RE: Life After a Stroke

hi cuddles thank you for posting this article..lot of insight and it will be a help to all who live in the real world where illness, disability and such things exist..

i have worked with special needs at one point in my career and loved working to support them.

no one asks for such things to happen, and it can be a shock to people that i understand, but life is a lot more than just looking good or being fit physically, lots of us get problems as we get older.

your article shows light on something that is outthere..and its real..maybe more will be sympathetic...and less distant...

RE: Do You Believe in Ghosts?

Hello. I do believe in ghosts and not to sound offensive or rude about your article I found it very negative. Where is the balance. There is balance in everything in life. I do belive in ghosts. I've seen them in different forms (always human, and once as a wisp of smoke when there was no means of creating it ). They do not and never have hurt me and I do think that your frame of mind , positive or negative has a bearing on how they are perceived. I only ever got a fright once and that was at night when i was almost asleep and when I would be feeling most 'scared' for want of a better word (vunerable?) and i burned sage(white or ordinary) the next day which is said to clear spirits. I know people think your a weirdo if you say you believe in ghosts but my sister was in the house that night. She heard it before i felt its presence. But I remain positive that spirits will not harm you and they have no such intention. My father is passed away but I still talk to him and sometimes out loud if I need help or am in a difficult situation. My belief is that if you lead a good and healthy life and look at everything with an open mind you have nothing to fear. Life is balanced -for every bad a good will happen to balance it. Namasté ( this is a greeting sanskrit- it means, the spirit in me honours the spirit in you) enjoyed reading your view, hope you can see a point in mine?

RE: Don’t Lose your Identity in a Relationship

awesome advice and 100% accurate. I was once involved in that position but when i lost friends over it i soon realized the needed changes in thinking had to come about. i did manage to recover those friendships through being humble and apoligizing and regaining their trust but it wasn;t easy. i am glad i did and i am happy this site gives such excellent advice out to others as well. thanks for the wonderful honesty and openeness in this article to tell it like it is.

RE: Three Women You Don’t Want to Date: The Damsel in Distress, The Princess, and Your Mother

Well said. I have learned this lesson myself from men. You have to be a well balanced person for a man these days and make those changes yourself for yourself because how do you expect to have a man love you for you if you don;t love yourself first. i was never a princess type but i was a damsel in distres until i realized it and made the changes i needed and now i am perfectly happy with myself as i am not one anymore nor am i a mother type even though i am a mom to my kids. Ladies don;t be offended by this advice but do try to accept that yu may need to change yourself in order to have that thing you covet most in life a happy life with that special man. it is not a big thing and don't think of it as such just do it and you will be amazed at the changes in your life that will happen when u do.

Rejection...dont give up.

hi scatlyn..well thank you for visiting here as well as the poems..and i value your insight here too..while rejection is not an issue for many, there come moments in life when people for various reasons do find themselves out on the rim..no one wants that, but we all are choosy and prefer some more than others..

i am noting your last line scatlyn..its true you can rise from your circumstances, thats the beauty of it all, our life does not depend on the approval of others, nice to get it but not essential..

with God nothing is impossible...He it is that gives us all things..so in Him we can succeed..

thanks a lot scatlyn...for such a insight and lenthy reply..

RE: Rejection...dont give up.

P.S.Those who see us from the outside may be able to see some particular thing we don't, that can be helpful to us. But those worth listening to are the one's who give sound advice, not rejection.
And no one can see the true person inside us - the whole picture. They have no idea of our life's circumstances, what we've been through, what our true motives & intentions are, etc.

One person said it this way "You can't judge a book by it's cover."

RE: Rejection...dont give up.

@joy - Rejection does happen for a reason - often unfair reasons. Some of those would be low income, appearance, a physical handicap, a mental handicap... even rumors started by someone who's jealous, sometimes very vicious rumors, or simply not "fitting in".

As the author stated: maybe we dont sound good/or look good/dress well/maybe we are shy/more thoughtful/wont do wrong things/are not talented and successful..from school days all the way up..seems there is always the shadow of rejection..touching us sometimes...

Sure, there are those who are rejected for a valid reason, though that's rarely the case. And I agree it's a good idea to take an honest view of what someone has said about you, if there's anything true & of value there, use it & learn from it.

The point of the article is to not let your value/worth as a human being be decided by those who reject for some unfair(and often unknown to us) reason given by someone who often turns out to be very judgmental & immature, though we may never know that, and end up basing our value/self-worth on such things.

"my life is not measured by how people view me...", "if not taken for who we are..then better off without them","being free of compromise..we are our own person", ".. be kind and good to yourself...put a value on yourself...for one day you will rise above your circumstance...and be the stronger."

- great advice for anybody thumbs up

Thanks for the article, Serpico, written w/much insight & wisdom - you are a kind & caring person, as evidenced by those who read your wonderful poems in the Poetry Corner, and as evidenced by your compassionate articles as well.

RE: Rejection...dont give up.

Be kind and good to yourself...put a value on yourself, right. But be kind and good to others too, may be they will not reject you then? There must be a reason for rejection, it does not happen for nothing. Being free of compromise? Our image of ourselves is all that we need? Dubious premises, they would not help socializing. You have to compromise to live in society. And you have to know what others think of you in order to know yourself. A person may have a grand image of himself that does not match a perception of that person by others. Who is right? I am afraid that the others because they see you from outside and it means they see better. It is not about shyness or looks or intellect that causes rejection, it is usually how a person relates to other people.

