youtube "LET THEM BE LITTLE" by anyone

There have been songs, poems and discussions ad infinitum on this subject, here’s my attempt at being whatever the rest of you are and I ain’t

ELECTRIC PAINS

They told me this would happen
But surely not to me
They said there are certain things life cannot abide
And one of those facts doesn’t come for free

We would go places and they would all remark
As I thanked God for what they were looking at
But no matter how I prayed, beseeched and I begged
Right beside me on a chair is where my future sat

Everything was the best, everything was great
Everything was everything I ever wanted all in one
One very little package but prized more than gold
And I remember when I could still use the word “fun”

Now when I say the word “fun it seems strange and aloof
And I suppose it’s the same thing with the word “joy”
It’s difficult to talk in terms of things you miss so
Like little Frannie in fourth grade and my favorite toy

I tried to avoid accepting what every one else expected
I tried to turn a “cannot” into a “can be” for me
Then one night as I went to turn off the light
Even though it was dark I still could easily see

It was something I tried to ward off for so many years
But with surety in reality there are things a mere mortal can’t delay
Suddenly electric trains and baseball cards became things of the past
Because they can’t stay little forever and my baby leaves for college today

this is un-important compared TO GROWING DAISIES

DID WILL, BILL AND GIL GET THEIR PILL?

I have this great idea to invent a pill
Make it so men can get pregnant as well
Dudes walking around in camouflage
Get a huge belly and know pregnancy is an un-earthly hell

This pill will be mandated and mandatory to ingest
Let’s let men do what women have been doing since Eve
Let the future climb out of Walter’s womb
With little baskets to make and baby blankets to weave

So mommy is in one hospital room and daddy’s in another
And our peaceful home will be noisy for quite a while
One kid from her and the other one from him
And the dad wonders how his wife can summon a smile

Don’t all of you get it, there’s been a problem for years
And we should have monitored each and every birth
Because all we’ve accomplished is a problem made worse
And doesn’t everyone understand we are over-populating the earth?

H E R S

HERS

The impresario’s impressive and imperialistic chalice of beauty owned it
And made no bones about it
All the documents were signed properly
Which thusly did make it her property
She used it for reasons and purposes for which it was made
Until the music might be made to fade

From the costume of her countenance did the lovely’s corsage come to fall upon the ground

As any man would swear to be the permanence finally she hath found
But she suffered not for there were men clawing and clamoring to pick it up
They were slightly built or short and some were very tall
Yes, the imperialistic aura and her glow proved she owned it all

It was her birthright
She was born with it
But never to suffer scorn for it
As her sheep were shorn of their dignity and/or pride
When the crown of luxury took every royal stride
And deemed a new subject to bid her every call
For this was a lady who truly had it all

She was the law, the layer, the jury and the judge
And men get a spark up their spine if she’d but give them a nudge
I’ve seen the pictures of her beauty which line the second floor hall
Why?
Because the preeminent pretty pretty much owns it all

A street IN A burg CALLED the blues BABY

A STREET IN A BURG CALLED THE BLUES baby

DAMN, BACK ON THE STREET AGAIN!
THE DIME BAG COPPING
EGO DROPPING
DAMPENED DOPE STREET DREAMS AGAIN………….
a street in a burg called the blues BA BY
Where wicked wretched women are on the stroll~
Bopping to rock and roll
As I light upon the utterly wanton wishes of woeful whores
Where even the sages are bores
AND DESTITUTION OOZES FROM THE PORES OF US JUNKIES, JOHNS AND F****D UP FEW
AND FEW KNEW WHAT WE ALL KNEW
BECAUSE IN THE END WHAT ARE WE ALL REALLY TRYING TO DO?
We’re JUST PAYING OUR DUEs, baby
JUST PAYING OUR DUE

B O R N B L I N D T O T H E U N I C U RSE

BORN BLIND TO THE UNICURSE

Please advise me when I can open my eyes
Until then closed shall they be
I’m blinded and deafened to any lies
As angry grows the sea

I refuse to see the sadness I’ve seen
I won’t look at the ugliness mankind can’t deny
So give me a Jack with a beer back and a bit of Grenadine
As angry grows the sky

Were I to open mine eyes as of now I know what I’d see
I’d see the same waste and an eight year old kid with a gun
So why would I want to see the greedy, the needy and junkies like me?
As angry grows the sun

