No Charge

I know you loved him. I loved him too.
He was my daddy before he had you.
He left me all alone and I went on.
And soon memory of him was gone.
At one time I made him up.
In my mind to be what I wanted him to be.
Just to fill the empty spot,
That seemed to live within me.
I grew up. And he came around.
Like a fleeting ghost running thru a ghost town.
One moment he was here the next gone.
I guess he went back to you, back to his home.
Years went by and life went on.
Like a whirl wind that moves so fast it sings a song.
The hospital said got your father here.
I brought him home back to me.
No one come they just let him be.
We had the time to mend our hearts.
To find the love we shared from the start.
You ask me if I resented you.
The times you had with him.
I wondered where you were.
When it all came to an end.
As you write to me of your love my friend.
I must sadly tell you there is nothing of his that is mine.
Tho he left it all to me for my time.
I could never take a penny for being there.
I gave it all to my sister.
Aint life unfair.

Courage

When someone uses violence,
To control another's life.
It causes lack of confidence,
Be it daughter, son or wife.

All the anger and frustration,
Can build up inside of you.
Til your desp'rate situation,
May lead you to vi'lence too.

It is often carried forward,
To the children of abuse.
Who then point the finger backward,
Use their parents as excuse.

But you always have your choices,
On this long and winding road.
You can listen to those voices,
Or just choose to change your mode.

You can stand up to that bully,
And thus remove his power.
Even though you realize fully,
It could be your final hour.

All the courage you can manage,
Will just barely be enough,
But you can control the damage,
And prove you're of stronger stuff.

So be kind to those who love you,
So that love may come to you.
Just don't let your demons shove you,
And to thine own self be true.

A Most Special Gift

The first time I saw her, I couldn't believe it was true
A perfect pink pudgy lil angel, with enormous eyes so blue
This precious lil creature, lying right here in my arms
Endowed it does seem, with all of heaven's charms

Surely I must be dreaming, for how in this world ?
Could she really be, my very own baby girl ?
So completely amazed, and filled with pride and awe
For a more beautiful child, I had never saw

Now gazing down upon her, surveying what was there
A tiny dimple in her chin, a crown of shiny golden hair
Just a chubby cherub, with only the slightest lil nose
More soft and as pink, as the petals of a rose

Poking two tiny fingers in her mouth, with one small sigh so deep
She drifted off then, into a most angelic sleep
A baby girl angel, surely sent from above
A most special gift just for me, that I will cherish and love

The animal

Sitting,waiting
Just contemplating
Listening to my son playing video games
"I will train the animal!"
That's what the video game said
I didn't mean my son was an animal

My Scottish Gran’

The kettle boils and your tea still brews
Everything I know I learned from you
The song of birds the names of flowers
You graced me with your loving powers
So long ago since I last held your hand
A little boy with his wonderful Gran
Those long walks down by a lake shore
I will cherish and remember for evermore
So I am older now and the world is changed
Been tossed around and my life rearranged
I will always know such goodness starts
With the love you instilled in my heart

About this poem:
I was so very fortunate growing up a young child to know a very sweet and loving grandmother, (Maggie), who taught me how to study nature and learn all the birds by their songs and all the flower names by the little rhymes she made up for them that grew along the roadside. She has been long gone now, but in my heart I will always cherish her.

Living In Two Worlds

Do not be fooled by this silly fool’s grin
How my day went don’t know where to begin
Like hiding how hopeless I feel within
Please pour me a glass of tonic and gin

Unfold my cramped arms from across my chest
Been all day since I took a real deep breath
Work shakes me up get all fizzy when stressed
Sometimes my life is like dancing with death

At last I cross through the portal of home
It’s time to check my baggage at the door
Always good to hear a hearty ‘welcome’
Such simple greeting is hard to ignore

Not keeping apart two worlds is a sin
Where one leaves off let another begin

Alligator Skin (4 u mom)

She has courage so she stands tall
She is a rock, she is a wall
She's got faith that never waivers
She's got skin like an alligator

She's unbreakable, she's impervious
Years of constant struggle made her this
And look at what circumstances gave her
She's got skin like an alligator

How you may ask, could she withstand
What would surely defeat the common man?
But she never let her dark days break her
She's got skin like an alligator

For she has seen all that she has loved
Taken from her even flesh and blood
And yet she smiles she's no complainer
She's got skin like an alligator

To hope, to believe how could she dare
With haters and naysayers everywhere
Well she's got faith, and she says favour
She's got skin like an alligator

To be black and a woman one things for sure
It's the reason for hardships she has endured
She says love prevails cuz love is greater
She's got skin like an alligator

And for all her efforts and tireless labour
They still owe, they never paid her
One day maybe they'll appreciate her
No matter, she's got skin like an alligator.

Inside Out (SPOKEN WORD)

Your words cut me
so DEEP.
Tearing my flesh
from my bones.
Leaving it for the
vultures to devour.
This is how you made
me feel since i can
r. e. m. e. m. b. e. r.
EXPOSED
OPEN
for all the world to
see the torment and
tragedy you caused me.
Trying to pull out of
this with some semblance
of positivity.
Yet there is none for
me to see.
Promising myself never
to be the image of you.
Never to let you change
my life to fit your needs.
Only grow and love like
never before.
Somewhere out there is
happiness for me.
I just need to reach out
for it with both hands
and pull it into me.
I deserve this day of
smiles.
I deserve to be here and
say LORD you have shown
me the way.
I get down on my knees
crying out to HIM our
father saying thank you
for watching out for me.
For without you i could
of never found this
freedom i seek.
This family i ache for.
I could never have turned
into the real me you see
before you now.
Thank you for seeing me
and the person i could be
if i just let her free.

The Beat Of Life Goes On

Mom got up early and is in the kitchen
Preparing the breakfast for everyone
Dad's still in the bathroom and is shaving
And the beat of life goes on

The kids are busy getting set for school
One is still trying to get homework done
The others are taking things really cool
And the beat of life goes on

Now all sit around the breakfast table
To fuel themselves for the day's action
Each consumes what he or she is able
And the beat of life goes on

Dad leaves the home for his workplace early
Mom patiently checks the kids one by one
To ensure that for school each is ready
And the beat of life goes on

Dad is at work earning his salary
Kids are at school getting education
Mom is at home with some chores she's busy
And the beat of life goes on

It's suppertime now for the family
And it's filled with lively conversation
Each one partakes of the meal heartily
And the beat of life goes on

After supper, mom tidies the kitchen
Then joins the rest watching television
Later, for next day each starts preparing
And the beat of life goes on

The kids get busy with their assignment
Mom and Dad continue to linger on
They chat a bit about now the day went
And the beat of life goes on

Then finally they all head off to bed
For much needed sleep and relaxation
To refresh each for the new day ahead
And the beat of life goes on

Mom got up early and is in the kitchen
Preparing the breakfast for everyone
Dad's still in the bathroom and is shaving
And the beat of life goes on
