RE: Early retirement?

Early retirement ... nah, not a good move

1) as you already found out, without structure your day drags and you soon get bored and tired

2) If you have indeed become a workaholic you'll not have much by way of things that interest you ... so y'll be more bored everyday than just this morning

3) It sounds fabulous I know, but when you combine fixed income with the increased cost of 'entertaining yourself' not to mention that boredom is a huge stress on the system and leads to more doctor visits, maybe even a collapse in mental health ...

RE: Help me! My former girlfriend pursues me on dating sites

The only hard thing to believe is this thread ...

Surely everyone must know by now that it's unwise to give attention to attention seekers?

If the XGF is indeed behaving as you say ... wow, she must really be thrilled by this thread ... ignore here entirely and she'll burnout soon enough!

Why worry ... be happy!

RE: Limbaugh: American flag next target to come down

Yeah ... Daisy Duke for President of the jolly ole US of A

Better idea than Granny Clinton or any those other good 'ole bois!

I had to laugh when I saw some of them including Granny C on TV the other night. Every single one of them has been involved to some degree in screwing over 'everyday americans' and now they're all pretending to the guardian and champion of same?

RE: Asking help from anyone familiar with psychology, behaviors, etc...

As usual there's always a lotta people ready to diss this individual based upon too little information ( and that's no disrespect to the TA who always seems fair minded so far I've seen )

Sometimes a person who's endured loneliness or some sort of loss will make 'too much effort' to be the 'hail fellow well met' and displays a tad too much 'bon homie' ... he (or she) just wants to be liked and to get along with everyone.

That he apologised ... might show that he has some degree of self awareness concerning his own conduct?

How do you deal with such people ... yer old enough not to need ask eh :-)

Basically - you take 'em as they are, you don't ever confide in them and you don't rely on them, you don't place too much importance on what they say,eh ... and if you need to, you just give em a friendly wave from your side of the wide berth!

Like dozens of people on here you just shrug and realise 'That's just Jack being Jack'

On the other hand, and again it's no criticism just observation ... could it be that you were over-enthusiastic early on and feel disappointed that this dude isn't meeting your (high) expectations?

Don't fret on it ... this too will pass !

cheers

OFFICIALLY Closed ... but in fact rolling on unchecked !

RE: What do you think about a man who don't like to work hoping to be maintained by a woman?

What a very interesting reply !

What I'd say to your face concerning that reply is this:

How would the fact I, in offering MY opinion (ie that true friends don't attempt to rule other people's lives) have any bearing on, or relate to any opinion I might have formed as to your having any sense ?

And, had you spoken as you wrote I;d be asking 'Can you say that again ... didn't really make a lot of sense, just incoming noise'

RE: How often have you arranged a date only to find out that the picture put up is at least 5 years old?

I suspect most women lie about their age, I don;t about men as I never date them!

Perhaps the issue is that net dating has such an abysmal 'genuine' success rate that the majority no longer think that what they say matters because 'Nothing is likely to ever come of any meeting in any case?'

I don't 'know' that that's the answer, its just speculation with a strong bias of personal observation.

Funniest / widest gap meeting ... several years ago the lady in question was ten years older than her real age but posted a current photo. But yanno how it is, especially when you're getting along well over that coffee, talk spreads far and wide, subject of children arises (and grandchildren when yer old enough)

I made the connection between HER age and her eldest daughters age and (keeping a very serious concerned face on for show) I said .. amazing, to have your first daughter at just eight years old !

We remain friends to this day ... on a nonromantic basis !

RE: What do you think about a man who don't like to work hoping to be maintained by a woman?

That reply really made no sense ... what do you mean by 'this hits home for me'

Yes, having and being a great friend is a blessing ... but TRUE friends do not try to run the other person's life !

RE: What do you think about a man who don't like to work hoping to be maintained by a woman?

I think that 'What I think' has a much bearing on the situation as what you think.

