A Winter's Thaw

Melt water swashes over jagged ice
Warm southern breeze lift high my piney boughs
From sleepy dens do gentle days entice
Awakened forest dweller cause to rouse

Wash warmer my face in your golden rays
Make my step bounce a little brighter yet
With nature walks the youth of early days
And all her promises of spring be met

For a winter's thaw in my heart be kept
Close by this meadow's memories be born
Running down where the flood waters be swept
Washing me clean over rocks well be worn

Dances a warm winter's glowin' sunbeam
Does make my world a little less extreme

About this poem:
A reflective poem sharing some introspective thoughts and feelings about winter life when after many frozen days comes a little January thaw which 'more' than serves to refresh a winter-weary soul. :)))

Why? Why? Why?

Winter is hot, summer is hell, the rain is fire.
Sunrise no more, seeing no color.
Pain is usual, hurt is normal.
The tide is always low, the pressure is high though.

The wind is gone with a dark shadow,
see the colored water every where,
That black sky is a predator created by mankind.
Pointing the blame not facing a mirror, Oh what a lame!

Polluted brain, materially ruled heart.
Wake up stones, fly and pray to the skies.
The door won't open for sure.
Silly as results were long shown, but neglected by most morons!

Why? Why? Why?

misty moon

misty moon
i spy you there
under clouds
with silent stare
why so glum
are you not aware
the gown your wearing
has no despair
'tis but makeup
passing by
on the face
of wondrous eye
let the breeze
bring back your smile
let the breeze
caress your style
wonder no more
for you tonight
for your smile
i will see
shining bright........

A Quiet Shoreline

Scarcer are days when the world feels so light
Boundless energy into dreaming eyes
Reflections of stars luminating night
When deep into dark fissures no fear lies

In my grateful walk is my head held high
Nothing in my way I take a sure stride
On a path of life that's more a journey
Across the quiet shoreline at low tide

Over sand still wet and firm my feet glide
Barely a trace to mark I have passed by
The dark sea only a hush by my side
Time moves as fast as the blink of an eye

In solitude I hear my own heart beat
With no good cause at all to drag my feet

About this poem:
The sonnet is reflective of a quiet nightime stroll down by the sea
on those rare occurrances when the sea is calm and all the stars are out shining brightly. I contemplate what I must do to capture this feeling and make it last in my mind.

Surreal Nature (haibun)

Walking through the sweet flower meadows, I pause to watch the sky lark
as he tumbles joyously in the sunlit sky and perches on a branch
to sing in such sweet melody that mistle thrush and blackbird join in.

Flowers smelling sweet
in such a variety
of colour and shape

A peaceful place to sit and enjoy all nature has to offer
to lean back and let go of every day stress and woes. To
celebrate just the joy of being alive and able to enjoy nature

Nature does her best
if only we care to look
at all her splendours

All Colours Are In

Colour floods this world of ours
everywhere it bursts and flows out
as it rains the colours reflect
in bands of yellows, reds and blues

Violet, orange, greens and indigo
making such a colourful splash
if you are lucky at its end
a pot of silver and gold awaits

Vibrant hues colour the forests
with shades of emerald and amber
our lakes sparkle in blue and white
as its waters tumble over the rocks

Lush flowers adorn the gardens
striped with natures pallet
trumpet bulbs of purple and red
each vying with its neighbour

A world without colour so gloomy
made of blacks, browns and greys
muted and drab they drain life away
leaving a world much too empty

Pastels bring back our hopes
as they lend themselves to nature
after all it is on this her canvas
that she paints her own picture

La Neige

Crystal flakes of gentle measure
tingle on my tongue
Just like the way if felt when
I was oh so very young.
The sun is bright,my breath is cold-
it comes out like a cloud...
Dancing , disappearing far above
the crystal shrouds.
The blankets softly decorate the hills
and winsome trees
In silent adoration of the glory
of the freeze.
I close my eyes-stand very still
enraptured in delight;
And soon the diamonds in the sky
have ushered in the night.
The beauty of the evening gently
soothes my naked soul,
Just like the ones that came before
in ancient days of old.
Resplendent in her flowing grace,
eternal she goes on-
In humble honor do I bow
before the great beyond.

Moon Stars Lake

Moon casting shadows
as it shines down through the trees
forming eerie shapes

Exploding stars shoot
across the sky leaving trails
glittering behind

Still mysterious
the lake gleaming in moonlight
silver in beauty

Leopard

Motionless the big cat waits
deep in the scrub shadows
sun starting to set, night draws in
fading light makes her invisible

Only the odd flick of an ear
that gives her position away
suddenly she tenses and coils
a spurt of speed and its done

She and her cubs will eat tonight
softly the mother leopard calls
with a few rustles of undergrowth
they tumble into the moonlight

Furry balls of fun without a care
they belly up to the deer carcass
a few more weeks learning the ropes
then a solitary life awaits them all

Of the four she now has with her
maybe one will make it through
struggling with the strife of living
whilst fighting to rear her own cubs

For now they are safe and well tended
with a soft cry she takes them back
to her well hidden clifftop cave
they are all safe for yet another day

Four Haiku's

Icy is the breeze
as it flows over the Tundra
making big snow drifts

Cheeky monkey waits
until your back is turned
then steals all your fruit

Golden ray of sun
blazing paths full of sunlight
warms as it touches

Rain teeming downward
flooding the marshy grasslands
beware the bog lands
