THE PERSIAN PETARD

In a Tehran hotel I asked for a room
“a small one if possible please”
A young man with keys escorted me up
a couple of flights selected a door and went in

He told me the price and concealing my shock
I decided on saving my face
by requesting ‘a smaller one still’
Off we went up and selected another

He ushered me in and asked me if this one would do
I said that it would and holding my breath
I asked him the price
“The same as the other” he pleasantly said

I swallowed my pride laboriously squeezing out the words
“and cheaper?” to which he replied “Certainly: this one, sir.”
Later viewing all from my lofty vista I reflected on
'the humiliation of the hoisted’.

CREDULIBILITY

l am informed that our sun’s
journey will take umpteen
to-the-power-of-umpteen millennia to
reach the ‘constellation of Hercules’
which will have departed
long before I get there

I learned this from a monkey

You question my sanity?
That’s a coincidence
because frankly
I doubted the monkey’s also.

SAFE CONFESSION

Hear the greatest cretin in existence
who has taught himself

Want not Have
Purpose not Gratitude

who has longed for
Other not Here
Then not Now

who has betrayed principles
concocted artifices
instigated machinations
contrived ambushes

and

ah and…

unfortunately for him
he can forever depend
upon his vast reservoir
of ‘explanations’
to absolve him.

Bid you adieu, so blue, but on cue, and was due, like an emu, so few, but it grew, a fine hue, for an interview, with a Jew, at Kew, in lieu, of a moo, so new, this overview, of a pew, in a queue, so renew, and stew, so true, but undue, this view, that would woo, some Xu, paid to you, at the Vietnamese zoo.

Yvonne poem

I felt YOU in my heart, I was lost in space, not connected to the human race, you were there, to help me through, though, I didn't know then I was connected to you, that's just in my memory now, your strength and your beauty, your'e wonderful way of living, your selfless being, and your'r perfect way of giving, so, when its over, if I am the last one to leave, there is only one thing I want to say, I will always remember us this way. xx

See the Sea

lost in the immeasurable sea
enclosed under sunken cofferdams
tossed endlessly we listed to and fro
prisoner passengers in fleets of
slave ships on odyssey journeys

the cargo of life drained out slowly
in swarms of unseaworthy vessels
as the tempestuous rains stormed
carrying us away to unknown shores
we cried out for freedom as the words
fell silently upon windblown sands
we still waited patiently for a parting
to begin again on horizons more calm

alas, we were awash in shameful tragedy
while we slowly gasped for purifying air
and penetrating clarity only seeing
white capped smoke spraying ashen pyre

suddenly under the calm night sky washed in moonlight
the distant beacon casting illuminating shadows revealed
a hidden gateway moored just beyond comber waves
portals opened awakening a witnessing to the deep
exposing all the crevasses of enduring love then
freedom was spilled into the tidal flow of memories
and we began to open our hearts and eyes to
see the sea

THE WORD

I am The Word
that pens the eye
that views the void
that hems the sky
that spawns the soil
that yields the one
who kens
the World
I am

the Dude abides, with his bride, who both cried, the day the cycle died, straight out fried, the Electra Glide, had to hide, from those who lied, for sake of pride, and ditch the ride, over the side, into the tide, deep and wide.

About this poem:
Competition, who can write the longest sequence of rhyme using only one entry per time per letter in the alphabet. e.g. collide and cried is not allowed, just use one. I got through 13/26 letters in this one. Wonder if at, bat, cat could go more? Over to you if you can beat 13..

SIDEWARDS

I once kept a crab as a pet
but had not yet chosen its name
I wished to teach it how to speak
or at least emit a small squeak

So finally we got to chat!
I questioned it: “do you in fact,
move yourself sideways or forwards?”
Quoth it, “manifestly FORWARDS!”

I reflectively baptized it
“Progress”.

HOMELESS ORPHAN

Tomorrow
ever full of hope
can never be

for it has no place on earth
yet dwells somewhere
‘twixt dream and expectation

It has no being
to call its own
