Pepperoni logic

Steely Dan be damned
pretzels you can't use
I want to tour the Southland
in me ultra fancy shoes

I have never met Napoleon
but I plan to find the time
we'll share some pepperoni
and a margarita topped with lime

we'd get a raucous chorus
a travelling minstrel show
but those days are gone forever
over a long time ago

Peace

Peace flows into me
As the tide to the pool by the shore;
It is mine forevermore,
It will not ebb like the sea.

I am the pool of blue
That worships the vivid sky;
My hopes were heaven-high,
They are fulfilled in you.

I am the pool of gold
When sunset burns and dies –
You are my deepening skies;
Give me your stars to hold.

Two gun Suzie

There's a lamp-stand in the corner
it shine its light down on the floor
a red moon out my window
brought the sheriff to my door

I said the whisky made us frisky
we was fighting tooth and claw
she was dancing on my table
with her body in the raw

Then she stole my sports car
took the money from the drawer
while I was sleeping off the drinking
she was running from the law

Last time I'll bed little Suzie
with the hips you can't ignore
with her two guns and ammunition
and appetite to score

Ode to a meat pie

the meal of one course
not for a horse
on goes the sauce
with legitimate force

mince and cheese
oh yes please
butter chicken
that's what I'm pickin'

steak and veg
I wish to pledge
is comfort food
when in the mood

About this poem:
Studying meat pies, now in America apparently you can get only pot pies, not recommended though I see, but in NY, Michigan, Louisiana and wait for it McRadloff Wisconsin! you can get real meat pies, true?
Florida you get some Latin American equivalents, SM?
Do they put Guinness in the pies in Ireland Mick??

Poem for the cat

rain sings on the iron
the cars they wash on by
my fireside cat he's dryin'
his sleepy night is nigh

I wish I knew his dreaming
but I have no chance to pry
I'm sure its fully teeming
with mice that weren't so sly

and somewhere on a rooftop
beneath the bluest sky
this princely feline's eyeing
the birds that go on by

Things that go clunk in the night

footsteps on the cobbles
scarecrows in the night
where spiders reign and serpents hiss
and fleshy things turn white
where vampires love the darkness
and werewolves crave moonlight
the ghoulish things go ting-a-ling
to the monsters great delight
but all the little children
of whom I have to write
stay fast beneath their covers
safely out of sight

Birds that never flew

Sometimes on a summer
when the skies are blue
I think about those childhood friends
the birds that never flew

Dead and gone by accident
sicknesses we knew
I only hope they're growing tall
on some sweet avenue

A Lovers Lament..

The pain of love.. what can I write,
To warn about this 'thing',
Its beauty can impair your sight,
Then like a wasp will sting.

Love at first sight ? I'm not so sure,
Approach on tippy toes,
Flirtatious eyes might be a lure,
To tears and lifelong woes.

Some love is destined not to last,
And fails the test of time,
Like actors in a play miscast,
Or verse devoid of rhyme.

This poem is written half in jest,
And half in searing pain,
But every word I can attest,
Is penned not in disdain.

For me .. in lovelife I was stung,
My heart it bore the cost,
And there at love's cold graveside flung,
A red rose white with frost.

White van man

I've got a white van cruiser
with windows very dark
I'm passing by the girls' school
they like to have a lark
try to give me candy
tempt me to the park
they know I'm close to 60
an easy kind of mark

serpentine blue

from ridge to sea
sure drift of gulls
sea pilots
submarine view

a harlots nest
on a blood ocean
did you find me
valentine true

shoreline escape
to the wind
are we rising
serpentine blue

warm river winds
from the valleys
that knew us
crystalline hue
