RE: rationing rice in America

In the last 20 years, Haiti's rice production has fallen to just over what over 50% of what was produced 10 years prior (now about 99,000 tons). About 20 years ago they began to buy long cerneled 'Miami' rice from the US. The market likes this better than the short cerneled rice that is grown locally. In doing so, Hatian began not to plant and grow rice. Their fields and irrigations systems went into disrepair. Large scale rice farming operations were abandoned. Today they import about 400,000 ton from the US.

Then more recently with devaluation of the dollar and with rising prices on the fertilizer, the production level decreased even more.
With a devalued dollar, they cannot import as much. Because often it on a Foreign aid program that is giving them UDS dollar to buy thier
foods.

They going back to growing more and working on a reducing the import prices of the Miami rice.

If you follow those figures on rice. The best yield they had was 200,000 tons of rice in thier own production of 20 years ago. The US today is providing 2 times what they produced in thier best growing year. 4 time what they are producing today.

I need to jumb in some. This most recent Hatian issue was when someday 100s or other days 1000s of Haitian were getting into old wooden boats, filling them to the max, and trying to make a crossing to our shore. Literally 100s were dieing in attempting to make the crossing.

The US could have deployed a Naval flotilla and intercept them near our shores and sent them back....making this crossing a second deadly time. Or we could deploy near the Island and intercept them there. That is what did and do today even.

The reason they made the crossing was internal problems within country. Realizing that the only recourse is to act within the country.
Some was military and police operations....but most was judicial and social services programs were done inside Hati.

So while rice is a main food stable of Hati. The issues within Hati were
causing the problems there and here. I am glad you held off the rice and some poor 3rd world person was fed today. But the bigger issues of such mass human movement, that few seldom see these days are bigger than a box of rice.

The other time that the US deployed into Hati. Was when they were near to losing thier country to some very nasty people.....that promoted such things human sacrifice for religious ceremonies.

So again, while the rice you did not buy might save one person for one day time. These are bigger issues that you tend to avoid here and then paint the US as the bad guy in regard to Hati. We export a lot food all around the world.....wish a figure? 2007 US Agri exports $810b USD a little more than a box of rice.

But really the same troubles we have, you have and vice versa. Often the solutions are the same. And there are only so many of them out there that are realistic.

I tell you what......promise not to sponsor the US for the EU and we promise not to sponsor Ireland for NAFTA. But no reason down the road we cannot have some kind bi lateral trade accord between the two countries......we may even have that now.

It is why I refill my own ink cartridges. Is easy to....kits cost about the same as cartridge....and I have found ink as cheap as $1 for 3 oz.

OK have to admit I don't have a refinery in the backward for refining gas......

You a little person? Opal, if you are giving a introductory speach at the
DNC for Senator Obama...as you have said.....then you are inner circle. What the inner circle does and says goes right back to the canididate himself.

Hard packages in the mails (tomorrow) to campaign managers of both canididates with your post of today. For Barak campaign manager I ask the following.

1) Confirm your association with his campaign and
that you are a introductory speaker for him at
the DNC.

2) If you are associated with his campaign. To give comment
here in the post to if these are Barak Obama's
thoughts on Senator McCain, his war record, his
family life, any organized crime connections that
you aledge and other issues raised.

If I do not get such a reply either here or on Barak Obama campaign letterhead, I will take this public and let media ask the questions and make the connections.

From Senator McCain campaign manager, it is more a information package with the site info so they can monitor it and the thread some. But if they feel such does need to be addressed, they can post here as well or in the media as they choose. Fair enough?

Give them 10 days- 3 weeks to process it. And decide how they want to handle it. We should get some answers from the campaigns then for all here to read.

Thanks for the information, Opal. Now we get to find out if Senator
Obama shares them with a person that is going to be one of his
introductory speakers at the DNC.

I hope they are bonifide sources, Opal. If not, you might be canceling a
speaking engagement.

Any event, again thank you. The questions coming from your post will be asked to Senator Obama till the November election, now. It is always best in politics to have the opponet talking about your canidadate. Now he will have to do just that. This will keep him off message and off issue thru November as media and voters question him on it.

I am pretty sure that during WWII he was already an actor of repute in Hollywood. He did a serise of war time films to aid the war effort and the foreign theatre show circuit with Bob Hope and such.

When I lived in MI, we called all Hoosiers that, how do you delinated
one Hoosier goober from another Hoosier goober? We were very equal opportuntists with the term. When Jimmy C. got to be President, we were able to shift the moniker to anyone from GA. He owning goober farm.

But nice to see the term has been reinvented for my fine friends in IN!

At one time here in America, we had what was called the

"Good Old Boys Club of Government"

It went on from just after the WWI thru to mid 1970s, when most states passed 'open government laws'. Here in Florida our is called
the Sunshine Law, which bascially say Government officials have to
to thier business in a opne public forum. It is illegal for them to cut
'back room' deals. Cutting back room deals under the 'Good Old Boys
Club' was how roads got built, hospitals erected, utlities installed.
There was little transperancy to the contracting and to the process
of making such a decision. So was and is a pretty bad government
institution.

