Officer McNulty

Hey!
You!
I'm here to scare the crap out of you!
Don't you like the drones?
Of course you don't!
What are you going to do about it?
Nothing!
That's what!
Cause it's 2014 and this is how it is in America
They pass stupid laws every year
They just keep piling up
Year after year you lose a little more freedom
Remember back in the 1900's when you didn't have to pay taxes?
Remember back in the 1980's when you could choose to wear a seat belt?
Just a few years ago car and health insurance weren't mandatory
You could get decent interest on your money you put in a bank
Heck you could go for a nice drive
And if you happened to go through a red light
There wasn't a camera to take your picture
Well I'm here to tell you
The good old days are gone!
I'm Officer McNulty
Not really here to protect and serve
Just here to harass and scare ya!

The Airplane Announcement

This is your captain speaking
We are flying at an altitude of 30,000 feet
If you are flying on the right side of the plane you will see Arizona
If you are flying on the left side of the plane you will see Mexico
A little about myself
I am 45 years old
I have never been married
I love the Packers and I have no idea what I'm doing
You see the actual pilot just had a heart attack and died
I was supposed to be paying attention in case he did die
But I didn't
I've been skating along for the last 10 years on his accomplishments
So I'm hoping that someone on this flight knows how to fly a plane
Otherwise we are screwed
I'm going to be doing my best to cope with this situation
I am going to get drunk
If anyone else would like to join me in my drunken stupor
The stewardess will be happy to assist you with you beverage needs
I prefer Scotch
But there are many alcoholic beverages to choose from
I would suggest you choose a hard liquor as we have limited time
Before we crash into a mountain or the ocean
This has been your pilot speaking
Hoping you enjoy the rest of your flight
Or whatever's left of it

About this poem:
Just pretending if I were a pilot and also hoping that the pilots on the flights I have had would have at least told me once in a while what I was seeing out the window.

Robin Williams

You dressed up like a woman
You made me laugh with your standup comedy
You yelled "Good Morning Vietnam!"
You were Mork
You told lies that gave people hope in Jacob the Liar
You were an inspiring teacher in Dead Poets Society
You poked fun at politics in Man of the Year
You showed the importance of laughter and kindness in Patch Adams
You left us almost two weeks ago
You were becoming ill
You have a song called The Grim Rapper
Those were the days my friend
We thought they'd never end
We'd sing and dance forever in a day
We'd live a life we'd choose
We'd fight and never lose
For we were young and sure to have our way

About this poem:
Just missing Robin Williams and all the new comedy he could have made in the future, there is certainly plenty of good work to choose from. He is definitely one of the best funny men of our times.

Haunting Thoughts

Witches on the wall
White headed grinning demon stooping over a chopping block
Chopped off heads in various stages of decomposition
Sister chopped into cubes by my angry father
If you don't shut up this will happen to you
Screams of agony in pitch black darkness
Trapped in hell
No hope to escape
Fathering a daughter I have to raise at home
It's your turn to change the diaper
Iraq
St. Louis police
Chimpanzee in a zoo
Robin Williams hanging from a door
These haunting thoughts
They occupy my dreams
They occupy my reality
I think it's time to day dream
Dream of something far happier
Far more peaceful
To go to a place where there is really love

Monsters

I'm afraid to leave my apartment
Those monsters are out there
Waiting to hurt me
Hurt my feelings mostly
Steal my money
Steal my peace
I see the drone flying over the hills
It steals my peace of a beautiful scene
God created this land
He made it beautiful
He made it pure
He made it peaceful
These monsters lurk at work
They lurk at my parents home
Sometimes they hide for awhile
Most of the time they don't
The ones with the badges and the lights on top of their cars
They are the worst
They were supposed to keep me safe
Provide me some comfort
Instead they are paid to bully good people
People talk about zombies
Why do we need to fantasize about them?
When we have so so many real monsters out there
Just waiting with evil grins
Waiting for their next victim

Car Repairs

Too much steering fluid
My car making noise when I turn
Soaking it up with paper towels
Calling my mechanic who sold me the car
Denying they did anything wrong
Are cars like people in health care?
They're just trying to get rich and have to push you through
They make more money the more people they see you see
Medical mistakes are the third leading cause of death in America
Greed trouble
Greed trouble
Everyone is looking out for #1
You and me and greed trouble
What's gonna become of all this greed trouble?

