Love Is A Decision

Love is not based on a feeling only
There must also be a clear decision
Passionate feelings may die off early
Showing it was just infatuation

One should not need another as a crutch
But be able to stand on one's feet
This will allow each other space as such
And enrichen the sharing when both meet

A love relationship has its demands
It does not ensure smooth sailing always
Be mindful of this in each circumstance
And it will help you survive the rough days

The one that you love should be your best friend
Someone with whom you can share everything
A person upon whom you can depend
In situations that can be trying

As time passes, both of you will change
For change is inevitable in life
Do not consider this as something strange
Learn to adjust and avoid any strife

True love is the most precious emotion
That a person can engage in sharing
It fills the heart with blissful elation
Giving one's life a rich sense of meaning

About this poem:
"Love is a decision, it is a judgement, it is a promise. If love were only a feeling, there would be no basis for the promise to love each other forever. A feeling comes and it may go. How can I judge that it will stay forever, when my act does not involve judgement and decision."

- Erich Fromm - (The Art of Loving)

“But let there be spaces in your togetherness. And let the winds of the heavens dance between you. Love one another, but make not a bond of love: Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls.

And stand together yet not too near together: For the pillars of the temple stand apart, And the oak tree and the cypress grow not in each other’s shadow.”

Kahlil Gibran – (The Prophet)

Red Hat

Take off your red hat
shake off those shoes
we both know that
there's nothing left to lose

If I should tell you
while we swing and sway
I feel forever new
my blues just gone away

Meet me by the river
in the evening sun
there'll be time to quiver
before the day is done

And before its midnight
you'll promise not to go
and I'll know its just right
when we tie that bow

Take off your red hat
shake off those shoes
we both know that
there's nothing left to lose

Ovarian

Paris pink
home by Africa
holy communion
east by east

Hula hula
brass retorts
dark glass anxious
figured in spades

Nazi hilltop
morning jaunt
panzer division
siren coast

Old hackneyed lines
jack-knifed Jim
signal jam

All you need

All you need is some love
fits warm like a glove
maybe for you its from above
descends like a dove

All you need is some hope
to ease the prevailing slope
then its much easier to cope
Xmas card from the Pope

All you need is some cheer
to dampen the fear
now what do I care
if some stop and stare

All you need is some dollars
and a good set of molars
the bears are all polars
the cells are all solars

Just a few silly lines
to waste some more time
in these troubling times
I'm just happy to rhyme

I Am A Wildflower

Out in the open meadow
Swaying in the breeze
I am a wildflower
Living a life of ease

The seed from which I grew
Was blown here by the wind
It landed on the earth
And that was my beginning

I am watered by the rain
And fed by the earth
Each of them is dear to me
My life depends on both

My beauty is free for all to see
Even a little child
I love the life I am living
I enjoy being free and wild

Considered Lines You Caused

Considered lines you caused

I sat outside in the sun today, it poured on my face,
And I was in languid contemplation, whilst you were in a race,
I thought of how very dear to me you alone have become,
And how my heart in your hands, may finally have found its true home.

I was thinking of your incomparable wit, when I send you my lines,
How you break me down into more perfectly designed designs,
And how you show me all the things for which there are no words,
And how you take me by the hand into such pleasant new worlds.

I was thinking of you and all the good things you do,
And how you done them not for glory, for so few ever knew,
So few knew the things you done, for no other reason than being good,
And how you took the time to understand, and said little until you understood.

I considered these lines as I drank my coffee on my summer chair,
And how my life would be ever rich, if you were somehow there,
There to share our words, our kindness and all of our joys,
You forgive my imperfections if my words sometimes annoy.

I considered your heart and how so very kind you are,
In the skies of my lonely nights you are my guiding star,
You are bright and sparkling and you add your cosmic dust,
And now you are at my poetic heart’s core, by breaking through the crust.

Nature's Song

as I skim the treetops
gazing all around
birds on nearby branches
joyfully sing their song

looking upwards on high
never ceases to astound
white clouds on a blue sky
looming in the background

glancing downwards
my vision contacts the ground
where water in a nearby stream
gently flows along

leaves that fell from the trees
have all turned to brown
dotting the green grass
growing on the ground

among the fallen leaves
some wildflowers abound
painting a lovely picture
leaving me spellbound

When thunder is about you

When lightning strikes the sodden trees
and bad weather does prevail
steer not from your chosen course
across the hills and dale

When thunder is about you
and the sky delivers hail
keep pace along the country lanes
despite the howling gale

In time the sun will shine again
there is no time to wail
for many a mile is still to go
be sturdy as a rail

Equanimity

There is a state between happiness and sadness
That is a basic human emotion
It provides a relief from life's stresses
And stimulates a mode of deep reflection

To be happy all the time come what may
Is nothing other than a fallacy
So live your life as it unfolds each day
Be honest to yourself most sincerely

Face the good and bad with equanimity
Coping with the bad times may be tougher
Know that all things will pass eventually
And subsequently you will be stronger

Ice dancer

cold ice dancer
raspberry ripped
clean clean glass
muscle stripped

no passion spared
whirling storm
he held her high
strength and form

carving crystals
blade and steel
spotlight night
a show for real

judges gasp
audience hail
pinnacle display
they could not fail

About this poem:
Really enjoyed the ice dancing in Beijing, and those guys are strong holding up partners with one hand, even if they weigh only 50 kg its amazing to see. I'd struggle with 10kg over my head!!