In short it's absolutely none of my business, just as it's absolutely none of yours either.

He may be many things, and it's not really your place to judge him (or anyone else eh?)

Keep thinking tis way and very soon you'll be mouring the loss of your best school friend ... and OF COURSE if that happens YOU will be BLAMING HIM for that loss!

RE: Minnesota Muslims brutally honest: 'We want Shariah'

Intersting eh ... that JED Bush is in the running to be your next PM.

Remind me, where was the evidence that Iraq was involved in 9/11 ... I mean, 9/11 WAS the reason put forward for bombing the crap outta Iraq - wasn't it?

Or, perhaps it's true, that the USA Stockpile of Depleted Uranium Tipped Munitions that were approaching and past there sell by date needed to be dumped 'somewhere' and it was goping to cost trillions of dollars to dispose of them safely in the USA ?

Double whammy ... huge fireworks party in someone elses backyard, wreck their place, make billions for US Private Military Contractors, increase the wealth of Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld (and their buddies) AND save trillions on the safe disposal of the DUTMs !!!!

RE: religious differences

That rather sounds like you've given up on your own responsibilty to learn ?

Leaving someone else (those involved in science) to tell you 'How it is'

That isn't ever going to work, as it can't.

Science, by design, sets out only to examine (increasingly) small slivers of 'all that is' and then to prove, by a minimal number of repetitions under tightly controlled conditions that it is correct...

Sadly, science also tends to be corrupt truth ... anything contrary to the vested interests of those 'in science' tends to be deeply buried !

RE: Minnesota Muslims brutally honest: 'We want Shariah'

Arapaho ...

In the UK a conservative MP Enoch Powell stood against the Race Relations Act (RRA)- he pointed out that the Act as presented (and subsequently passed) would give immigrants a whole raft of rights over and above those enjoyed by the 'native population'

At one point, in a speech he gave, he suggested that there might be 'rivers of blood' flowing in the UK ... well, not quite rivers, but the UK has certainly seen its share or race riots and other conflict.

Some years later those of the Labour Party who promoted the RRA openly accepted that it had been a huge social experiment based upon fluffy ideas such as found in popular songs of the day ( Ebony and Ivory, All we need is a great big melting pot ... and etc )

It seems that they now have all the benefit of hindsight - but then politicians are tragically bereft of ANY foresight at all!

The dificulty isn't 'race' ... there's two problems (at least)

The first biggie is 'culture' and for that I use the simplest definition 'how it is amongst any given group of people' so, mid west USA culture is different to NY and LA. If some great tragedy resulted in a huge hole in the MW then of course there'd be conflicts arising as displaced people (of whatever race) moved into LA (as most prob would)

The second biggie might be 'rate of change' ... 'culture' (or 'how it is' ) takes a long time to become established ... and govts have inflicted over rapid change. The native / established population don't want change - it's the loss of what THEY know and are comfortable with: but then the incoming migrants don't want to lose THEIR culture either - which is understandable too!

Add to the mix that (very often) there's a whole buinch of different languages involved and it's hardly a surprise that problems appear ...

I see much of the Bible as 'metaphor' and in this case the example of the Tower of Babel might be relevant ... so many people talking and no one knows what the next person is saying?

Biggie No 3 ... the curse of so called 'political correctness' which inhibits 'ordinary people' from having their say ...as they're afraid of the consequences of using a 'bad word' or prohibitted phrase !

I don't have a solution ... just I can see 'some of the probs'

Funny thing though ... I sit in the sauna on Sunday afternoon with men from all over the world, we talk about these things openly and (so far) none of us have killed any of the others !

maybe the problem is government ?

I really don;t know - maybe they get a chuckle out of the arrogance in some profiles ?

As for not responding to messages - I suppose that depends upon the content and tone of the message.

Personally, I usually respond to all, but there have been odd occasions when I just think 'REALLY - She cannot be serious ...'

