no title

my name was but smoke
drifting over flesh as yet to pass
yet are we not all to young
to be so acquainted with death
bright leaves
hung upon the tree of generation

sunset

The sunset is a beautyful thing. It adorns the closing of the day and causes the heart to sing! The day brings thoughts of years gone by, but the sunset brings rest and peace eternally on high! The golden amber hues wash away the lingering tears caused by the anguish of pain accumulated through the years. So with the soul laid at rest sunsets way

The Hunter

The fresh tracks cut so clean
Tumbling through the woods
Running past the evergreen
Past the gurgling brook
Silently in my stand
Watching as the light rain
Glistened on its blued barrel
My breath rushing in and out
Not moving a muscle tense
Now all my concentration
Focusing every sense
In the direction of a twig
That snapped and another
Closer and louder it comes
Conspiracy of silence
We share one last breath
When at last between us
In the motionless branches,
I see his antlers move

About this poem:
It is the start of the annual deer hunt in rural New England. A tradition more than an event that transposes life itself into a timeless act of being one with our primordial self.

Fire of Birth (haibun)

fiercely burning fire
setting the outback ablaze
devastating all

the thunder of hoofs as desperate animals flee
birds overhead fleeing the greedy flames, that
devour all they met leaving charred remains
of those too weak, sick or even just too slow
why you ask? Well my child sometimes you need
to burn out the dead and useless so new life
can come to be. A fresh start with verdant green
new growth springing up everywhere leading
to new birth of animals. The old now gone
and forgotten if only life were as easy.

fire of purity
cleansing and reaffirming
from death comes new birth

Moonshine

On long November nights
Coldly you brood
Rising above wispy clouds
A thin veil shrouds
Your tempest mood
Great beacon of hope
Mere reflections of sand
Promising another day
A torch to lead the way
When morning’s at hand

cool change

the blue sky rumbles with intent as darkness
invades the steamy hot summer's day
large drops tap gently on the roof
slowly ......purposely but teasingly
the humidity is soothed to a cool freshness
tempering my mood to follow
as the earth lays in wait
aching to be bathed
my senses dance with delight
embracing the change
its long overdue an eagerness
lies etched in the faces of many
dark clouds have threatened before
and have passed by without cause
flashes of colour emit from the sky
fuelling hope as i eagerly wait
for the tempo to speed up
waiting forever waiting
anticipating i ponder
how beautiful it is before
it finally rains..........

music and flowers ( haiku)

soft wafting music
drifting filling the night air

full of sweet scented blossoms
alive with colour

Snowflakes

a slight breeze
and loosely packed snow
on yonder branch
comes tumbling down
in myriads of tiny snowflakes
each flake becomes a miracle
glistening in the streetlight
like a diamond

A winter Collection of haiku's

icicles dangling
glittering silver droplets
slowly they will melt

slush everywhere slush
left behind by melting snow
land now watery

ice glistening bright
vast expanse over the lake
now here until spring

arctic snow flurries
sweep across the barren lands
settling in drifts

snow falling softly
clothing all the world in white
drifting aimlessly

Contemplation

Embedded image from another site

Every morning he walked the path through immortal trees
Just right before dawn while natures at peace
Deep in the forest he listened to the shivering leaves
Celebrating their life with only the weight of a breeze
Strolling on through the wilderness still foggy with mist
With every step he's determined inhaling the wind
Surveying the landscape divided by rolling slopes
In search of the one perfect flower that will give meaning to hope
Beyond rushing streams in final remnants of night
Etched with the last silvered thorns of adorning moonlight
Near the end he discovered with sorrow decayed and disheveling trees
But then he heard cheerful whispers from the first birds to sing
As the morning swords of sunrise gave birth to new eyes
He admires the passion of the dying inspiring new life
And with contemplation he studies a beautiful rare flower in bloom
Growing upon the dead flesh of the earth and with peace his heart was consumed
