dark clouds

dark clouds
hovering in the sky
permeate my being
creating a state
of sombre calmness
deep within the core
of my psyche

unperturbed
by distractions
in the environment
I find tranquility
and peaceful serenity
in the innermost depths
of my being

my psychic energy
links with
the cosmic energy
underlying
the unity of all things
pervading space and time
inducing in me
feelings
supreme and sublime

I sense
some ultra dimension
an ocean of energy
to which the
life energy of
all living things return
after the last breath
is taken

SPARKLES

Embedded image from another site

Little dusts of diamonds sparkling everywhere
On cards – decorations – and in the air
Snow dust in winter – frost in the fall
Sun shining through raindrops to enthrall

After Christmas in carpets – a path to walk
They are all year grabbing onto your sock
Tiny little flashes of bright light catching your eye
Encouraging you as you hurry on by

I love sparkles as my family well knows
Don’t send her a card unless sparkles on it glow
Others say plain is better but to me seem too dull
Sparkles brighten up my day and make it full

For light reflects off these little cheerful bits
Shining and cheering you on not to quit
When life at times gets depressing and dull
They are there lighting up like little angels

Troubled Planet. (southmiami Haiku Challenge)

depleting woodland
global warming increasing
nature sadly mournes

~~~~~~
climate change rampant
oceans evaporating
clouds cry acid rain
~~~~~~

behind the smiles...angst
behind prosperity...debt
behind it all...greed.

February

February
A desperate frost
On the sharp edge of ice.
In the palm of your hand: thorns
Of roses,
Slightly contrived neurosis
And melt water.
February
A premonition of spring.
In your heart:
A winter longing
And dreams of April

Nature

Drawn by natures warm embrace
You walk the path lightly used by those before
Passing creatures held by your grace
Scolding, wary, hiding behind the green door.

The path defined by old oak trees
Arms reaching, you know you’re home
Whispered welcomes on a gentle breeze
Scents waking memories of home

Peace wrapping your troubled heart
Caressing soothing calming your soul
Serenity slowly plays it's healing part
Despair fading as nature does console

The spirit of nature makes reality fade
Taking the worries from your thoughts
Guiding you to the house in the glade
Full of memories and pleasant thoughts

You reach for the door and it opens wide
With each breathe you sense the calm
A crackling fire invites you inside
To sit at the table and bathe in the balm

While the birds sing a serenade to you
And quiet descends upon the glen
And tears on your cheeks like morning dew
Wash away the fears within

At last your soul no longer aching
As you walk along the river shore
Where ancient trees have been waiting
For you to visit them once more

To sit beside the trees so green
Hidden deep inside your heart
Where the animals and evergreens
Hum ever gently to your heart

And you look about and she is there
Reaching out to take your hand
So you smile and without a care
Slowly stand to take her hand

Together you stroll the river shore
Walking the trail you knew was there
Laughing as in years before
Death has come so rest forevermore

About this poem:
Except for perhaps some edits later on IT IS COMPLETE. I thought I would post a poem as I was writing so you could watch the process. I hope you enjoy how the poem takes on a life of it's own. Edits will happen often as well as the addition of Stanzas so check back often. I will post a comment with every edit. I hope you have enjoyed accompanying me on this journey. It has been fun for me. Let me know perhaps I will do this again sometime in the future.

Madman in the hills

when he whistles
in bright notes
carried on the wind
down into the valleys
the distant dogs
howl
so he rocks
as an effigy
billowed before
the flames
then laughing
at his own shadow
in rolling cadences
such spirited mirth
lain in the grasses
with folded hands
For am I not
shackled to the sky
he calls
as an eagle to its nest
yet 'tis where I rest
between the peaks

Losing yourself.........

Where the salt meets the sand
A path is well worn
Silent footsteps trudge
As a new day is born
Troubled thoughts left behind
For the waves are in song
Immersing your soul
To a tune that makes you strong
The air soothing your lungs
Clears the pathways to your thoughts
Engaging your dreams
Or ideas you may have brought
Losing yourself in the colours of the dawn
As the ocean laps your feet
And the day begins to warm
Broken trees remnants of broken seas
Lay imbedded in the sand
Natures art
In the palm of it's hand
There is something very magical
About the ocean and it's tide
Many walk this path of healing
To dissolve what they try to hide...............

The Hummingbird

Incredibly fast and yet so tiny
Dressed in feathers that refract the sunlight
Radiating such colourful beauty
Producing a true birdwatcher's delight

Suspending a living feathery mass
Wings beating at eighty times per second
Create a blur which for a short time lasts
Then in an instant later it is gone

Busily sipping each flower's nectar
As you rapidly flit from bloom to bloom
Viewing you in your glorious splendour
Chases away any feelings of gloom

A true master of acrobatic flight
Forward, backward and even upside down
What a marvellous captivating sight
Leaving the viewer speechless and spellbound

All bedecked in luminescent feathers
Blessed with a spectacular flying mode
Radiating such beautiful colours
That is the magic of the hummingbird

About this poem:
Trinidad, my native island, is sometimes referred to as the “Land of the Hummingbird” because more than sixteen different species of hummingbird have been recorded on the island.
The indigenous Native Americans, the Arawaks, named the island, "Iere", which, in their language, means "Land of the Hummingbird".
Two hummingbirds are shown on the island's coat of arms.

Ocean Pearls.

As oyster shells, to rocks cling
Deep in ocean, incubates bling
Beautiful pearls, matt-cloudy-clear
White-creamy-black, nature's tears

Reflector of beauty, frosted light
Shimmer not dazzle, pure in sight
Rich-classy-perfection, gem unique
Single or on strings, ladies seek

Nature's glow, giving sheer joy
Innocence so simple, acting coy
Peaceful aura, a purity so rare
Loving gift, to adorn or share

BUDS....

Beauty of buds, ripe to explode
Tree and branches, to carry load
Dainty-wrapped, pockets supreme
Captured in painting, forever seen.

Imagine fragrant, smelling sweet
Enhancing air, gives nose a treat
Our enjoyment, till petals flutter
Spent perfume-life, left in gutter

Blossoms once clustered, tight balls
Displayed in vase, waiting to fall
Nature gives beauty, enhances a day
Enjoyment gift, along life's way....

Yet many who pass, don't stop to view
Not even attracted, by colour hues
So sad nature's gift, is not seen
When happiness-beauty starts green
