adamisk: when politicians say control they really mean tax the hell out of i can't afford that . also correct me if i'm wrong but technically in the beginning didn't settlers kinda move in on the indians territory ?

Snuggs09: The Constitution of the United States was adopted in 1787. Our forefathers wrote the Second Amendment to the Constitution to empower homesteaders the right to protect their family from anyone who would cause them harm. The western part of the United States was wild and still being developed. Indians or even other landowners would try to run you off your property. In 1787 there weren’t local police departments, the FBI or any type of law enforcement agency. A family had to have a gun to protect themselves.
It is now 2009 and the Second Amendment still gives citizens of the United States the right to bear arms “in case someone intends to commit robbery in their home or any other type of crime”. People who want a gun in their home, or on their person, use the Second Amendment as an excuse to own a weapon.
We don’t have to worry about the Indians attacking our land anymore. Hunters have guns for the sport of hunting and this is not in question. The National Rifle Association states if you want a gun, you should have it. They are very fond of the Second Amendment.
The Constitution has been amended 27 times. It is time to change it again? Should we amend the Second Amendment so that people do use it as an excuse to own a gun. Laws have been changed requiring people to fill out applications for permission to own a gun but it hasn’t deterred the amount of crime. It’s easy to own a gun these days. If the Second Amended was changed people who owned guns, just for the sake of having it, wouldn’t be protected by the Constitution.
Here’s a thought. If we can’t control who owns guns, maybe we can control the bullets….
If you think crime is bad now, take away the right to own a gun.
Tamarin: You teach your children how to shoot and handle a gun...
This is madness a child with a gun...
No wonder we have school and college massacres....
Actually most kids that cause these Massacres were never brought up with guns. They became fascinated with them through other means... media and poor parenting. You teach a child to respect and they in most cases respect. You don't teach a child and you leave an inquisitive mind to it's own devices.
What would happen if you didn't teach a child to drive, but they had access to a car? Grand Theft Auto.
rocketqueen: ALSO, I JUST WOULD LIKE TO ADD THAT THERE IS A HUGE AMOUNT OF SCHOOL-SHOOTINGS, WHERE THE GUN HAS BEEN LEGALLY OWNED
You are saying that Adults have been shooting kids in schools? or are the guns taken without permission to commit crimes? Because, kids are not allowed to own gun in the US. You must be an adult to own a gun.

I learned gun handling and safety at a very young age. As an instructor, I've taught many children to safely and responsibly shoot and handle guns. To my personal knowledge not a single one of them has EVER participated in, nor instigated a school and/or college massacre.
rocketqueen: oh boy here we go again...you only have to look at countries that have outlawed (most) guns to realise that the crime stats for firearms are actually down, compared to other countries where guns are reasonably availableas i have said to a million people, EVERYONE HAS THE RIGHT TO DEFEND THEMSELVES, BUT NOT EVERYONE HAS THE RIGHT TO BARE (SIC) ARMS
To the contrary - Our own first lady is quite fond of baring her arms (it's even been on the news). I personally wear sleeveless shirts most of the summer. Never once seen anybody castigated for keeping cool! But, boy oh boy, let one law abiding citizen make a rational argument for keeping his personal firearms and he's branded a maniac! Sheesh!

HI ZEE
NO I DID MEAN THE KIDS GETTING ACCESS TO THEIR PARENTS WEAPONS.....SORRY FOR THE MISUNDERSTANDING
rocketqueen: ALSO, I JUST WOULD LIKE TO ADD THAT THERE IS A HUGE AMOUNT OF SCHOOL-SHOOTINGS, WHERE THE GUN HAS BEEN LEGALLY OWNED
The percentages are still small and does not justify stripping American's of their right to own a gun. It has more to do with our ill conceived society and what it teaches the people.

I am sorry Zee I do not buy this point.....
The massacre that has just occurred in Germany...
the young man got the weapon from his home it belonged to his father....
My kids are not taught how to shoot but would never pick up a gun because they are inquisitive as I have taught them right from wrong and they know it is wrong to take a life....
Just as they know it is wrong to take drugs and drink themself stupid and disrespect anyone...
As one of my kids says we are all equal Mom no matter...whether we are purple with green spots and three eyes, six legs etc....
The car arguement is also weak sorry just IMO....Not every child will take a car if not taught to drive...
It is about personnel choices and knowing right from wrong...
Look in the rights of a child and you take that child's rights away placing a gun in it's hand and teaching it to shoot for whatever reason....
You are making the choice as an adult not the child...
Here in the UK you have to be older to learn to drive but that is a whole other topic and thread....
Again laws that are very different in a different country and different ways of thinking...

The system needs fixing, not gun laws.
I am not sure I understand this Stress does a law not come under the system????

Indeed, friend! But only with proper provocation and forethought. Otherwise we are in danger of becoming the minority statistics that our misguided opposition resort to to prove our animalistic intentions.
