What is a human being? The online dictionary defines it as the fact of existing or conscious mortal existence. Hmm... do animals have conscious mortal existence?

If all it means is existence, then why do we seek meaning to our lives? If conscious mortal existence means only that we're conscious of our mortality, then why do we seek the answers to our existence? If we are meant simply to exist, then shouldn't however we exist be enough? What would it matter if we felt happy, sad, glad, angry, fearful, joy, frustration, etc., if we were meant to merely exist.

What would our lives be without feelings? Our lives would be an existence. It's our thoughts that determine whatever feelings we have about anything. We have thousands of thoughts every day, most of which don't even register because we don't assign any feelings to them. But it's how we feel about something/anything that determines how we act/react. Without feelings we would truly only exist.

In my opinion, it's that consciousness of feeling that gives us our humanity. And the more conscious and aware of how we are part and parcel of the entire universe, the more compassionate and the more empathetic we become. The more love we feel, the more love we have/need to share.

Every single person is made with blood, bones, muscle, etc, and it takes the same kind of energy for their hearts to beat, as it does ours. Peel off the skin, and you have the same kinds of cells that it takes to make ourselves as it does every other person.

It takes food to nourish them, and water to hydrate them, just like us. They hurt, cry, laugh, and love, just like we do. They need food, shelter, clothing and fresh water, just like we do. And they want more than to just exist, just like we do. They want to be loved and be happy, just like we do.

We're not defined as human buyings, conscious only of making more money than our neighbors, and buying more. We're not defined as human doings - being busy doing things to avoid feeling too much, or afraid that we won't feel enough.

We are defined as human beings. And a mother across the world is no less a human being than any mother here. A family is still a family. They rejoice at births and grieve at deaths and losses, just like we do. And that's what makes us human beings. The capacity to feel compassion and empathy for another human. The ability to be conscious of someone else's plight and to want to ease their lives, in whatever way we can.

If we are meant to merely exist, then I don't think we'd have been given the capacity to be conscious of not just ourselves, but everyone else, or to feel anything.

We all have the capacity to be amazing, and to accomplish amazing and awesome things in this life. If we focus on and are conscious of what we can accomplish and the good feelings that brings, there is no telling what every single person here could achieve.

As human beings, we each have something priceless to contribute. Every single one of us. I will work harder at being more conscious of my own thoughts and feelings and being aware when someone is trying to pull me from that happy place within my mind. I will be more conscious of seeing the jewels in others, particularly those that do not agree with me.

And, I think, that's what being human is.

Well I must say the first 7 days on this site have been interesting to say the least.

I have made it here which is further than I expected to last. Usually I will start something with good intentions and then when it doesn't seem to be helping or fill the void that I am desperately trying to, I just give up and think it was worth it anyway. So after 7 days of being on here and I'm still continuing to go ahead with why I signed up in the first place it must mean that I am getting something I need or am just more determined than other times in my past.

This is where the self-improvement comes in to play. I want to be the person that can be depended on but also the one that can depend on someone else. My kids are great but they also don't need to be the crutch I lean on either.

I have had a life filled with disappointments. Some obviously very good as I have 4 beautiful young adults, but I have never had that kind of connection that I see in all the happy couples and families that surround me. I am trying to change my way of thinking from detrimental and self destructive to positive and fulfilling. As one of my friends tells me all the time. When you get a complement accept it for what it is. Don't brush it off and say "ya ok" because it is meant to make you feel better and the truth. Compliments have always been hard for me to accept just because I have never felt worthy of them. When your daily life is built around being yelled at, put down and made to feel unimportant you tend to start believing it.

This is where I am at today trying to put together the pieces of my life that have been stomped on for many years and am unbelievably going to the vast unknown world of the internet to help me do that. It matters not if anyone wishes to comment or converse, (although it would be great) but the fact that I am putting myself out there to see if this will help. We all have to start somewhere and for me this is it.

the all important question.

"Did your repair of the lawnmower's pull cord pass a field test?"

LoL, yes, that is important to know. What good is a repair that doesn't work?

So, in the interest of settling any doubts, after returning the assembly to the source mower, I made this short video.





This mower had sat outside for a long time after the cord broke before I brought it inside. I believe moisture got into the fuel line either during the winter months or the spring rains. In any case you will note the initial hesitation and white smoke. Not to worry. It soon burned off the moisture and the hesitations stopped. All is good. I used this mower today with no problems.

I really wonder what schools teach these days. Talk to high school graduates and they have so little knowledge of the past now. I know even when I was in school, only bits of history was taught. And grade after grade the same bits. I started out in a one room school. The teacher tried to teach everything she could because she knew some kids would never go beyond 8th grade, particularly farm boys and girls.
I then went to a 4 room which combined the 4 last one rooms. Again they pushed everything they could because that was how they had been programmed to teach.
High school was boring due to knew it from grade school. Plus I had our library at home and parents taught me too. No book was off limits. Learned to be a prolific reader.
This plague is just one of many that humans went through since civilization began. Many plagues occur in countries that lack basic sanitary living conditions in super dense areas. Problem is now with air travel, too much interaction occurs with those countries. Fly to a foreign country and home before you know you are sick.
People today are too complacent. Go to a buffet. How many wash hands before eating? Then those who do use the same serving utensils everyone who didn't paws. Sit down and eat. I have hand sanitizer I use once at table. I open doors by the most awkward place I can, not the common one. Wear gloves in stores all winter. I view everything as contaminated, even aisles someone just breathed in. So I am well prepared for this new plague.
There is a saying that he who does not learn the history of the past is doomed to repeat it. Most of what occurs in the present has teachings in the past. Parents need to get kids to enjoying history. Then they will know we have been there before. And how to deal with things. Like mom used to say..there is nothing new under the sun. And people need to get over the attitude of not me.

A long time ago, when I was having a difficulty geeting a proper job as Nurse in the Philippines, and we were in dire financial struggle, I told God that if need be, I would trade my happy ever after for a chance to be able to provide for my family's needs.

I wasn't being self important by thinking that somehow my voluntary suffering will alleviate the suffering of others. It wasn't about that. But at that time, I was ready to forego my own happiness for something else without fully knowing the consequences. Or how lonely its going to be. And now it seems like God taking it seriously! Oh No! I hope He isnt.

I wonder where my happy ever after is.

Have you noticed that changing someones opinion in CS doesn't happen? Especially in politics. What you believe is what you believe and NOTHING factual posted here will make you change your mind.

I'll give some examples:
The 2020 election. It's been disputed (by the same small percentage) but no evidence came up to change it.

The Biden family is the most corrupt group in America. Right? This usually comes up when the talk is about Trump court cases. Yet, they haven't found any dirt on Biden needed to get a vote to start the impeachment process. That doesn't stop those who repeat him being the worst president in the US and the most corrupt.

Fake news... usually the ones who parrot that phrase listen to the news service of Fox who was sued by Dominion Voting Systems (and lost) in a settlement of $787 million.

The earth is flat. Yeah, it's all done by holograms.

Believing the posts on TRUTH social from it's creator, who was banned from Twitter, Instagram and Facebook for making UNTRUE statements.

Denial of air pollution and climate change because in winter you had two feet of snow in your city. Let's discuss this in direct sunlight. Your place or mine?

America needs to start using sludge / tar oil from The Keystone XL Pipeline. Shall we because it's raising our gasoline prices. I guess, that hasn't been disputed enough on CS.