RE: Why Are Women More Affectionate Than Men

May be men just do not feel the way we women do? We expect them show the feelings we have, but if they do not have such feelings, how can they show them? Have you noticed that men often write in their profiles 'you get what you see'? May be we should trust what they say and not look for something that is not there. It is kind of shocking to realize that they are so poor in emotions, of course, but what to do? We have to face the truth and not expect impossible. So, may be they are from Mars, lol!

RE: Why Women Pick the Bad Guys.

excellent description....

to summarize it all: we all at one time fall for PRETTY WORDS....
also they are professional cons..... they are GOOD at the game.
I stayed in a marriage for 25 years, because I listened to the PRETTY WORDS, not the actions...
however, when I saw the actions, his PRETTY WORDS were always the stronger of the two....
yeah, people say, "you just didn't want to know", my reaction is: "the hell I didn't", I just couldn't catch him.....
Now, at my age, I would give a million dollars to find a good man, and he wouldn't have to speak any PRETTY WORDS, he would just need to wrap me in his loving arms and let his heart speak!

RE: The Average Guy's Guide to Beautiful Women

Wonderful article. Just be yourself. I think also for males and females don't judge a book by it's cover. Give that person a chance, you won't ever know until you approach and talk to them what they are really like. Most of us grow up feeling that we are not good enough. I know I did up until about a year ago, I had very low self esteem.I read a brilliant book 'You can heal your life' by Louise Hay, it's not just for women. She suggests telling ourselves that we love and approve of ourselves as many times a day as possible for at least a month, well I laughed, but tried it anyway. It worked, I feel good enough now, but I'm not arrogant, or vain with it, just calmly confident and slightly humble still. Give it a go.... then go after that special someone, you never know ! Wishing you all success in finding that special someone !

RE: Do you speak dog?

I think the language of dog is done though the means of senses as well as pheromones. The ability to smell fear through adrenaline.

One test which has been carried out recently is a dogs ability to know when their master is coming home. Try coming home from work at your regular time, then a little earlier or later, I guarentee you that the your dog will be waiting for you at the door step or arrive back at your house just as you arrive. They know! I've tried this with my own dog (unintentionally) and strangely enough it works!

Dogs know exactly what mood your in without the use of words or body language, the uncanny 6th sense perhaps?

RE: Am I free?

Welcome to the club, the self control is a good thing but sometimes it's the worst enemy of the need to BE FREE, really free. People around you see you as the "character" and you scare them off, well she's not the party girl. And yes love is "luxury" nowadays, who knows maybe on day we'll have the right currency to afford it.

RE: Poetry.. Wordsmithing Your Way to Your Loved One's Heart

Poetry for Your loved one is a great personal way to stay close and keep a relationship vital and alive. It is a way to express what you sometimes can't put into words to a person face to face as the emotions involved are so strong. It doesn't make you look foolish or stupid or an idiot for expressing yourself openly and honestly and i admire those who do like me every chance i get. thanks for sharing this openly and honestly with the rest of the profilers here and beyond the realms of your circle and may it inpsire the rest who haven't done it yet out of fear of rejection from their soon to be other half. Go for it and write it out!!!!! Let it flow out and over to let all you feel out to that special someone.

RE: Do You Believe in Ghosts?

I believe in ghost or spirit or what ever it called.

I live in my mom house, as this house is big and she only alone. so she asked me to stay in.

the house is big but its a old Colonialism old type of the house, where the area known as a military complex but it released some of the house to own by public or when the retired army want to own the house they could buy it. My death father was an army b4.

and this house are extremely haunted till i write this here. why i said this? coz before we life here, there are an old lady who life here by her self and she was practicing a black magic and from rumors i heard from others old people who live around here/the neighbors, and as the witness of her black magic practice, she did buried about 3 or 4 baby's that fail to be delivered by a pregnant women who came to her for deliver the baby's. she also know as a "traditional doctor" to help deliver the baby to be born.

This kids, always came to me(truly) every year in certain month or moment of the year (like Muslim festive) and ask me to "clean" their house, which they bring me to my Kitchen are, which they called they "house"...every year until now...

i was scary, but never again since it happen only to me every year...my father was told me b4 he died...just pray and let them know that you are not they slave, and they can not demand anything just let you clean their house once a year, while you here...i did.

well, not only that...the old lady, are in our pavilion still...always there, and scary out the thief or people who just hiding without permission at our back yard.

So ghost is there...spirit is there...we have in our beloved house until now...but we let them out of our life, as they can life here as well...no bother us.

RE: "Just friends" between a man and a women: myth or reality?

I think it is more difficult or me in Latin American countries because it goes against the expectation that a woman is either all or nothing for me. It was easier for me in Seattle, (Washington, USA) because expectations were different. This is a very interesting topic and I have a lot more to say, but I am curious to see what others think before I say anything else.

RE: When is it okay to switch from hot date to smart girl??

It depends what you are looking for. If you want a guy who is only after looks, focus on that and don't try to improve your mind.

If you want a guy who just wants to get laid, then he will only care about your looks. I am looking for a serious long-term relationship leading to marriage. This means that I am looking for the whole package. Of course looks are important, but what guy wants to share his life with a shallow moron who can only talk about what color she is going to paint her nails? A true life partner is someone who also has good morals and can be trusted with my life and my possessions (eventaully our possessions). I can't imagine being with a woman who couldn't do the simplest things like buying insurance or hiring a remodeling contractor. I know some guys who are happy with that. They just want a trophy wife who is no good to anyone. I want more than that.
