Prison

This body is a prison,
From which I'll never leave
My flesh is iron bars
Made to confine me.

My soul is so much more
Than this body could ever hold
But yet Im trapped within
My freedom has been sold.

My warden is my pain
It tells me how I can live
And though I try to do my best
Ive little left to give

Im bound to this existence
Its the lot that I've been dealt
And I will bear this burden
Of my living, painful cell.

What

What path is taken
Cannot be taken back
And footprints mark
And wash away
Like memories we thought
Would be remembered
A journal always open
Better left blank

Temporary Release.

Staunch message to all, delivered with stealth,
A wise old proverb..."Your health is your wealth",
Terrified at the start, thought I wouldn't pull through,
Began penning a verse, for my pulpit adieu,
Bruised and depleted from chemo injections,
A pale hairless body fuelled naked reflections,
Such penetrating fear in my children's eyes,
As I hid the truth, in my happy disguise,
Strangely I decided for me I'd not weep,
Instead to find courage, my spade to dig deep,
Never to lose hope or Never to give in,
No more thoughts of ending, only begin,
Not 'till all glimmers of life have long ceased,
And my rancid remains lie a cold crawling feast,
Even then my spirit will survive in a poem,
My soul still intact through the verses will roam,
You'll never hear me whinge or show any regret,
Nor will I celebrate, if reprieve I beget,
Defiant yet resinged in ankle chains to be...
Always cancer's prisoner, ....but today I walked free !

About this poem:
Recently I had a worrying health scare
but thank God all tests and scans were clear.
I wrote this little poem in the hospital car park.
I need to say......
It was Cancer that made me write so without it
I wouldn't be part of this lovely family-like corner.
Thanks for all your reads and comments.
Special thanks to "C" for kind support ,
and "L" for prayers.
Onwards and upwards..........Mick.

DEPRESSION

I don't claim to be an authority on the definitive nature of depression
even though my entire adult life it's been a cumbersome possession
Many in our society are still ignorant enough to ridicule the validity
their cognizance needless to say is unquestionably void of lucidity

Because of personal experience these symptoms I can honestly convey
"Peace of Mind" you wish for each day gets overthrown by dismay
How and what you see and feel is no longer symbolic of the before
the ZEST you once had your disposition won't allow you to restore

Zoloft everyday before breakfast is an aperitif I despise but MUST take
failing to medicate worsens depression putting your mental health at stake
Anti-Depressant's are poison but suicide certainly skyrockets without them
"Brain Fog" is guaranteed and conducive to needed focus remaining dim

This disheartening affliction does literally Zap motivation to leave home
I know with 'severe depression' you can't stop suicidal thoughts that roam
The Band-Aid of Drugs is their only true inspiration not producing a cure
during this life depression to some degree every human is bound to endure

Clearly no amount of fame or fortune saves one from unfathomable inner grief
when Misery reaches unbearable death is increasingly the option for relief
Humans consistently create new technology but nothing to eradicate disease
after defeating 'Polio' they put any serious thought of future cures on freeze

Shouldering the weight of depression all my life has been rough
battling such agony will leave you spent no matter how tough

A little chat

My heart woke me in pain last night,

My mind was awake having coffee and writing in dreams, how can I help? come here, sit! I´m listening.

Heart said: why?

You´ll never know, don´t ask stupid questions, did it hurt?

Yeap, it did. It wasn´t fair ...you know, I don´t wanna...

Did he do it on purpose? No, I´m sure he didn´t.

Then, sing and come here, let´s write together, Solitude will come in a while ...ah you silly! don´t be afraid, we will not leave you alone in darkness, you have us, we´ll always protect you.

The end.

Life

LIFE
Life is like a river it has it's
Ups and downs.
We all have our ups and downs.
Friends they come and go
.
But with the special few try
holding on to them.
Remember the good times
forget the bad times.
.
Remember the good remarks
you received in live.
forget the bed ones.
.
Always remember you only have
one change at life, live it good.
Remember you only have one family.
Pray & hope its the only way you'll get by ..

Piscean Peace

silence tide
waves of comfort
soothe my ears
cool my soul
wash my heart
liquid quiet
with closed eyes
some imagine death
dark and still
dormancy mine
transcendence
welcome
spirit released
to wander
explore
return
wringing wet
with rejuvenation
in perfect balance
ready to battle
on this
desert dry
clamorous
land

Keys

Clipped wings and hobbled ankles
His idea of love
Blinders and in a box
His idea of love
Why did I give him the keys?

A jogger jogs to clear the head
I have heard that said
A dancer dances and the artist paints
For the glory of the audience or for
The pleasure of expression?

Such a big world
No physical boundaries to restrict
Yet, I have become at risk
To have wings clipped and hobbled ankles
Handed the keys over in the name of love

UNDERARM AROMA

WHEN I TRAVEL ON THE BUS, IT'S SO STRONG; IT PUTS ME IN A COMA! THERE SHOULD BE, A LIGHT OR SIREN, THAT COMES ON, WHEN SOMEONE ATTEMPTS TO BOARD THE BUS; WITHOUT SHOWERING! THIS WAY; THEY'D GO HOME AND CLEAN UP; AND THAT TO ME, IS QUITE, TOWERING! I SAY; DO UNTO OTHERS; WELL, YOU KNOW THE REST! WHETHER, RICH, OR POOR; YOU HAVE TO STRIVE ,TO BE, AT YOUR BEST! IF YOU CAN'T AFFORD, A WELL KNOWN PRODUCT; WHITE VINEGAR, WILL DO NICELY; WITHOUT BEING, EXOTIC! LET'S ALL GO THROUGH LIFE, SMELLING CLEAN! I SAY THIS; WITH RESPECT TO ALL! NOW; LET'S CONQUER, THE DIRT DEMONS; AND, HAVE A BALL!

Pills

Pills
They come in different sizes
Some are hard
Some come in a plastic like capsule form
Why do they cost so much
My doctor prescribed me two medications
That came to over 1,000 bucks for a three month supply
I won't take them anyway because if I start I can't stop
Stopping them might give me a heart attack
What about the disabled who don't have to pay the bill
They must have thousands of tax dollars wasted by greedy doctors
Doctors more interested in their brick driveways and castles
Than the real health of their patients
If doctors really cared
They would tell you to eat right and exercise an hour a day
Not give you poison pills

About this poem:
The price of those meds about gave me a heart attack. I couldn't believe it. I have a friend who is on disability and he is prescribed hundreds of dollars worth of meds each month, most he doesn't even take, but the bill still goes to the taxpayers.