About this poem:
I knew if I called this mechanic he wouldn't say he was sorry or offer any apology, but I had to at least let him know it really ticked me off that they would treat me so shabbily. I don't know much about cars, but I learned this one from a neighbor who works on cars, if it makes noise when you turn, check the steering fluid, and don't overfill it or underfill it, or you will hear a squeaky noise.

Conscience

You never leave me alone
You dog me every day
My conscience
You should stop drinking pop
You need to exercise more
Stop eating meat and eat peanuts instead
You need to call you mother and eat supper with her
You need to give blood
You should get a safer job
Clean your floor!
Quit being so shy!
Get married and make some babies!
Volunteer at a food bank
Give money to starving kids in Africa
Why don't you take a vacation conscience
Why don't you leave me alone so I can enjoy some peace
But you stay
You never leave
I can't shut you up
Ever!
My conscience

About this poem:
I saw a twilight zone episode where this guy is talking to himself in the mirror. The good conscience wins and gets out of the mirror and quits his job as a member of the mob and goes to get a job and a wife.

About this poem:
My birthday is coming up so I was looking back from my birth in 1969 to the end of my favorite decade of music, the 80's. The only song I'm not a fan of is The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face. If I were forced to pick my favorite from the list it would be When Doves Cry by Prince, with Every Breath You Take by The Police being a close second. Right now my favorite album is Weird Al's new album Mandatory Fun. He is a parody artist and I own all 14 of his albums.

Friends in High Places

Blame it all on my roots
I showed up in a suit
And ruined your laid back affair
Last one to know
Last one to show
I was the last one you'd thought you'd see there
And I saw the surprise
And the fear in his eyes
When I took his glass of Budwieser
I toasted you
Said Honey we may be through
But you'll never hear me complain
Cause I got friends in high places
Where the champagne drowns and wine chases my blues away
And I'll be ok
Well I'm pretty big on social graces
Think I'll slip on down to the Bahamas
Oh I've got friends in high places
Well I guess I was wrong I just don't belong
But then I've been there before
Everything's alright
I'll just say goodnight
And I'll show myself to the door
Hey I didn't mean to cause a big scene
Just give me an hour and then
Well you'll be as high as that ivory tower that I'm living in!

Michael Jackson: 5 years

It was five years ago that you died
I can't believe they lied
Told a bunch of very hurtful lies
It brought unneeded tears to my eyes
All the love that you brought
Still they made sure you got caught
I will listen to your music forever
Hate that we all can't love together
Enjoying the music you made
All the awesome songs that made the grade
Thriller, Billie Jean, and Black or White too
Just too many are awesome to name just a few
I love you Michael as you wait in heaven
Just know that I thank you for all the love you have given

July Third

I think of all the wrong that is done in the name of freedom
90 million dead Indians
Three million dead Vietnamese
600,000 dead soldiers in the Civil War
57,000 dead Vietnam War soldiers
Over a million dead Iraq citizens
Countless millions dead during World War I and II
Stealing oil
Stealing land
PTSD
Homeless veterans
Unpunished criminal military atrocities like rape and murder
Friendly fire
Nameless victims
Decorated soldiers
Unfair justice
Countless tombstones all in white

About this poem:
Just got done watching a documentary about rape in the military. 20,000 women and 20,000 men are raped while serving in the armed forces while the perpetrators go unpunished. Now we are going back into Iraq, it's all pretty sad.