So here is the that few don't understand. Those laws only ability when the person is in office, not when they outside of office as Barak and
Hillary presently. In other workd for the coming DNC, back room deals
are still a very legit thing.

With PAs primary now in the dust, and with the race for nomination even tighter.....and likely headed to a floor fight at the DNC with 200-
300 uncommitted super deligates. Here is what is going to happen.

Those super deligates will make up a wish list of hospitals, roads,
utilities, airport expansion and other things that their district, city,
state needs. Each will have a cost beside it. At the convention in some
back room....a hotel room....a restraunt....that list will get passed to both Hillary camp and to Obama camp.

Now at the camps will circle the project that they can fund and accept
and line out the ones they cannot. Send a copy back to the super deligate or to the State Deligate manager. They will now look at what each side is will to give for thier vote and thier support. Compare who give the best deals if elected President in November.

It just the 'Good Old Boy' Way of doing business in Washington....that has been around since the last 90 years.

If either get into the Presidency at the end. Will have a list of IOUs to these Super Deligate and State Deligate manager to deliver on. A long list as this is so tight race that both wants to win badly. About the only thing might keep this from happening is they decide to team up, or they seat both FL and MI. Right now it is floor fight, floor fight, floor fight for them. And back room deals are the decision makers of floor fights.

So now with a lot of IOUs to deliver on, the new Dem President Adminsitration will be caught into a method of doing busiess that is not to 'change Washington'....but is going to be so very Washington of the 1920-30-40-50-60-70s.

The real deal here is this. If the Dem cannot government themselves in thier nomination process....ala....MI and FL deligate seating and in a open and fair manner....can one expect them to be able to govern a country of hard headed, stubborn, individualistic, and very lovable Americans in a fair and opne manner?

He has problems. He out spend her here 2 to 1 in advertising and lost.

They have him painted as a far left, and her strength is the moderates.

Welcome aboard Indy, a couple of new issues.

Muslim American Council say that John McCain should not use the
term "Islamic Terrorist". Say that is derrogatory to the world's 1.2
billion Muslims.

McCain via one of his Campaign managers, basically said.....you call a duck a duck and a Islamic Terrorists a Islamic Terrorists.

Nothing like a freedom of speech issue. I like how a American Muslim group that represents maybe 5 million American Muslim becomes the spokes piece for 1.2 billion. How they miss understand the Constitution and the rights it gives. Sure they understand the opinion of the 1.2 better than others.

But that 1.2 b is not under thier organization's banner. Also it is the Constitutions that give this group the freedom to make the request on McCain. They can use it, but he cannot?

A Russian tabloid broke the story a few days ago. And was closed for financial irregularities. As the editor exited the office, He says. "We prove again the Russia does not have democracy."

Dude, the New York Times breaks a similar story on John McCain....all smoke and no substance..... but every one is employed at the Times is still there. And the Times is still there.

I was going to let this pass. But decided not to.

Dude, I don't think that until you are a American, you have
the 'right', the 'standing' or the 'understanding' of what it
is to be an American Patriot.

You can call Micheal Moore a good man, a man that does
investigative reporting on critical issues, a man of world knowledge and ability and what ever far left adjectives you want. I don't
really care.

But you don't have the right, the standing, or the understanding
to call him a American Patriot. You may feel you know what these
are. But not ever stood to the flag of the United States, considered her
Constitution, thought on the words of Lincoln, Washington, Jefferson,
walked across Civil War battle fields, and mostly importantly taken an oath of alligiance......I don't think have the right to call this American a
patriot and this other American not one.

The concept of American Patriot comes from our Revolutionary days.
Its a title they use almost exclusively for each other....and
for the foriegn men that fought beside them. So unless you have those kinds of roots to that kind of history, even though you have been to the country and would maybe someday live here......you don't get the right yet of determining a who an American Patriot is.

Heck Dude, I did not even like Mel Gibson, using it his movie "Patriot'...
he is an Aussie. But he did play the role of a real American Patriot....so he gets pass. You don't.

To give Micheal Moore such a title without any standing on your part......would have many past American Patriots......taking you to
a field of honor for a duel.....one where only one walks away from.
They would challenge you and let you pick the weapon. It has happened many times and for much less in defense of the term
American Patriot. You say this is archic. Yes, so is the concept of
American Patriot. It has been around since 1776. That is very honestly how they defended the term then, with a duel to even till the American Civil war. More recectly, in the days of WWI and WWII....a solid fist fight. One where noses get broken. After that we have gotten pretty lax in defending the concept. Have let many slip by on it.

Micheal Moore has done nothing to the likes of the men mentioned here for the country. He does not yet qualify in my opinion for the title. Maybe he will. American Patriots are sometime made in a moment. Others in a life time.
