and soars aloft
Like an eagle on the wing

I hear the wind through trees it rush
To places far away
My memories lift and swirl about
The lifetime of my past

I hear a heavy laboured breath
And heart that beats so slow
My time is here, I go with joy
And Heaven waits for me

love kills

what is there to say?
my friend was in love with a girl
they had been an on and off couple for some years
mostly on...
beginning back when they were still in high school
he must have been deeply in love with her
she had feelings for him as well
but she insisted that she not be tied down
she wanted to run with other friends of hers
and, I suppose, see other young men
perhaps a reasonable mindset
yet she always returned to be with my friend
he had little interest in any other than she
he never dated any other women
one might say that he was obsessed with her
he just maintained until she came back to him
which she invariably did, time after time
til one day when he was at her home
she lived with her parents who were out at the time
her father was a police officer
up in her bedroom that day...they argued
like they had done so many times before
he professing his love for her
pleading...that she stop seeing other people
...that she love him alone
she would have none of it
she said that she would do whatever she wished
he said 'if you don't say you love me...I'll kill myself'
she said 'I don't love you..go ahead, kill yourself..see if I care'
it was then that he rushed from her bedroom
down the stairs as if he were leaving the house
the next moment she heard a single loud explosion from below
her father always left his sidearm on a dining room buffet
my friend had picked up the gun
pointed it at his head
pulled the trigger
and was killed
what is there to say?

About this poem:
this is a true account of two of my friends. I know it's true for she told it to me. he died at age 21. she suffered a mental breakdown and spent a couple of years in therapy. I saw her a few years later. she said that she was still riddled with guilt, deservedly or not, but that she was getting along alright. her demeanor had definitely changed from what it had been prior to this incident. he was a good friend. this was 37 years ago. I miss him very much.

THE DRAWER

Their belongings were buried side by side
In a shallow bureau drawer. There was her
Crocodile handbag, letters, a brooch,
All that was in the bedside cupboard
And a small green jar she’d had for flowers.

My father’s were in an envelope:
A khaki lanyard, crushed handkerchief,
Twelve cigarettes, a copying-pencil,
All he had on him when he was killed
Or all my mother wanted to keep.

I put them together seven years ago.
Now that we’ve moved , my wife and I,
To a house of our own, I’ve taken them out.
Until we can find another spare drawer
They’re packed in a cardboard box in the hall.

So this dead, middle-aged, middle-class man
Killed by a misfired shell, and his wife
Dead of cirrhosis, have left one son,
Aged nine, aged nineteen, aged twenty-six,
Who keeps things they used in a cardboard box.

About this poem:
Just a poem I wished to share with you ... many things in our house keep reminding us about our loss ... loss of parents is the heaviest ever ... when we are left alone, on our own in real and confront the perils of world with no backing of parents or in fact no backing at all.

Lhasa Apso

Lhasa Apso, what is that
My son did shyly ask
Eyes still sad from tragic loss
His puppy it had died

A dog, you goose, I did reply
White bundle of fluff was lifted
Mouth shaped a perfect O
Little fingers reaching

His little arms they held it tight
It's fur he gently stroked
Gentle kisses on the nose
A tongue his face it washed

The sadness dropped behind a veil
His eyes a joy to see
Wide eyed wonderment
A twinkle there within

And yet the puppy not forgot
Still wanders to the garden
Cross at grave to mark the site
Whispers, Goodnight Tia

the weeping Clock..

It's time, I say..
It's written on my face
Every moment I declare
Every second do I trace

When my chimes are ringing
the 11th hour has come
The hour of reckoning is
near
The countdown has begun

What have you done with
your time?
Did you think time could
be bought?
You measured your life
in years
Never gave it a minutes
thought

Now like a fish caught
in a net you've been
counted among the wicked
Because you sold your
soul to evil
To purchase this fateful
ticket

Now the weeping clock
has stopped
But for you it all begins
Your hour of reckoning
has come
To pay for all your sins..

Remains

No longer can you see her
In her physical shell
But she remains.
When the wind musses your hair
It is her fingers you feel.
When the sun rises
It is her glow that reflects off the water.
When it rains
It is her love falling onto you.
She is in the air that you breathe,
The water you taste,
And the emotions you feel.
She remains.
Memories from the past
New experiences in the future
She remains with you in her natural state.
She remains.

For What It's Worth

For what it’s worth
I always loved you
you were my world
the moon
the stars
my reason for living

For what it’s worth
I didn’t mean to hurt you
to leave you
alone
lonely
crying in your pillow

For what it’s worth
we will meet again
death is not the end
live in heaven
life eternal
together we’ll be again

which path will i take

Into these poems I put my thoughts
My feelings
The why life has led me on
Should I go this way or the other path way

Which is best the left or the right path way
My future I do not know what is instore only the future will no
I know my past this hidden from preying eies for am the only one that know
Do I learn from my past mistakes
Or do carry on as I go on this lonley lonesome path I do not know

Change I must accept and open my arms and caress for this is the way I have to go
Forward not backwards this the direction I must go