RE: Moving to Asia to find love

My tencents worth ...

It sounds like right now you're possibly suffering 'Empty Nest Syndrome' That usually something that BOTH parents experience together when their kids leave, but I can tell you that a lot of separated / divorced guys suffer too. And, arguably it may be worse as we don't have their mother to talk to.

Add to that that guys tend to have fewer friends / smaller circle and it's easy to see how 'Looking elsewhere for a new life' might sound attractivee...

But there'a a number of issues - and I'm not being negative' here! It's my sincere belief that anyone can achieve anything if they think it through in advance, and get accurate 'data' and 'reality' of the place / people.

You could have a whole new lease life if you do it right ... or end up very lonely and broke if you get it far wrong!

Lood Guck ;)

RE: Misfits v mental illness

No shortage of eejits in the world Peach, and (I strongly suspect) there's a huge raft of people in the world floating around with 'over diagnosed' alleged mental illnesses.

Psychiatry and 'approved drug' pushing is a huge and legitimate business, probably the biggest industry in the world ?

Why ... well, we're no longer a tolerant society are we?

And, not a lotta people know that 'TOLERANCE' is itself a marker, perhaps the best marker, of sanity.

When people can't tolerate 'simple, everyday things that they themselves once did' we know it's a downhill slop!

For example - people who can't tolerate the sound of a bay crying, ALL of us once were baies, and others had to tolerate us at our worst day!

ACADEMIA makes matters worse too ... once the Village Eekit would find some sort of work, sweeping streets, mending roads, washing cars at the local garage. But now 'if you don't have CERTIFICATES ' you don't get looked at for a job eh!

I was lucky ... lived in a village where the two eejits were kindly regarded and people kept an eye out for them. Then council decided 250 new houses would be good ... and the poor ole eejits ended up being hounded by police (on account of complaints from the newcomers) for doing what they'd always done ...

I was supposed to keep this $250,000 Connecting Singles Award a Secret from you all

But being as it has to be the most obvious scam I thought I'd share

Who else has had this ?

RE: long distance love.....lady leaving alone....to meet....help

The bigger questions perhaps might centre around

a) Your entitlement to remain in the USA

b) Your personal safety in a situation where you have no friends and no social backup - in a city you may well be able to find some sort of Indian Cultural group or temple, but if you were to live ina remote region then yer preddy much 'on your own' eh?

It would make far more sense for you to have him come to India ... that way he can gain some grasp of YOUR culture ( I'm sorry but most americans really havent a clue that other cultures exist - just as the majority from inland states have never even seen the sea! )

If he can't afford to, or will not travel to India and 'take you back with him' then my best guess is that he's expecting you to be a golden egg.

Another possibility would be that you could be set up as drug mule or involved into some other racket.

Then there's the airport no show ... ie he doesn't show up and some 'friendly person' see you in distress and takes you under their wing ... for which of course you're expected to be generous

ps if he sends you money to buy your airfare then asks for some it back ... then that also is a well known scam!

pps OK, maybe this sounds negative to some of you but don't tell me that these (and far worse) things haven't happened to scores of other men and women across the world. NOTHING on the net is REAL - especially not declaratuions of love to persons never met in real life!

Where's the best place in the world to retire to ...

Cheers all ... some interesting thoughts from y'all !

That idea of house swapping for the seasons sounds interesting or maybe even some sort of 'lodging swaps' deal with new friends who were open to the idea?

I guess people would wanna know one another by email / skype or similar ?

Would people from warmer climates want to trade their places with someone who was having their cold season?

Discuss the idea here ... or does it need a different thread?

Hex

cheers to you all!

Where's the best place in the world to retire to ...

in terms of climate, quality of life, low cost of living, gentle taxation regimes and access to 'the usual facilities' or most of them that we've become accustomed to in the west ?

Oh yes ... and of course Friendly Natives are essential !

