Valiant Rose

The very early sudden snow storm
has caught out the rose bush
there amidst two feet of snow
bravely it opens its scarlet petals

A vivid bright spectacle against
the pure white new snow drifts
I look realising that as it struggles
proudly fighting the harsh conditions

Standing stately tall and unphased
seeming to give itself a good shake
as if to say, bring it on, do your worst
whatever you throw at me I will survive

So thus are there parallels in life
adversity rears its ugly head
when you are least expecting it
taking you unawares, off guard

Now do you go boldly forth?
display your glory to all around?
or do you fold up and give in?
the choice is in our own hands

Trickling Down

Water flowing down
cascading it goes
bouncing over rocks
laughing gleefully
swirling so fast
down the mill
trickles through pipes
rushing out
into a pool
flowing onwards
sea bound
relentless journey
from source down
to the ocean
gathering body
getting mighty
until it flows
mingling with salt
its journey ended

To Belong (Waterfall Challenge)

the roar of water
floods my senses
my hearing intoxicated
my vision overwhelmed
majestically pouring
its heart out
over time smoothed rocks
dancing within the eddies

a dress of white
cascading beautifully
elegantly softly
embellishing the surround
to be painted in colours
as bright an inspiring
as the birds in song
to allow this natural beauty
to feel to live
to belong........

The Mountain Vista

Mountain ranges all blurry
peeking through the mist
The sun is still rising
as it does the mist disperses

Showing us crevasses
faint wandering paths
near to steep ravines
trees dotted around

A quiet magical time
follows the dawn
deer appear to drink
the eagle swoops

Every where a surprise
snowdrops nestling
in a patch of snow
startling in their beauty

Loud raucous sounds
from the nesting crows
splendid ancient trees
by the winding path

High up is the summit
we toil to reach it
resting awhile to drink
in our surrounds

At last we are there
and it was worth it
at our feet valleys
full of wild flowers

All around pure magic
the vista so fresh
its images so sharp
here is an unspoilt place

The Sea and The Girl

Come my sweet lovely girl
The sea is high and has no turn,
to the warm sand it will be burnt,
and you see my little girl,
endless heart will also get wound.

Wise master sea please tell me,
Why he let the scars open widely,
Can't you wipe away my wavy,
or even let the sun drop its light brightly?

O My sweet pretty gal,
Why don't you show the world you stand tall,
or let the moon see your beautiful smile,
to the world knowing you are not fall.

Amazing sea and the underneath,
Take my soul for letting me breath,
Release your magic powerful guide,
For me who missing you the Great.

Awakening

The darkness cleared into the new day.
The world smelled fresh.....clean.
Cool air whispered hello to warm skin.
Awakening the spirit to life.

Natural Disasters

Dark sky and a huricane eye
A twister in the night
A tsunami it's gonna be
running away you can't escape
a tornado you must defeat
underground you must go
but an earthquake shakes your feet.
Snow falls an avalanch rolls
mudslide in paradise takes behold
volcano blows where will you go
lightning strikes fire burns through the night
smoke in the air. causes you to choke
open your eyes and realize
you fell a sleep in a jetted hot tub

Christmastime On The Trail

I was up in the hills, checkin' fence for Dad
While home from school on vacation.
It started to snow and soon covered the trail,
But I knew my exact location.

I put a lean-to up for my gelding Bill
Then put up a tent for me,
I started a fire, then started a stew,
Then I boiled some sassafras tea.

It was Christmas Eve and it snowed all night
But by morning the sky was clear.
I found myself thinking that this
Has to be my favorite time of year.

I got the feedbag and gave Bill some oats
Then I got my fire going again
I thought of my folks and all the guests
That for days had been wanderin' in.

They'd be on the carpet in front of the fire
And passing their gifts around,
And here's little Mary snowed in, in the woods,
My carpet, the frozen ground.

I spotted a pine tree, with cones that hung
Like ornaments Nature had made
The green of that tree was somethin' to see
Like beautiful Chinese jade.

A hidden choir of coyotes sang carols
While a brown bear watched from a hill
I boiled some more of that sassafras tea
Then sat and drank my fill.

Three mountain jays came to check me out
And flitted from branch to branch,
They too, were like ornaments on our tree
In the living room back on the ranch.

There, by now, all the folks will be sorry
I'm missing their Christmas cheer,
But when I get home, I'll have to tell them
How I had Christmas here.

Unknown

Day to Night.

Finger like clouds grasp the setting sun drawing her beneath the horizon.
She struggles with fiery ribbons of colour, alas succumbs to the darkness.
Another day grown weary of her brightness waits the enveloping night.
The hastening shadows creeping unawares steals her glow the day is done.

New moon ascending on heaven’s quilt showered with sparkling gems.
Innocent of guilt whence replacing the sun shines down with dimming light.
The earth now in silhouette reveals her hidden beauty unseen by light of day.
Ghostly forms arranged in shades of grey disguises reality as night time ends.

2AM flight song

The sense of what I say is mine.
I know what I feel and mean, even
if you deem it is just wordy drivel
it's my drivel, my spittle, to voice
into the digital winds that whirl me
just as you, smartphone in hand,
tweet your heart out to the world,
a bird with a bird song to sing,
all in cacophony of cantankerous chorus

The question is, is what each says
of any merit, any worth? If no one bothers
to hear the words, the song, the feeling
from the other bird on the branch.
Do we birds fly in the face of our
own evolution, and fall from our
own skies, like so many Icarus'?

Or, do we nest in the Y together
and nurture the young fledglings
that are us, ourselves, preening feathers
of purpose, new sense of...alive,
untritely, each bringing our own
twig, woven clumsily, into the
chaotic weave of the nest of humanity.
