who's choice....

the beat of a heart
reveals your plight
to young to give
to young to fight
do you accept your fate
is it destiny's date
your life a precipice
no need to berate
choices are
sometimes an err
tender your life
wonders to occur
will you or won't you
your mind a maze
how to find your way
through the haze........

Bits and Pieces

A shrunken elderly man sits in his comfy chair
his mind wanders far back through the many years
he thinks back to the former ladies and that affair
one his wife discovered, what a fuss, so now he adheres

not that it matters much any longer, she is long gone
ah that affair, the thought brings a sparkle to his eye
she was surely a really bonny lass wearing her Saigon
startling eyes of dazzling blue, graceful as a butterfly

he chuckled at his thoughts and enjoyed his memories
even if he could not walk now unless he was assisted
no-one could take his thoughts, he still did his ditties
which made people laugh as they read what he jotted

a scholar of life he had been, a couple of books he had written
he had travelled to many far away and exotic remote places
he remembered a bushman, they had tea and he was bitten
by a swarm of ants, he shook them out and did up his laces

each one happy, with treasures that time could not dim
but most of all these days, he liked all the visits he got
from his daughter and the grandkids loved hugging him
beams all over their faces shining out like a kumquat

as day turned to night he thought to himself, I have lived my life
without squandering or wasting it, I took great pleasure from it
definitely shared plenty with others, really enjoyed the nightlife
what more can one ask at the end of the day when its time to submit

The Deer

Grazing on lush green leaves, the carm of the trees,
The soft whistle of the wind, no hint of danger, the sun warm on his back, his tail flicking the stray fly.

The wind changed slightly and the warm earthy smell of
Something unknown hits his nose, he stops and his senses
Come alive, he turns his head in the direction of the smell.

As his eyes notice the Man standing with a coat on and a gun
Pointed right at the deers heart, the world seems to stop,
The bullet is like a white hot arrow singing as it comes
It rips into his side and the force makes the deer stumble.

As he sinks to the ground his breathing slowing down, his heartbeats slowly stopping, he watches the Man walk over to him and kneel down, he feels the warm strong hand gently stoke his neck and a strange carm comes over him, his eyes close and his soul lifts up and drifts into a place of peace, his body is lifted and carried over broard shoulders, respected by the Man who send his soul to heaven.

About this poem:
My son went hunting for the first time with his new father in law.
I have mixed feelings, I know hes a Man now, but I see the boy who animals just love.
I saw a pic of him with the deer he killed and I see the Man, but I also see his eyes and how it worried him:-)
A mother sees below what others see.
I like to think the deer felt like this?

MY BABY

My baby's gone and left me.
I lie awake at night.
Is she alright?

My baby's gone and left me.
No longer to see.
Does she miss me?

My baby's gone and left me.
Tears are in my eyes.
Ain't no surprise.

My baby's gone and left me.
I wish her no strife.
Light of my life.

Precious Life

"Precious Life "

I've tried solving mathematical equations
but they all failed my hearts design
I then searched for absolution
but all I lost was time
I turned over every rock
and all I found was hurt
I then looked up to the stars
to find my place on earth
But no matter where I was
God was always near
He took me by my hand
and led me far away from fear
He brought me perfect a peace
when I didn't know what to do
Then He gave me precious life
and said that I love you

The Alcoholics Phase

Growing up was hard, you had to do it fast.
Walking on eggshells, trying to keep quiet, just to please him.
Yelling and screaming back and forth is abuse of the worst kind.
It leaves no visible scars.
Driving you nuts, just waiting around for one last gulp.
Passed out anywhere, anyhow, i don't care.
Hush, hush. Be quiet. Please don't wake up the drunk.

About this poem:
I wrote this about my dad when I was a teenager. From the time I was 8 years old til I was 14 my mom worked 2nd shift and i had to take care of my younger brother and my dad because he was always drunk. When this was published my dad threw me out of the house and didn't speak to me for 4yrs. I forgave my dad and we are very close today.

An ANZAC'S daughter..........

When my gran died we all cried
For an era had certainly passed
My grandfathers legacy of her war pension home
Was now out of my mothers grasp
Bequeathed to be Sold
The words may somehow have read
To be shared with her only sibling
Whose life was way better than led
But my mothers resolve was always guided
By the one she adored the most
Her faith led to a fisherman's shack
A mere five minute walk to the coast
Where her love for the sea
Did reveal and heal the scars of past
With daily walks and her cigarettes
An irony of years she would last
But it was the shack that blessed her twilight years
And gave her so much joy
Perched on the side of a hill
It looked almost coy
Amidst a stand of huge Pines
And the odd Eucalypt or two
A giant Jacaranda leered
For all passing by to view
A home for all the possums
And any other critters passing by
The notes from her piano
Would soothe my mothers sigh.........

About this poem:
My Grandfather would be very proud of his daughters resilience to the Wars Of Life........unfortunately he left behind two beautiful girls under the age of twelve........He led tours in Egypt and PNG and died in hospital after contracting an infection from injury ........I visited his grave in a war cemetery just four hours north of here...... I wrote this for all the people that were affected by his passing........They too have passed.........Love and peace too all those suffering the atrocities of war around the world ........May it stop quickly so my sons and there sons can still appreciate the beauty of on ever diminishing world.....

we endure

I got your picture in my cabin
your smiling face is everywhere
your ghost is what I sail on
through the ocean of your hair
and my work it takes me everywhere
and nowhere fast and slow

it takes a man to plough an acre
it takes a woman to make it grow

the sea elevates my singing
despite my ungrateful tone
my thoughts are made of music
my thoughts are mine alone
then you wander warm inside my mind
like a gift from god to me

it takes a man to bring his story
it takes a woman to set him fee

girl we never did much talking
and when we did it was so brief
we laughed about eachother
and we smiled through pain and grief
you made the mundane magic
and you fought hard for your dream

it takes a man to set a plough right
it takes a woman to hitch a team

there's an empty chair that held you
a rare creature tall and true
if life has taught me one thing
Ive learned it all from you
and you laughed at my cowboy movies
as I turned into my old man

it takes a man to work his heart out
it takes a woman to give a damn

Always Here............

Come rest your weary bones
And gaze out across the sea
This place was my paradise
And meant the world to me
Share your words and thoughts
And paint your memory
Relax in the timbers
Designed by my family
My spirit lays within the breeze
Under the shade of the casuarina trees
And in their thoughts I still surround
Their hopes and dreams that still abound
Forever together with thoughts in mind
Come rest your weary bones
And I’ll share with you kind .........

Memories of Mom (MOM)

We all have special memories of our Mom

Playing outside until she would holler come

The times we held her hand and felt safe

Or when she punished us with tears on her face

The first to tell me about my Savior

Telling me to follow his example for my behavior

Pointing to his picture on my bedroom wall

Saying He protects me if I but call

Store these precious memories everyday

For future times when you can remember and say

Thank you Mom for all you have done

For giving me these precious memories for when you are gone
