common as muck

Sparrows shouting and black birds too
How I wish I was in the uruweras with you
Only the thrush is mellow and inventive
If somewhat clichéd

The tui speaks with nectiferous eloquence
If only I could heat their jazzy solos
Sung over the song of the bell bird
And the kokako's spotlight riff

DOC calls the rosella a bloody Aussie invader
But their ding resonates evoking sympathies
It's not their fault they wear tropical shirts in a temperate land

Rosebud

And that rosebud all tightly wrapped
Shall soon her powdered pink petals part
And should her crimson heart to beat
The bee shall there the nectar taste
And of therefore sweet honey make

never ending..........

babbling brook...... you call to me
come ...............seek my destiny
through the maze......... of canopy
i ponder ..........on the end to be

just but a whisper..... as you wind
through the narrows you left behind
birds in song............ do remind
of beautiful places within my mind

light bewilders......... all to see
an opening ..............entices me
no more a brook ......for you to be
as you emerge ...into your identity

effortlessly ...you fall from grace
behind you.... a majestic rock face
a gilded beauty...... of white lace
constantly ...within time and space

delicately you dance on rocks below
a natural pool... of your afterglow
serened by the green that does grow
a brook once more ..for you to flow.......

RAGLAN - an acrostic for my husband

R - Roaring waves hit the rocks

A - Amazing surfers we watched as they ride

G - Gliding swiftly over giant white caps

L - Lifting themselves up to create a splash

A - Above a perfect surf they entertained us

N - NZ's number one surfing spot captivated our hearts

the sea

The soothing sound of the sea with its blue waters meet the sky so cloudless the expanse on high. The wonder of mystry there is; what solace beyond compare. To the cliffs each ravanous wave has bowed, and now comes swirling back beneath an angry cloud. The green-blue waves foam at the mouth and taste of the sands. The shells and pebbles are snatched away by greedy hands, and dashes far down into the depths of unknown while the waters rage on in fiendish glee.

Come Walk With Me -----Epic

Come take a walk with me
let us stroll the savannah
I want to show you the beauty
to introduce you to East Africa

A land seeped in dark history and mysteries
where once the Tembo roamed in their thousands
mighty animals who feared no-one not even lions
capable of uprooting a tree yet also tender to young

Most Majestic king of beasts lays sunbathing
his job is protection and to father strong cubs
replete from a gnu feast he dally's the day away
at dusk he will, with his brother do a patrol

There are hidden water holes if one knows where
here the birds swoop in, parrots and love birds
weavers and horn bills, egrets and fishing eagles
all flock to drink and then if safe a lovely bath

Thorn acacias adorn this lush land their tops flat
a treat for the long neck reticulated giraffe
they nibble away and seem to avoid the thorns with a-plume
then gracefully bending down to snack on buffalo grass

Vast changes in landscape, deep rift valleys
amidst the hills filled with peace and grace
lakes that startle as so bright they sparkle
once teeming with fish now sadly rather depleted

Villages of mud and straw huts, naked children
women with just a skirt, many men in throngs
cauldron in the centre where all share the cooking
a communal building where the young men sleep

Scrub trees line the deep red soil with clumps
of dry grass, little cover here for hunter
the herds on high alert ready to take to heel and flee
the slightest movement enough to spook them

Wondrous baobab trees with root like branches
a favourite place for natives to stash food
the landscape is continuously changing, some things no more
animals hunted to verge of extinction for what good?

The herds of Tembo once numbering up to 300 per herd
with ancient leaders who had the knowledge to survive
the harshest of the droughts that can plague this land
Africa the continent of fire, of spices, filled with flora

This continent of dark mystery holds me spell bound
it hosts a vast treasure of so many things all precious
from the smallest to the largest, from stones come gems
how can I convince you that here you must visit and soon

For here in this land are so many stories to delight,
to inspire and even to soothe, and some that will enrage
the gentle poet heart. And inspired by the vast array
here on display your poets soul will be totally inspired

this and so much more was my Africa

Rainbow

A magnificant wonder above my head
As the curtain open and drapes the clouds
Sunbeams multiply the colours intensity

Evoking red of morning´s dawn
Enlightening yellow of daylights glow
Chilling green of the fertile grounds
and calming violett of raindrops shimmer.

Leave me alone to enjoy my mind´s flow
Don´t disturb my emotional blaze
Don´t rape my melancholy with laughter
As only my tears flow let my rainbow apear.

With Final Burst------villanelle

With final burst of golden rays
sun sets below the horizon
day fades away and here night stays

From south gentle warm breeze plays
luring forward pretty siren
with final burst of golden rays

Siren calls hearts are set ablaze
and rising up comes Poseidon
day fades away and here night stays

Together they play in the bays
ride waves on the crest of Zion
with final burst of golden rays

There is no more time for delays
a merry nod to Orion
day fades away and here night stays

As departing we go our ways
as daylight for us is poison
With final burst of golden rays
day fades away and here night stays
