A Grateful Heart

A Thanksgiving Day compilation NOVEMBER 27, 2014

Every day should be Thanksgiving Day—a time to thank God for all our many blessings. We should be thankful and treasure every moment of every day and constantly be praising and thanking God for it. Every day can be Christmas if the Spirit of Christmas lives in our hearts. Every day can be every holiday rolled into one when we make it so in our hearts and live it so through our actions.—David Brandt Berg

*

It was Thanksgiving Day and I was ten years old. I was in a welfare ward of a city hospital and was scheduled to undergo major orthopedic surgery the next day. I knew that I could only look forward to months of confinement, convalescence, and pain. My father was dead; my mother and I lived alone in a small apartment and we were on welfare. My mother was unable to visit me that day.

A young student nurse heard my sobbing and came over to me. She took the covers off my face and started wiping my tears. She told me how lonely she was, having to work that day and not being able to be with her family. She asked me whether I would have dinner with her. She brought two trays of food: sliced turkey, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce and ice cream for dessert. She talked to me and tried to calm my fears. Even though she was scheduled to go off duty at 4 P.M., she stayed on her own time until almost 11 P.M. She played games with me, talked to me and stayed with me until I finally fell asleep.

Many Thanksgivings have come and gone since I was ten, but one never passes without me remembering that particular one and my feelings of frustration, fear, loneliness, and the warmth and tenderness of the stranger that somehow made it all bearable.—Martin Ginsberg

*

A Thanksgiving Day editorial in the newspaper told of a schoolteacher who asked her class of first-graders to draw a picture of something they were thankful for. She thought of how little these children from poor neighborhoods actually had to be thankful for. But she knew that most of them would draw pictures of turkeys or tables with food. The teacher was taken aback with the picture Douglas handed in—a simple, childishly drawn hand.

But whose hand? The class was captivated by the abstract image. “I think it must be the hand of God that brings us food,” said one child.

“A farmer,” said another, “because he grows the turkeys.”

Finally when the others were at work, the teacher bent over Douglas’ desk and asked whose hand it was. “It’s your hand, teacher,” he mumbled.

She recalled that frequently at recess she had taken Douglas, a scrubby, forlorn child, by the hand. She often did that with the children. But it meant so much to Douglas. Perhaps this was everyone’s Thanksgiving, not for the material things given to us but for the chance, in whatever small way, to give to others.—Author unknown

I like the contented way the Pilgrims approached life. They did not allow their feelings or circumstances to determine whether or not they would exercise gratitude and thanksgiving. They believed that God was in control—“providence,” they called it. Following this belief to its logical conclusion, they responded to challenges with a perspective that said, “God has allowed this for our good.” They chose to believe—rightly so—that their dependence on a holy, faithful God was well placed and that even though much was against them, there was always much more for which to be grateful.—Barbara Rainey

*

As we enter Thanksgiving, we tend to focus on our blessings and giving thanks for God’s goodness. While that is certainly a good thing, it is not the best thing. The best thing is to turn Thanksgiving into Thanks-living. Regardless of the day or the situation, God wants us to be thankful. (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)

It's about time !

Time. It seems that there is nothing we can do about it.
Seconds, minutes, weeks, months, years, and decades all seem to
elapse and vanish forever right before our eyes.
Oh sure, in movies there are time machines that allow us
to step into some magical portal as a gateway to other times.
But, that is pure fantasy, which is never going to happen. crying
Damn, there goes my dates with Athena, Helen of Troy and Pocohontas. laugh

Then, there is Einstein's theory of relativity, where time,
mass, and energy are interrelated. This has inspired some
to postulate, that if we could somehow travel faster than the speed of light, that we could travel back in time. Wrong ! It might appear so, if we moved in the direction further away from earth, but time would still march forward. It would just appear that way, as the light catches back up with us and even then, you would need a very powerful telescope to witness this. If you traveled faster than the speed of light to the same place where you began, time would still have elapsed (albeit a very small amount of it).

Time & time again, you cannot cheat time ! scold
Face it, time is our only unreplenishable resource. No matter how rich you may be, you simply cannot buy more of it. scold OK, you might be able to buy a bunch of timeshares in Hawaii, the Riveria, and Fiji. But, could you spend all your time there ? confused

Oh hell, why not ! applause
Lets pack our bags & enjoy the trip ! cheers
And I am not packing a watch ! tongue

With THIS blog, I'm risking an injury

And maybe a friendship also....
but I done it years ago before, and because I'm deeply worried, I'll risk it again.

Since April of this year my friend, our friend Nam is in Ukraine, assisting in their war.
September 2nd is the last mail I received from him, unlike his last mail before it, he was over there with only 3wks to go, asked me to pray for him as he felt those last weeks were going to be his longest, and him being him, the NAM within the man had to throw a joke in of course, to lighten his mood and perhaps for me to worry less..... as if.

Not long ago I put out a request for a link, and thanks to a member, I received one handshake
but the thing is, unless I hear from Nam, I need to be searching every once in awhile and since I don't have the know how, could someone else from another end if possible, do the search for me???

Would really appreciate, if someone would.

A thought for Nam along with a prayer, he'll return home, safely.... teddybear

A Ho-Hum cloudy day

So dark and gloomy outside I have the lights on. The rain has passed, but the clouds linger. I am living dangerously. I have gotten tired of opening and closing the front door every 5 minutes to let one or both cats in or out. So I have propped the door wide open and am trying to ignore the small sounds coming from other rooms. Could be the cats, could be a snake or a fox. Schrodinger's rule. It is all those things until I get up to look. Maybe it is a topless Playboy model. Maybe I should go look?

