RE: Jimmy Savile

Not DLT as well? wow

RE: How can we let this happen!

Base it on democracy, equality and human rights as opposed to an outdated religious monopoly. Rewrite the constitution with the people at the centre. It would be a nice change.

RE: How can we let this happen!

There are no words I can express without being accused of being a bigot. Was that clinic they were protesting about in the six counties not precisely for this purpose? High time we started ignoring the opinions of these Neanderthals and introduced a modern republic. This would not have been allowed to happen anywhere else.

RE: Why people do the things they do?

I suspect it's comfort you're needing and not an answer to your question but for what it's worth I suspect you moved in together too quickly and with the businesses, you are possibly just too involved with each other.

Much as we might like it to be different, it takes time to get to know someone and see through the outer veneer. Many people are good at the honeymoon period of a relationship but falter later on when the mundanity of life comes in. I keep saying this and nobody listens: LOVE IS NOT AN EMOTION! It's a commitment and a responsibility....AND A CHOICE. He's looking for an emotional charge now since the relationship has become the norm. Perhaps you are too. Only you can answer that question.

But I wish you well. You were brave enough to at least try, which is certainly a lot further than I've got of late. The memory of that pain you're feeling is what keeps me out of relationships.

RE: What are Australians known for.

Erm jacs, I don't know how to break this to you but New South Wales isn't actually in Wales! grin

RE: what are the american's known for..?

Having been late for the first 2 world wars, they're determined to be early for the 3rd one even if that means causing it! laugh

RE: What are Australians known for.

All the men are called Bruce. All the women are called Sheila! professor

RE: what are the english known for..?

Sorry, I'm talking about Collosus here. The first programable computer. The Boolean Algebra had been worked out centuries before and used by Charles Babbage and his difference engine.

RE: what are the english known for..?

You're quite right of course but it wasn't programmable and was so unreliable, they gave up on it. A Post Office Engineer named Tommy Flowers made it out of valves and odds and ends of telephone equipment for the Enigma code breakers at Bletchley Park in England during WW2.

Sadly, it was so top secret that it could not be spoken about after the war so no credit was given till after his death.

Computers as we know them today were not possible till the invention of the Silicon Shottky Diode in 1947. That is when electronics was really born with the invention of semi conductors. Suddenly everything from transistor radios to programmable devices were accessable to the market.

RE: what are the english known for..?

Steam Engine..... James Watt.....Scottish not English
Penecillin.........Alexander Flemming.......again Scottish

and many many more.

RE: Almost 70% fail to vote!

I find it hard to take these votes seriously as they just ask you to vote again if they don't like the result. The result of course is yet another erosion of citizen's rights.

Judging by past history, I can't think of any organisation being in a worse position to be legislating on the well being of children. dunno

RE: what would you want to do in the united states on your first visit

Rocky Mountains for me. Denver Colarado sounds wonderful. Like Scotland but bigger and higher. Oh and take the steam train journey too. boogie

Heating Oil Prices

Changing to gas isn't an option. I'm just looking for comparissons to make sure I've not been done. If it's around a euro a litre everywhere, that's ok. conversing

Heating Oil Prices

Getting harder and harder I'm afraid but at least we're in the same ball park. I'd get a whole gallon more than ye. bouquet

Heating Oil Prices

I just paid €250 for 255 litres of heating oil. That is abot 98 cents per litre. Is this average or am I being over charged? dunno

RE: Should he still be expected to pay rent.

thumbs up thumbs up thumbs up

RE: Should he still be expected to pay rent.

I think this is the key point. If he is her sole carer and she cannot look after herself with safety and dignity, then no, he should not pay rent. Here, he would probably be awarded a carer's allowance.

But what I do have a bit of trouble understanding is how he can have his own income and a career whilst caring for someone who is helpless.

RE: SKYFALL is the best Bond movie ever!

Moore was far too smarmey and exagerated for my liking. And then with JAWs and the stupid names like Dr. Goodhead etc, it was more like Carry on Spying. conversing

RE: SKYFALL is the best Bond movie ever!

Of all the movies I haven't seen yet, this is definitely the best! conversing

RE: Do you ever suffer from back pain

Yes. my ex said I was spineless! mumbling

RE: Ebay

Nah. When you do the mileage I do on the roads around here, it pays to stick to genuine parts. doh

RE: Jan's Wildlife Forum - Part 3 (plus other nerdy stuff)

You'd need one hell of a mousetrap and a small army platoon to set the spring. Cheese that size ain't that cheap either.
