Juju

they used to bang it
working the corn at all hours
it rippled through the neighbouring walls
so even the dogs couldn't sleep
now they are gone
I lie awake at night
and all I can hear
are the juju chants of a Belgian sausage-maker

An ANZAC'S daughter..........

When my gran died we all cried
For an era had certainly passed
My grandfathers legacy of her war pension home
Was now out of my mothers grasp
Bequeathed to be Sold
The words may somehow have read
To be shared with her only sibling
Whose life was way better than led
But my mothers resolve was always guided
By the one she adored the most
Her faith led to a fisherman's shack
A mere five minute walk to the coast
Where her love for the sea
Did reveal and heal the scars of past
With daily walks and her cigarettes
An irony of years she would last
But it was the shack that blessed her twilight years
And gave her so much joy
Perched on the side of a hill
It looked almost coy
Amidst a stand of huge Pines
And the odd Eucalypt or two
A giant Jacaranda leered
For all passing by to view
A home for all the possums
And any other critters passing by
The notes from her piano
Would soothe my mothers sigh.........

About this poem:
My Grandfather would be very proud of his daughters resilience to the Wars Of Life........unfortunately he left behind two beautiful girls under the age of twelve........He led tours in Egypt and PNG and died in hospital after contracting an infection from injury ........I visited his grave in a war cemetery just four hours north of here...... I wrote this for all the people that were affected by his passing........They too have passed.........Love and peace too all those suffering the atrocities of war around the world ........May it stop quickly so my sons and there sons can still appreciate the beauty of on ever diminishing world.....

My ANZAC

My grandfather who art in heaven
Victor French be his name
Fought for this country like many more
Gallantly with no shame

To protect the souls an aussie goals
He always had in mind
Fallen comrades an mates
He tried not to leave behind

With gunnedah blood he did shrug
All hurdles in his way
A seargeant in the army
He led from day to day

But wars of life are not a game
For death is everywhere
Priceless pawns moved into place
To fight for what they care

History is an will always be
Of many untold stories
Brave men gone to war to set you free
Not to seek the glories

For war has no glory
As too much suffering there will be
Lives lost at such a cost
The fee to be free

For my grandfather i have said
An ANZAC through an through
Raise your glass tip your hat
A proud aussie .....True Blue

Turning the ash

In the absence of your love
rigid fortune given its due
for now we lack the mettle
to slip the prow
into the citrus night
the vessel no longer sure
of its destination
and plagued with weakness
as time would have it

I recall a time
when the bedpost rang
and fresh were the garlands
in the morning spirit
and lifting with the dew
we would walk the bay
'til the light
played out
and the evening
would have us
no more

Yet let us not swallow defeat
my love
tied as it always will be
as a shadow
turn the ash
turn until
the stem is fresh
reaching upward
ready to embrace
new summer song

my selector

When my selector drops that beat and it feels so sweet can't help but skin teet and dance shank dem feet feeling like I'm on heat
This rhythm
Tones beats n melodies
Like download n streaming mysticalised remedies
From that strum on a guitar
To the drum piano and brass of the orchestra
Throw away those thoughts and feelings
Open up unto a world of mystical healings
When da tune sound nice
Ya play it twice
Bump n grind in dat groove n then ya play it thrice
To get that feeling
To feel that meaning
Something resonates inside the soul
Like the muzik activates n captivates
And ya wanna stay inside this state
But wait
Reality kicks in
Take off the headphones n yep gotta deal with things
Deal with people
Seems a chore n a bore
But ya gotta find a way to pay your
Bills
Listening to muzik 24/7 won't cure ya ills
Or will it?
Hmmmmm

I Don't Know Where I Am

The river is winding round round
The river is winding round round
The world is spinning round round
And I don't know where I am

The river is looking dirty now
The river is looking dirty now
The world is looking dirty now
And I don't know where I am

The politicians go round round
The politicians go round round
The government is not what our forefathers found
And I don't know where I am

The eagle is slowly flying round round
The eagle is slowly flying round round
Things in the sky are falling down down
And I don't know where I am

Not Yet

I took the drive to Lancaster
It is a 15 mile drive
To where I thought my Mom was
An old folks home
On the way I saw a turkey vulture
They're big birds!
What an omen
As the only place I had ever seen one on the side of the road
Was on the way to Muscoda
The nurse told me she wasn't there
I should call my sister
My sister said they hid Mom at another place so she didn't have to go
The police offered no support
Saying it was out of their hands
So she is free from that hell for now
I'm glad of that
But for how long?

About this poem:
My dad died in one of those toxic hell holes called a nursing home. I remember a dream I had as a child about hell, the feeling I got was pretty close to the same feeling I got every time I went to this nursing home, at least I got to leave.

Live from Kranji

A leisure suit is no defence
against the 35C
its a tight hussle
weather and horsemen
the game goes on

skeletal companions
smoking Marlboro
deep in the form
Malay Malay
horse lore in the haze

I move to the English lounge
gratifyingly stand-offish
public school accent
all taken with aplomb
mahogany boardrooms

I'm down 50 by the 5th
El Dorado's in the pocket
burst from the turn
commanding adrenaline
home for a 100

Singapore nights
harbour-side towers
champagne club
tall balconies
hewn from the jungle

Cry Away My Love For You

There was a boy and a girl who at times they didn't get along
So he sat down and wrote a sad song it went this away
And that away and now right away I'll go away
And you will find someone new and I will cry away my love for you

There was a girl and a boy who at times they didn't get along
So she sat down and wrote a sad song it went this away
And that away and now right away I'll go away
And you will find someone new and I will cry away my love for you

It was a love story so sad but true
A love story that breaks your heart into
There was a boy and a girl
And till this day cry away my love for you
