Concierto de Aranjuez

A seafood risotto
mussels, mushrooms, a little salt
I'm pouring a little Cabernet
listening to Chet Baker and Paul Desmond
on Jim Hall's album Concierto
the tune Concierto de Aranjuez
if you haven't already
do it tonight
do it for your soul
don't let life slip by
without at least one listen
masterful

who turns the earth?

The sky is ragged
And stars
Got visible in the holes.
The smell of rain
Has become
The only perfume for your soul.
You are canning summer air
In jars
So that November
Could be slightly diluted
With joy of June,
With shooting stars of August,
The tender sea waves of July
And love of March and April.
You preserve your thoughts,
Dreams and feelings
To open all the jars
On the New Year"s eve.
So in a kaleidoscope of emotions
You are the one who turns the earth..

dark clouds

dark clouds
hovering in the sky
permeate my being
creating a state
of sombre calmness
deep within the core
of my psyche

unperturbed
by distractions
in the environment
I find tranquility
and peaceful serenity
in the innermost depths
of my being

my psychic energy
links with
the cosmic energy
underlying
the unity of all things
pervading space and time
inducing in me
feelings
supreme and sublime

I sense
some ultra dimension
an ocean of energy
to which the
life energy of
all living things return
after the last breath
is taken

Rain

rain is falling on the window pane
with a very pleasant refrain
that is soothing to my brain
it does not leave a stain
so it's not a pain
it stopped it's reign
once again
there's no
rain

Dear Santa

What do I want for Christmas?
End slavery in places like the Ivory Coast so my Reese's can be made
With people who are paid a livable wage with good working conditions
Get rid of the masks so don't have to breath in bad air
Give me some snow, it snowed a few times in November, but nothing yet in December
Get rid of drugs like meth so other families don't have to go broke
Make it so all nursing home residents get visits from their family members instead Of the pitiful four percent that do get a weekly visit
Make it so I don't have to be afraid when I go to work
Make people good so they don't harm others with their words or their actions
Make Biden step down so we can get a good president like Bernie Sanders
Give me the ability to hit a good consistent golf swing so I can join the PGA and get paid doing something I love
Make music as good now as it was in the 80's
Bring my dad and Michael Jackson back from the dead because I miss them
Make people be happy and well taken care of at all times in their lives
Give me a house so you can come down my chimney

About this poem:
I could go all day on this list of wishes from Santa, I wonder if he ever gets these, or it's just another cell phone or video game.

Oh My! Oh Me! Oh Wheee!

I was stunned when this story was told to me.
Let's call my narrator for today Cee.
This is no church but still her testimony...
Of finding love, happiness and true harmony.
And as my heart raced and danced glee.
She informed me not with one but with three.
Well now how do I respond? Golly Gee!
Me: Explain before I faint please this trilogy!
She: Loving one is pure agony.
Something was always missing with Mr. Lee.
He was lacking time and love but cash was free.
Then I met my wonderful Anthony.
He had no cash and knew nothing about love but had a wonderful D.
I fell for Francois quite accidentally.
But he makes me wetter than the damn sea.
Me: If this was an exam I would probably be graded E.
How does one accidentally fall in love, family?
She: Oh please do not give me the third degree!
Me: Sis you got them all without Lil ol Mee!
Loving one is agony? Loving three makes you a prodigy!
She: All I hear and see is jealousy.
I have no complains I am happy.
I just hope that none studies or practice criminology.
For now I am living this life with not one apology.

PANDEMIC

I wondered how many really died
Which politician really lied
I see our weaknesses magnified
As the death toll multiplied

I see a world brought to a halt
Everyone trying to pass the fault
As COVID made a giant somersault
Reminds me why Lot's wife turned to salt.

Leaders once dominating made unsure
Scientist scrambled about for a cure
Most of us hidden behind a closed door
Watching tv and/or trying to learn more

While the Essentials tried to be brave
Not properly equip as lives they save
Our loved one might be buried in a mass grave
No matter if it be owner or slave

Our heart rate is now only registered rapid.
The future to most just looks morbid
Lord for Goliath you sent mighty little David;
Please Lord what or whom are you sending for COVID!

a together time

when I awakened at daybreak, I first went outside
all about on the ground there was fresh fallen snow
I quickly gathered a new stack of wood for the fire
then headed back in the house and over to the stove
my body was still stiff from the day’s work before
but I started to limber as the flames became higher

as usual my mother had risen hours before
to be preparing the meal that would be served on this day
she was baking and sifting, back and forth ‘cross the floor
doing those things only she could, in her own special way

it’s thanksgiving at our house with family gathered ‘round
heads bow in silence as father offers the grace
at the head of the table set a place for our Lord
with somber gratitude of mother earth’s hallowed ground
as farmers we live in the balance of nature
we are thankful to them from whom all bounty has poured

no matter what the outcome
we are grateful for our harvest
as we have been, year after year
we are counting our blessings
for we still have one another
in health and that we hold so dear

thanksgiving at our house, the family is here
with our glasses all raised, let us toast in good cheer
.

Rose in a Thornstack

Balance...

Two sides of the same coin.
All points in a circle.

Synapses
and metaphorical bloods.

Come together...
Forged up- from will to hand
to remind me of the reason.

So find me-
Rarest, rawest form.

I have learned
to howl my marrow out.

I have learned to love the silence.

I am ready.
