This is why we have so many problems. There are way too many people unable to respectfully disagree with another persons belief or better yet, leave people alone to worship or not worship in a manner that's right for each individual. The Christian religeon alone is shattered into countless denominations and we're often brutal towards each other's beliefs because we interpret the Bible differently. Other religeons and those who do not believe in a God are the same.
Everyone just has to be right when in fact, I don't believe any of us have the 100% correct answer. I guess we'll have to continue to have these debates and wars until one destroys the other and then we can find something else to fight about like the color of our skin, the way we talk, what side of the bread we butter, etc... Oh wait, we already do that..

I think 20 minutes is pretty late and I don't think I would stick around beyond that. I'm always punctual out of respect for the other person's time so I expect the same. I'd probably stick around a bit longer if she had warned me in advance she might be late or called my on my cell to say she was running late.

The fact is, I am an American working in Afghanistan and while I regret that you would use the term "cultured" with sarcasim when describing Americans, I understand it because many others from different countries have done and continue to do the same.
I only mention this because people have a tendancy to jump to incorrect conclusions about people based on very little information.

I don't recall attributing those things (U.S. arrogant, rude, loud, without culture) to you but I can understand if you took it that way. I was actually attributing that to the many other posts. I specifically attributed the title of your thread to you.
I don't consider myself any smarter than anyone else and I don't feel offended. I actually feel more sympathy than anything else for those who generalize or stereotype others based on their interaction with a relative few from any group.

If people haven't figured out the difference yet, I doubt there's anything you or anyone else is going to be able to say or do to convince them of anything else. It's far easier to categorize people into little groups than it is to actually understand.
I'm no expert but I know there are cave paintings in Europe which are over 30,000 years old that depict what some believe to be religious scenes.
It would seem to me that we humans along with our earlier versions of himanity have always tried to find ways to explain things we don't understand or fear. If that's the case, it would seem only logical for us to create a being or God capable of having all the knowledge and power we lack. It would also seem logical for some to take advantage of those fears or lack of understand to control people.
Who really knows for sure but I'd guess that religion in some shape, form or fashion has been around since mankind has been capable of thought and able to communicate with one another.
