Autumn challenge.......5senses

I can taste the change in the air
Summer has broken and is nowhere
The colours i see have lost their spark
Leaves are drying all over the park
I feel the wind cool my skin
Carrying with it a new beginning
And hear the rustling of distant trees
Littering the ground with parched leaves
As autumn rolls around once more
I smell the intent of nature's chore......

THE TURTLE

Driving along the road yesterday
Up ahead were flashing hazard lights
I slowed down on approaching the fray
Until I could get in full sight

Wondering if something bad was ahead
One man was getting out of his car
I approached cautiously with much dread
He was staring at the hot blacktop tar

I too looked to see what was there
And started to laugh at the sight that I saw
Trudging down the road without a care
I watched this huge turtle in awe

He kept walking with determination
Not to let anything stop him
From reaching his final destination
Did he know his chances were very grim

I drove on praying in my heart
That God’s creature would be safe in his travels
Wishing that we humans were that smart
To trust God when our life starts to unravel

Knowing that He is watching over us
And He will help us to get where we are going
Without all the fuss and muss
But with complete faith and knowing

NATURE

Laying back hovering above the porch in my swing...
with eyes closed I listen to the tiny Wren sing
Repetitive knocking is that of our neighborhood Woodpecker I decree
An eerie sound echoes as gusting winds rip through every tree.

A plethora of Squirrel dissecting Acorns Ten to Twelve feet away...
several others apparently just out for play.
With feet bare I step off the porch onto a Dewy lawn...
I then look up at a breathtaking view during a yawn

From out of nowhere a rogue Raindrop lightly grazes one eye.
startling considering not one cloud hovers in the sky
Unequivocal beauty and wonderment of Nature is heaven on Earth I plea...
sadly hell is too... it's clearly visible every day on your tv.

That resilient Woodpecker is back once again...
I can't make out which tree his beak is meticulously putting holes in.
Something just sent those Squirrels scrambling back to their nest...
Oh well...I'm gonna get back in my porch swing to rest.

A secret is only as good as
The paper it's written on
After being burned
Flakes of gray float into the sky

Little Bud

One fine spring morn as I walked through the wood,
I spied an uncommon handsome little bud.
It stood out from the rest on a chestnut tree,
I know not why it so appealed to me.

I watched it through the summer as it grew.
Its splendour and its beauty stood it apart.
Its green was of the most enchanting hue,
and to that regal leaf I lost my heart.

Then September came and turned my leaf to red;
by October my beloved leaf was dead.

Vivo in un posto ...

E pian piano abbiamo imparato a capirci.

The silver back of midnight

We sit on the silver back of midnight
a haze in from the Aleutians
where God left a twist
of scale and immensity
with the moon hanging surely
above the creaking dock
timbers dry and seasoned
we cast lines into the wake
and drink from the home-made wine
under the mighty canopy
we are star fueled
philosophy flows
while the crabs scuttle
along the shoreline

Seasons Change

I was thinking as I was just walking
Through the bottom woods one day
Autumn sun rays were still angling
Through the enormous crimson canopy
So many bright Red and Scarlet
Mixing with many Orange and Yellow
Leaves dazzling falling all around me
Above me a passing flock of Canada geese
Noisily cackling formation in their large V
I watched in awe with such wonder pass
Now what lays before me as I make my way
Knowing it won’t be long now maybe a few more
Cold fronts and those wet cold showers
And in no time just like I snap my fingers
Seasons change and it becomes winter again

CHANGING CIRCLE.

Around the lake edge, a circle to walk
Some with a friend, laugh and talk
Others like solitude, adsorbing the scene
Lake sparkling blue, surrounded by green

Little rest areas, signposted to assist
Those taking a break, some will resist
Refreshing bodies, taking in the view
Smiling at strangers, acknowledged on cue

A track not a footpath, allows all to walk
Or cycle if careful, where high above a hawk
Swoops-floats, enjoys being alive and free
Above a nature reserve, dotted by trees

Boats skim water, hired for a short time
Whether fishing or sailing, on a day so fine
Families or solo can relax, recharge in fresh air
Sharing nature's beauty, with other who care.

A gift not packaged, by shiny baubles- bows
Just nature's flowers, seasonal wind will sow
Rubbish bins-warnings, remind not to leave
Making others waste time, when collect-retrieve......