‘tis wrong to see what we’ve done to the earth
And now living on this planet has become a caustic curse
Our society is a monument to the death of merriment and mirth
As angry grows the universe

i hope JAMES DEAN didn't come back as a snail

FED ON SURVIVAL

Not one junkie I know has a test kit for purity
But I can tell you this much with surety
Although we should all be grateful for survival
I’d rather be declared dead on arrival

Frankly I’ve had enough of never being certain
And I begged the stagehand to bring down the curtain
An addict yearns for quality and a cloud like dream
But Then I awake in a hospital and begin to scream

I scream for the friends I’ve lost who were never revived
Shoot, I haven’t even a clue how I have survived
Every day I’m a pearl in peril on a random roulette wheel
Never knowing if I’ll O.D after I consume my last meal

So next time anyone sees me in the gutter simply leave me there
Because I can tell you this much and I’ll make it clear
I’ve never given a damn about religion or the Holy Bible
But I swear on it, please, this time let me be declared dead on arrival

About this poem:
WOULDN'T IT BE FUNNY IF A PERSON ALMOST DYING IS IN AN AMBULANE AND THE AMBULANCE DRIVER HAD A HEART ATTACK?
AND TO NUMBER ONE, SEE, YOU NEED A GOOD SUBJECT MATTER, NOT JUST WORDS STRUNG TOGETHER IMPROPERLY AND FOR NIL!

I DO NOT SEE THIS UNDER "VIEW MY POEMS"

A VIEW FROM BEYOND THE BLUE

I hate to see the world this way
Everything seems like an aimless gray
Over there used to be a cow Pasteur all blazingly green
Now it’s just another iron and concrete scene

Building icons construct latter day dinosaurs against our iconoclastic wishes
So I think for two months a winged angel should do the dishes
Because even angels have duties to perform
And some of them even do it far above norm

But my angel and I look down and cry for a society’s pretense
Weeping for the fools without angels nor sense
Sometimes she says if I want to go down it’s okay
But it’s easy to see in angelic eyes that she prays i stay

There is no way in the world I would return to your world gone awry
I’ll just stay in the breath of white clouds and fantasy’s fog until I die
Because ain’t no reason for me to return except Raggae and rum
And get the valet to pull around our car, but not Jake, he’s too dumb

And you all can do me a favor and entertain me while I look down
I want to see every fool, every bigot and everyone I deem a morose clown
So I’ll just remain up here with my angelic life that keeps me calm
While my angel and I have a wager on when someone will release a nuclear bomb

i do not see this posted to the second power

I WILL NOT DANCE BECAUSE IT’S THE SAME OLD SONG

Walk a high wire
Walk on the third rail
Walk on fire
And I’ll explain all this with one short tale

I thought for sure it wouldn’t get me
I would get it and I got it for sure
You wouldn’t recognize me if you met me
Because I’ve the wounds of a disease no one can cure

There’s about ten thousand things I’d rather do
Then to find and lose a lovely lady like you
I’d rather be caged with a tiger in the zoo
As slowly my disease progressed and grew

So here sit I on the subway steps a victim of what I sought
Never did I think this could happen to me and hurt so very many
Then by a thin tiny needle was I trapped and thusly caught
And no one would believe my story if I revealed my thoughts for a penny

If it was worth any money I’d throttle and choke a cute little rabbit
And when I see an old lady with a diamond I nab it
If a man in a wheel chair is counting his cash I just grab it
Because these are the things a diseased man does every day to sustain his dope habit

Being caught in a bear trap
Watch my brother die and I not care
Find hell with a map
But kick a habit like this I do not dare

AL DI LA MY LOVE

AL DE LA MY LOVE

You and I had everything calculated and planned
We were just following fate and its every command
Two souls were going to find forever in an unexpected land
And neither of us would dare to defy destiny’s demand

We were supposed to last a lifetime together no matter what
That was this man and his lady’s predetermined plot
No one could rattle our teacups or shake up the place
Not as long as two lovers had the other’s embrace

I recall adding and subtracting and then reaching a perfect sum
We were sitting on a settee having biscuits and sharing one glass of rum
We shared everything including time, smiles and each other’s past
But simply because a person says “forever” doesn’t mean it will last

Because you hit a rocky road or a curve at too great a speed
You died and I didn’t believe death could be so easily decreed
We were acting in haste while all the time we thought, devised and planned and sadly together we will never find that forever’s clandestine land
