Lament for a C/S Poetess.

How bleak the fells and valleys seem today,
The lakes and tarns reflect a sombre sky,
A windswept woodland leans to bow and pray,
As laden gloomy clouds begin to cry.

A Summer Willow weeps Christina's loss,
And prematurely sheds an Autumn leaf,
The shadows of its branches form a cross,
To bless her mourning kindred lost in grief.

But she forevermore will linger nigh,
Her laughter heard in streams among the dales,
Or when some light breeze yields a lonely sigh,
Soft raindrops are her footsteps on the trails.

Fond memories her legacy imparts,
Embedded for all time in minds and hearts.

About this poem:
This is written in memory of Christina.... ( Pseudonym Odette67), a C/S Poetess who graced this corner for years with special poetry and honest critique. She lived in the beautiful Lake District in Cumbria, England and passed away earlier this year. Her favourite poetry form was a Sonnet so this one is for you Dear Christina. Sleep soundly with the Angels..we'll see you on the other side.

Sonnet #16

But wherefore do not you a mightier way
Make war upon this bloody tyrant, Time?
And fortify yourself in your decay
With means more blessed than my barren rhyme?
Now stand you on the top of happy hours,
And many maiden gardens yet unset
With virtuous wish would bear your living flowers,
Much liker than your painted counterfeit:
So should the lines of life that life repair,
Which this, Time's pencil, or my pupil pen,
Neither in inward worth nor outward fair,
Can make you live yourself in eyes of men.
To give away yourself keeps yourself still,
And you must live, drawn by your own sweet skill.

Sonnet #17

Who will believe my verse in time to come,
If it were fill'd with your most high deserts?
Though yet, heaven knows, it is but as a tomb
Which hides your life and shows not half your parts.
If I could write the beauty of your eyes
And in fresh numbers number all your graces,
The age to come would say 'This poet lies:
Such heavenly touches ne'er touch'd earthly faces.'
So should my papers yellow'd with their age
Be scorn'd like old men of less truth than tongue,
And your true rights be term'd a poet's rage
And stretched metre of an antique song:
But were some child of yours alive that time,
You should live twice; in it and in my rhyme.

About this poem:
In the earlier sonnets, the poet's main concern was to persuade the youth to marry and reproduce his beauty in the creation of a child. That purpose changes here in Sonnet 17, in which the poet fears that his praise will be remembered merely as a "poet's rage" that falsely gave the youth more beauty than the youth actually possessed, thus expressing an insecurity about his poetic creations that began in the preceding sonnet.

This disparaging tone concerning the sonnets is most evident in line 3, in which the poet characterizes his poetry as a "tomb." Such death imagery is appropriate given the frequent incorporation of time, death, and decay images throughout the first seventeen sonnets. Ironically, the poet, who has been so concerned about the young man's leaving behind a legacy at death to remind others of his priceless beauty, is now worried about his own future reputation. Will his poems be ridiculed by readers who disbelieve the poet's laudatory praise of the young man's beauty? Not, says the poet, if the youth has a child by which people can then compare the poet's descriptions of the youth's beauty to the beauty of the youth's child — now asking the youth to have a child in order to confirm the poet's worthiness.

The sonnet's concluding couplet links s*xual procreation and versification as parallel activities: "But were some child of yours alive that time, / You should live twice — in it and in my rime." The poet's task is an endless struggle against time, whose destructive purpose can only be frustrated by the creation of fresh beauty or art, which holds life suspended.

XXII.

My glass shall not persuade me I am old,
So long as youth and thou are of one date;
But when in thee time's furrows I behold,
Then look I death my days should expiate.
For all that beauty that doth cover thee
Is but the seemly raiment of my heart,
Which in thy breast doth live, as thine in me:
How can I then be elder than thou art?
O, therefore, love, be of thyself so wary
As I, not for myself, but for thee will;
Bearing thy heart, which I will keep so chary
As tender nurse her babe from faring ill.
Presume not on thy heart when mine is slain;
Thou gavest me thine, not to give back again.

Circle of Life... Socrates Challenge.

Birth, Growth, Maturation, Reproduction, Decay, Death.

~ A Sonnet.~

Of all the magic moments on this earth,
Our lives so blessed with wonders that are rife,
And surely none more wondrous than child birth,
To witness the beginning of new life.

All doting parents watch their babies thrive,
They teach them to stay safe and feel secure,
To pass on good life lessons they contrive,
A labour of pure love 'till they're mature.

They'll then find love and marry their soul mate,
And share a home with God as the mainstay,
Where they can build on dreams and procreate,
Before their wheels of life start to decay.

May love and warmth sustain them when they're old,
Then death some day will serve their last meal cold.

Sweet Lady of the Lakes and Fells

Dear muse, I penned this verse with feather quill,
To gently praise your beauty of renown,
My words to float aloft your gaze until,
They softly kiss your eyes like thistledown.

One single thought of you is all I need,
Pure beams of gold to light my dulling day,
A gorgeous wildflower peers from tangled weed,
And paints a splash of colour to my grey.

My lonely shadow drapes this em'rald shore,
With somber heart I yearn your close embrace,
Between us how wild stormy waters roar,
Such tempest I would brave to touch your face.

Fond kisses blown on gentle winds your way,
Warm breezes seek wherein the fells you stray.

Earth, Sea and Sky

Whether you believe in evolution
Or perhaps you believe in creation
All living things that dwell on Mother Earth
Are obligated to her for their birth

And what about the magnificent Sea
Where all the life forms there exist freely
Through the clouds, Sea supplies Earth with water
Which living things need to grow and prosper

Sky houses the clouds which provide the rain
That falls on the Earth again and again
The setting sun lights the sky brilliantly
Creating a scene of wondrous beauty

Earth, Sea and Sky exist in harmony
Comprising a glorious Trinity

Connection to Nature

I am connected to Nature
And Nature is connected to me
From the tiniest insect
To the largest tree
From creatures in the deepest ocean
To those on top the highest mountain
From the tiniest ant
To the largest elephant
The tree takes in what I exhale
And returns to me what I inhale
I consume as food, plant life from the earth
After I die, on my remains they will feed
I am connected to Nature
And Nature is connected to me

Little Apples will grow Again

Nature. Where the growth formula lends its hand. The internal reflection of the root dynamic expresses itself and shares the mirror image as they blossom. When the acceptance root sprouts itself the mind no longer retreats. The journey seems possible again for the seeds to fruitfully develop through nature’s way. For little Apples will grow again.

Winged Horses

Casual will dust fill corners of the mind
Wait still as spiders suspended in time
Keeping open the eyes so love’s not blind
While the heart jumps high over The Sublime

Always wear in the world that youthful smile
Rein in and up lips with those blushing cheeks
Happiness is that which lasts for awhile
Hearty laughter switch with excited shrieks

Make everyday be more adventure glossed
Such no real love would ever compromise
For love’s true seekers never become lost
As portals of time look through dreaming eyes

The day has arrived when beating hearts jump
Flies like Pegasus over Chimera’s stump
