Broken

Bombs explode spring air
Pellets break skin, sever lives
elusive peace, come.

19 Fire Fighters - June 30, 2013

Strong men. Young men. Brave men, one and all,
left their families to do what they do best.
A fire, a sudden wind gone crazy,
cornered the 19 and laid them to rest.

We can only imagine their fear;
the thoughts that surely raced through each mind.
Families, friends and a nation grieve and share,
the shattered dreams of those left behind.

Tonight we gather and light our candles,
while draping our prayers over those in pain.
We call forth angels of comfort and healing,
for those whose lives will never be the same.

I can lend my arms and speak from the heart.
I can lend my shoulder, or steady their stride.
I can listen and try to understand this,
but my tears are something I cannot hide.

Tonight I stand with dear ones and strangers,
as one of God's soldiers, my resolve strong.
We honor the spirit of each soul lost...
They've come home to you, Lord, where they belong.

About this poem:
The saddness of the last two days is something I can't begin to describe. The details of this horrilbe and tradgic event are etched in my mind. I can't begin to understand what these families and the friends of these men are feeling. I wrote this poem, here and now and share it with heavy heart. I ask for your prayers also for these families. The unborn children who will never know their fathers. I ask for a moment of silence. A moment to reflect and find some gratitude from this day. Make an amends. Tell those you love that you love them. Life is short, precious and unpredictable. Blessed be.

Goodbye to MDF

Yesterday suddenly you were taken
I recently spoke with you it seems
Now you are no longer here with us
And it feels like a horrible dream

How can someone be that cruel
So angry to the point
That he or she could take your life
While leaving ours in disjoint

It is still unbelievable that
I no longer will
hear Your voice or see your face
Now all from you is still

We have only now our memories
To recall your own sweet smile
We say to you in our own way
Adieu and good bye

PEACE

In a seemingly crazy world ,may we not necessarily forget but strive to overcome our yesteryears
Move on in unity and peace with love for our fellow human beings instead of being crippled by hatred and fear
On this our borrowed land that’s been stained by innocent shed blood and drenched from grieving wept tears
Move forward together, irrespective of when or where one came, what was brought or sought

Some may abuse generiousity but in a world of such inequality, injustice, how can we just look the other way, bury our heads in the sand
For who does it all really belong to anyway, why not offer a helping hand ?
Who gave a Robin his song to be sung and who can say where he was born is where he shall only belong ?
And, whos place is it to declare, to shout, or say who is really right, or who is wrong ?
Who shall throw the first stone, if the truth be known who is right to cast any blame ?
Who really deserves to be clothed in robes made from shame ?

We’ve had too many wars where the heavy burden of evil came to rest upon the shoulders of young soldiers
Who believed and declared that peace was the food they fought for, I wonder how it tasted
when so many gifted lives around them were cut down in their prime so tragically wasted ?

Where did the melting pot go, does anyone know ?
Does it, or should it matter who is right or wrong ?
Or, from which religious organization you may, or may not belong
Who said we must humiliate, segregate, isolate, kill, destroy
someone else’s prescious, beloved girl or boy.

We cannot change the past only try to change the future, have hope and a purpose for which to aim
So let us all rise up against such evil, stop playing this destructive blaming, shaming game.
Stand up and be counted, claim victory, wear a crown of great pride and dignity again
Let’s not waste time trying to propagate, exterminate but instead try protect the children of the future, try embrace
And do so now, today, before all of tommorows promises expire, vanish, gone without a trace !

Good Bye Dear Friend

Everything in this life is ours, briefly.
Those we love are sometimes taken too soon.
My mind hasn't wrapped around your parting,
I think as I stare at the haloed moon.

I have all these fond memories of you,
when we were struggling to find some peace.
Trying to make sense of broken dreams then,
and learning to make the craziness cease.

Know I will miss you with all of my heart!
Thank you for being the friend that you were.
I'll always remember the blessings shared,
and I'll not allow those fine lines to blurr.

About this poem:
In memory of a very special woman: Donna W. Dear friend of 22 years. I found out tonight my dear friend had passed from an ongoing struggle with lung disease. The end came quickly and it's a reminder to us all to live well, laugh often and love without condition. Yesterday was the one year anniversary of the sister's passing. If there is someone you haven't forgiven in this life, do it. If someone seeks forgiveness from you, grant it. It's a win win situation. A moment of silence for all of us feeling the sting of loss right now. Blessings.

MOM

Mom, you left this vile world on Oct. 4, 2008
the utter cruelty of your passing I'll always hate
for a moment every day I cry for you inside
when you exhausted your last breathe I too died

Crushing emptiness since you left mother dear
love and thoughts of you could never disappear
Gatherings minus you lacks meaning like before
honestly they aren't looked forward to anymore

Mom I hope you forgave any hurt I caused you
inducing pain one thing I'd never purposely do
Most important was showing how deeply I cared
forever cherishing every single moment we shared

Love for you stronger than any words could convey
sorry if I made you doubt that for even a day
Saying "I hope I die before you" wasn't being insane
losing you brings to fruition my most undesirable pain

I knew your spouse induced unhappiness for years
your sadness I couldn't ease kept my soul in tears
You weren't just mom you were my only friend
hopeful we'll reunite after my life reaches its end

Numb

Too much treachery
Too much lechery
Too much sorrow
No thought of tomorrow
I feel numb
I feel comfort in numb
Too much deceit
Too much incomplete
Too much adversity
Too much perversity
I feel numb
I feel comfort in numb
Too much hate
Too much debate
Too much pain
Too much disdain
I feel numb
I feel comfort in numb
Too much yet to come
Too much last crumb
To much memory past
Not enough love to last
I feel numb
I feel comfort in numb
I feel what was you and me
And I long for feelings that used to be

Loss

The world didn't stop
The day angels carried you home
No one saw my pain
I was completely alone

The world kept on spinning
Even though mine had ended
People kept laughing
I couldn't comprehend

How they couldn't notice
My heart was breaking
My brother was gone...
I could imagine Angels singing

In my mind, I saw Gary in Heaven
Catching up with those who went on before
Finally at peace...
Smiling the smile I adore

I still feel his loss
I miss him everyday
Time is supposed to make it easier
It still hurts, just in a different way

~A last lost tear~

A millenium it seemed when it rolled down her cheek
Eyes lit like sun in fathoms of wet
She'd not asked for this
Yet her heart took her there
Vision obscure with mind full aware

Calendars in cradle each day marks an X
Expired as they lay on the counter in view
Was her heart brought her here
Flame burned so bright
Eleven in the pile workin on twelve

To the minute of day was his last gentle kiss
That last tear was found when her heart let it go~