Nah, just one of the cats. He saw me and with a guilty expression scooted back outside. Sigh. Now I have to check and make sure he wasn't hiding half a baby rabbit or some other such valuable treasure under the bed. I took inventory last night of stuff in my basement then googled some of the finds. I decided many things I have had for decades can go away now. Although I had thought they might, ,some of our more expensive purchases did not appreciate in value. Indeed I learn with a little googling many dropped enormously in value the longer I kept them.

A 1963 Johnson 3 HP outboard 2 cycle motor. Bought new by my grandfather and used on his 12 foot rowboat for flounder fishing often with me along, long, long ago.

My old US Divers Co. Navy MK I SCUBA tank (with J valve) and backpack. Used only a few times in the early 70s and early 80s it gave me trouble free performance.

A Schwinn 1973 Continental woman's 10 Speed bike. Manufactured in the USA. My wife's. Once upon a time, when it was new, she used it for commuting when she lived only a few blocks from OPM. She continued to ride it until about a year before her passing.

A Schwinn 1995 centennial woman's Cruiser bike. Only one speed. As soon as they came out, wife decided she had to have one. I have no idea why. I don't believe she ever rode it after getting it home. If I was female I would stick a small motor on it. Or add gears, but I certainly wouldn't want a bike with no gears in this hilly area.

My Mother's Zephyr TriStar. A 3 speed tricycle for adults. Ideal for a senior citizen living in an area with paved roads who wants to do some grocery shopping or still scoot around town after his/her driver's license is revoked. In theory anyway. In actuality I think Mom used it only one time, then decided bike pedaling was no fun compared to the convenience of having me do her grocery shopping for her. If I was a decade older I would stick a motor on it. It has the brackets for mounting one and I really don't understand why she didn't get one with the motor already installed.

I learned yesterday most of these things have declined in value to less than 1/3 of the value of their original purchase price. Together they eat a fair amount of basement floor space. Today, all of them went on Craigslist at about $200 each. LoL the Johnson motor cost just about that when new, so at least it breaks even. Of course in real dollars, it lost a lot of value. $200 was a lot more money in 1963.

Hmm, the other cat just poked his head in, looked at me and ran back to the front door. I really should just close the door I think.

Is Fake the true danger?

We have all heard of ‘fake’ people on dating sites. Who are they really?

Are they the ones who put up a profile with no pic, who have a bit of fun (either with people or against them) then take down their profile, or be banned, and within days have a new one up, different name but same MO?

Or are they the ones who have a proper profile & a real pic? One of the ‘regulars’.
One who tells you their life story, albeit in dribs and drabs.
They may share personal details, often garnering people’s sympathy. Especially from the opposite gender. Soft people always fall for the sob-story.

They could act quite prissy at times. Looking down on others who may speak openly about matters related to sex. They may openly condemn them and act as the more virtuous person. They may constantly let people believe they are a step above the norm.

Behind the scenes is a different matter. They are intent on getting their claws into a man, a man they deem worthy of them.
They may get chatting to some of the nicer, or more vulnerable people. These are the easiest to manipulate. And boy do they manipulate.

They try to get as much personal information from the person as possible – this will be used at a later stage.
They, contrary to their public image, want to engage in online-sex early in the relationship. They badger the other person to do it, possibly goading them by saying that their genitals aren’t up to standard if they don’t want to comply.

If the other person doesn’t play ball, things quickly turn ugly.
Threats of blackmail soon follow – threats of exposing private details on the public arena. The constant emails, messages and the stalking.

Nobody turns them down! They are the greatest gift mankind has ever received. They do the choosing. They do the rejecting.
The fires of hell are unleashed on anybody who thinks they can take that away from them.

Some may call them narcissists; some egoists; some entertainers or some even call them victims,

I call them dangerous.

So, next time we are thinking fake, maybe we should look beyond the multi-profile messers & scammers, and into the world of the delusional and downright dangerous.

This man can not be bought, there isn't enough money to do so, in any event why would he need to be dunno these few old families have had complete control for years, under the current system of election for office in the west candidates have to campaign, this costs millions, they don't have that kind of money to throw around, so from the time they first join a political party they will have been watched, like a secret service looks to turn enemies into double agents, the more corrupt, sexually deviant the better, more to hold over them, their career in politics will have been carefully nurtured and every crime duly logged for later use, when the time is right they will be pushed forward to be the new puppet, to enact whatever plan their master has in mind for them, when their time in office is done they'll be rewarded, do you really think banks would pay millions for an old has been politician to give speeches laugh just a way of accounting for their payment for services rendered.

We need untouchable politicians, assuming we don't want to go down the communist route, which has always led to a system just as corrupt, so until we can come up a way finding such people imo our best hope is people with enough money that buying them isn't easy as falling off a log.

The E. Jean Carroll case...

This deserves a blog of it's own. Back in the 1990's Carroll claims Donald Trump raped her in a famous New York City department store. Trump denied her allegation. He said she's not his type.
I read she kept the garment she was wearing that has his sperm on it and a DNA test would be conclusive. I also read the court isn't allowing the test.
There's a second issue of defamation where he's being sued by Carroll based on disparaging comments he made in response to her accusation.

Trump's lawyers tried and failed to get both cases dismissed.

Over the years, he's been accused of rape several times, but none of them stuck. I recall one woman backed out before the trial due to death threats.

Another woman came forward and the situation was different. Either Trump or one of his lawyers made a clarification or comparison, but that only sounded like he was part of both and the women weren't lying.

So the man who's in court over business fraud, indirectly paying a porn star hush money, a boasting womanizer with a history of affairs while married, had partied with Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell is teetering over a rape case that may actually lean in Carroll's favor. He would be found guilty of s*xual assault. Convicted Rapists in Florida are on a list and their movements are often restricted.

Blogs don't ask questions.... what are your thoughts?
