bodleing: That kind of backs up my belief.

More knives = more stabbings

More guns = more shootings

Just that more often than not, guns do more
damage than knives.
I think the fatality figures suggest that.

And when knives are outlawed it will be: More bars of soap in the toe of a tube sock = more bludgeonings. Or more stairways = more people being pushed down stairwells. I'm sorry, G, but I just can't quite buy your argument no matter how much I respect you personally.

To be perfectly honest, I'd much rather someone come after me with a gun rather than get close enough to use a knife. Knives don't miss nearly as often as guns do.

And I know from personal experience that it generally takes longer to heal from a serious knife wound than from a bullet to the same area...

Guns vs Doctors
A friend emailed this to me, thought it was pretty good.

DOCTORS:
(A) The number of physicians in the U.S. is 700,000.
(B) Accidental deaths caused by Physicians per year are 120,000.
(C) Accidental deaths per physician is 0.171. Statistics courtesy of U.S. Dept. of Health Human Services.

GUNS:
(A) The number of gun owners in the U.S. is 80,000,000. Yes, that is 80 million.
(B) The number of accidental gun deaths per year, all age groups is 1,500.
(C) The number of accidental deaths per gun owner is
0.000188.

MATH: .171/.000188 = 909 Statistically, doctors are approximately 900 times more dangerous than gun owners.

Remember, "Guns don't kill people, doctors do."

NOT EVERYONE HAS A GUN, BUT ALMOST EVERYONE HAS AT LEAST ONE DOCTOR.

Please alert your friends to this alarming threat. We must ban doctors before this gets completely out of hand.

Uh-oh, Lela! Now they're going to be climbing all over you because doctors weren't designed to kill and maim like guns are!

It's funny how much more dangerous the things that are supposed to help us are than the things that're supposed to kill us, but nobody wants to regulate the things that are supposed to help us regardless of the fact that they kill more of us than the things that're designed to kill us...

Exactly just like auto's and cell phones these days.

Did You know you can put several cell phones pointing toward each other and putt a pile of popcorn in between them and then have someone call those two phones. The popcorn will begin popping.

Not to mention them being a distraction and people trying to use them while driving. I need to go look up the stats on that. I bet the numbers on that are outrageously high, the number of deaths due to people using them.

I was almost hit head on collision recently from someone digging for their phone in the seat. Luckily I had no cars to my left and was able to swerve out of his way.professor

there is an abundance of proof in other countries to say gun control works........crime stats are down, and if you took the emotion out of this argument, you would be able to see it does have an effect............

ITS THIS SIMPLE

less guns-less murders

THE FACTS ARE THERE FOR EVERYONE TO SEE

and i am a gun-owner......30-30 lever action winchester.....i am a member of a gun club.....and there are alot of members in the club who advocate the same arguments here, but there are also alot who dont think gun ownership should be across the board

jessejess47: I for one would think that gun shot wounds would of couse be more deadly, just common sense if you ask me. But as far as the title of the thread goes , gun control is not going to happen here and I think by all the responses by Americans , it will never be voted out, and any one in office or running for office will not support that stance or they will be voted out for sure. But back on topic, gun control IN this counrty will never work , the people won't allow that.IMO

Well that is a question for you and your countries
citizens.
I still believe there is a price to pay for this
liberty that so many of you hold so dear.
It doesnt impact on me in any way, but looking
in from the outside, I think the op has a point
worth discussing.

I agree but I just don't know where to go with this anymore, I though it was a great thread , heated some times but thats what makes it great, I for one learned a lot, and can understand some of the others views, Like Tam and Vonny thier counties back a few was so torn with death and killing. We have a lot of stuff going on here and we do try to address it. I would love to here your views on the issue and you are free to e-mail me if you wish rather than do it here ,but eather way is fine. I tryed to point out why it is so deeply rooted here it is rather complicated. ......Dave handshake
