Phantasm

You lie in wait for your chance to leap
Springing your weight off coiled legs
I watch as you jump into the air so high
And drift towards the center of the sky
And float into a slow motioned decent
Wings folding back as your claws come out
I'm still watching as you fall like lighting
Fast not even time to move or shout
Just as suddenly with pretentious aim
Adrenaline and action bulging in your veins
Held back only for a moment in time
Before releasing wildly like flames
Turning blindly and out of control
With such ferocity for survival you strike
Leaving only a pile of fur and bones

Sands Of Time

Grains of sand
trickling down
the narrow crystal neck
of the hourglass

Each grain a measure
of that mysterious entity
called Time
The grains above
hold the future
The grains below
store the past
The moving grains
capture the present

At the hour's sunrise
your flow begins
At the hour's sunset
it ends

On Winter Shores

Restless lake you’ve become all blue and grey
Crashing waves now crust on your icy screes
Hear the winter winds come howling away
When cold drops below tolerable degrees

Faced with mighty hunger a gull awaits
Motionless and crouched in its ruffled plume
Ever searching eyes scanning sharp with fate
Shimmering morsels with scales to consume

My thoughts drift slowly away like the snow
Swirl lightly like dancing feathers or leaves
All around me cast an eerie shadow grow
Anything my mind perceives or believes

Quiet the days in dusky December
Mirrored into my mind shall remember

THREE LITTLE LEAVES

Embedded image from another site

There were three little leaves that hung together
Until one day there was windy weather
They dropped to the ground one by one
Drifting down without a sound

Suddenly another gust came and blew
Picking up one and away it flew
Far over the land out of sight
Leaving the other two shivering in fright

Another big swirl picked another up and away
Leaving the third the only one to stay
Once in a while one or the other returned to see
The third little leaf but then again would leave

Finally the sad little leaf was left all alone
Laying there tucked tight to the ground
Until it decayed and to the roots returned
Nourishing the new leaves that appeared

A Christmas Sparrow

Are winter sparrows in the park
In its top branches are perched
A cheerful song a sweet note
A hungry eye for berries searched
Folded wings and a tiny shiver
A flurry of many fluttered wing
Then as one voice in a chorus
The little creatures begin to sing
The joyful news of a newborn king
Their message pass year to year
Triumphant in such solstice cheer
In that long twilight bright aureus
The sound of nature glorius
Atop the twigs of golden laurus

bird haiku

bird raises its wings
insect in grass stirs to look
and is gobbled up

checking all around
bird steals remnants of dog food
then flies to the trees

tucking in its wings
pelican dives and misses
fish scatter laughing

soaring in the sky
vulture though hideous looking
gracefulness in flight

The days will be getting longer soon

Remember December
Nights bite off from days
Minute by minute
Trees stretch naked branches into grey sky
Begging for sunshine
Grey streets, grey air soaked with rain
It gets quiet when snow falls
The parachutes of show flakes
Not in a hurry to touch the ground
Whirl and weave the white cover
That buries the past and smooths edges
The amber of candlelight warms the dark
Inertia of living lets us pass
Over the hump of solstice
Soon the days will be getting longer

Little Bud

One fine spring morn as I walked through the wood,
I spied an uncommon handsome little bud.
It stood out from the rest on a chestnut tree,
I know not why it so appealed to me.

I watched it through the summer as it grew.
Its splendour and its beauty stood it apart.
Its green was of the most enchanting hue,
and to that regal leaf I lost my heart.

Then September came and turned my leaf to red;
by October my beloved leaf was dead.

GIFTED FREEDOM.

Sense of silence, as waves beat the shore
No humans linger, just gull give the encore
Wind drives ocean spray, scatters all around
Surf-shells upon the sand, cause rolling sound

Dune grass waves and bends, eerie-wild
Seaweed wet and twisted, randomly piled
Bleak in the evening light, giver of peace
Rugged solitude, raw beauty will never cease

As the light fades, only sounds will be heard
Crashing on shore, silence from sleeping birds
Moonlight plays its part, shimmering on the sea
Nature never harnessed, and gifted for free...….

HOARDER OF BEAUTY.

Rock formation, reach for the sky
Sharp and majestic, soaring high
Cloud capped, at the start of day
At breaking dawn, sun-rays play

Surreal beauty, as a picture posed
Snow capped in winter, until day close
Wearing hostile, haunting-chilled face
None can deny, pure natural grace

Beckoning, to view in true awe
Cone like inspiration, never bore
Within its shadows, or from afar
Viewed by all, unique rising star

From close up, true details seen
In the distance, a magical dream
Of wonder, allow eyes to focus-absorb
Storing beauty, nature collectors hoard

Spectacle, rolling plains that stretch
In all directions, as if scene was set
Backdrop, forms a frame of wonder
Whether viewed in sun, rain or thunder...…

Eerie, in darkness glows surreal
Wearing halo, heavenly light peels
Drawing eyes, from miles around
Haunting beauty, that makes no sound......