Where can you live to have the most life for your money ?

RE: Do you still believe Michael Jackson is innocence from child abusing?

It really does actually and had he been YOUR son, I'm sure you would think very differently.

So much of our present culture is based upon the assumption that certain events were 'as told in the official story lines' and, as time goes by it becomes more and more plain that we've been told lies and strung along by official sources.

So far as a man's innocence is concerned ... it's really very important that innocence be protected and upheld.

Look at the court dates and media coverage of the events leading to the Jackson arrest, trial and look then at the timeline of US Govt events ... it's quite plain that Jackson was used as a distraction while the US Govt lessened the liberty and rights of it's citizens.

RE: Why when you write women, why do they not write back?

My answer is simple and to the point without humour or sarcasm ...

No matter how well crafted you initial approach letter it's really nothing more than direct marketing. In those terms it's an unsolicited approach / offering to a cold prospect and at very best it probably has a 2% chance of success.

Which means of course that it has a 98% likelihood of being ignored!

Now, let me ask YOU Mr Flame, if you get a flyer in your mailbox from a plumber, gardener, double glazing company, lawn mowing company, real estate agent (or anyone else) and YOU 'have no interest' do YOU ring the business who sent the flyer and say 'Thanks but no thanks?'

And, if you don't ... well, why on earth would you expect anyone else to respond any differently to your 'flyers' ?

Tis really that simple!

The 'paid membership sites' are no different in this respect and I disagree that there's any element of 'hurry to find someone before my membership runs out' and there are NO paid sites that place any length on a person's term of membership ... rather the opposite, they hope you join and remain with them forever!

OMG ... you actually though dating site owners wanted you to find a long term partner?

RE: Prove To Me, God Exists

Interesting then so many scientists are searching for The God particle, or The God Gland in humans...

But anyway, science is only fashion, and like fashion it's self-debunking, yesterdays news when tomorrow comes!

It can't even explain the nature of life, it can't do anything realistic against death, and if REALLY were any use it would at least have conquered taxes!

RE: How do you select your friends and how do they choose you?

Here in NZ ( The Foundation Nation of Nanny Statism and Social Engineering Lab for the Eurozone) there's a lot of discussion about this and, at the moment the favoured option seems to be a State Lottery.

Everyone over 18 will be entered and it seems we'll be allocated a circle of friends by Big Brother... and there's to be ongoing assessment and exams at the end of each year!

You'll be graded in the National Certificate of Educational Acheivement (NCEA) from

NCEA not yet achieved ( aka antisocial and /or useless as a friend )

NCEA Level Seven ( terrific friend, bound always to be in great demand )

There's also to be Career Opportunities as a Govt Sponsored SuperFriend and Mentor!

The computer will calculate your impact on others in the allocated circles and, if after 3 years of assessment it finds that you presence in a circle of people (which varied annually remember) is generally positive and uplifting then you'll be awarded the the title of 'SuperFriend' (in much the same way as certain school principals have been awarded 'Super Principal' status and are 'used' by the government to sort out troublesome or failing schools ...

You'll be added to a circle of 'low achievers' and your SuperFriendship will be the vehicle by which turkeys are turned into eagles and soar!

But to speak directly to the TA, if I may

Yes, sometimes it IS an effort to keep in touch with our friends, and to make the effort to attend, maybe especially when we are single and feeling alone, bluesy... we don't have that 'other half' to encourage or even push or remind us of our duty to friends and the need to reciprocate eh?

But on our own we need to keep in mind that they (our friends) also sometimes feel the same and have still rallied to our sides (and usually we and they all felt better for the effort eh !)

APATHY though is the great killer of spirit and friendship ... if we turn down several (as fews as two sometimes) invitations then the friend will 'assume that they offended you somehow' and will cease inviting ... NO ONE likes to be rejected and refusing begins to look like rejection!

Stay safe n well and 'head up ...' It works !!!!!

:-)
