music and flowers ( haiku)

soft wafting music
drifting filling the night air
with romantic tunes

bower of flowers
full of sweet scented blossoms
alive with colour

A Quiet Place...

come with me
to a quiet place...
with views serene...
above, an amazing sight
the clouds that clothe
the deep blue skies...
bring depths of hues
so warm and bright
the water comes in
gently with the tide
teasing, lapping
my feet, such delight
with views serene
mesmerize the eyes
it never fails to
touch the heart until
relieved, you'll sigh
aahh, bliss, such bliss!
to a quiet place
come with me

Come Walk With Me -----Epic

Come take a walk with me
let us stroll the savannah
I want to show you the beauty
to introduce you to East Africa

A land seeped in dark history and mysteries
where once the Tembo roamed in their thousands
mighty animals who feared no-one not even lions
capable of uprooting a tree yet also tender to young

Most Majestic king of beasts lays sunbathing
his job is protection and to father strong cubs
replete from a gnu feast he dally's the day away
at dusk he will, with his brother do a patrol

There are hidden water holes if one knows where
here the birds swoop in, parrots and love birds
weavers and horn bills, egrets and fishing eagles
all flock to drink and then if safe a lovely bath

Thorn acacias adorn this lush land their tops flat
a treat for the long neck reticulated giraffe
they nibble away and seem to avoid the thorns with a-plume
then gracefully bending down to snack on buffalo grass

Vast changes in landscape, deep rift valleys
amidst the hills filled with peace and grace
lakes that startle as so bright they sparkle
once teeming with fish now sadly rather depleted

Villages of mud and straw huts, naked children
women with just a skirt, many men in throngs
cauldron in the centre where all share the cooking
a communal building where the young men sleep

Scrub trees line the deep red soil with clumps
of dry grass, little cover here for hunter
the herds on high alert ready to take to heel and flee
the slightest movement enough to spook them

Wondrous baobab trees with root like branches
a favourite place for natives to stash food
the landscape is continuously changing, some things no more
animals hunted to verge of extinction for what good?

The herds of Tembo once numbering up to 300 per herd
with ancient leaders who had the knowledge to survive
the harshest of the droughts that can plague this land
Africa the continent of fire, of spices, filled with flora

This continent of dark mystery holds me spell bound
it hosts a vast treasure of so many things all precious
from the smallest to the largest, from stones come gems
how can I convince you that here you must visit and soon

For here in this land are so many stories to delight,
to inspire and even to soothe, and some that will enrage
the gentle poet heart. And inspired by the vast array
here on display your poets soul will be totally inspired

this and so much more was my Africa

A Lavender Sky

Casting light on shortest day my sunrise
Creeping over the top of distant hills
Marvel glowing bands of lavender skies
Quiets the lonesome night and bitter chills

Slowly, drifting, swirling clouds that appear
Their dark, bulging centers bearing more snow
Soft snowflakes fall tumbling down and adhere
Covering and hiding features below

Tell me where the soft gurgling brook went
Its sounds cannot be heard in the valley
Just the hush of dampening snows’ descent
Such long weeks before winter’s finale

Casting eyes upon the first morning light
Lavender skies….such a beautiful sight

Snowflakes

a slight breeze
and loosely packed snow
on yonder branch
comes tumbling down
in myriads of tiny snowflakes
each flake becomes a miracle
glistening in the streetlight
like a diamond

snow

sifted from the clouds it comes with out a sound. It drifts agianst the eaves and scatters the ground. It piles on fence posts and cars and shines like a thousand stars.

Wildflowers

Embedded image from another site

Wildflowers propagate wild and free
Lovely flowers not seeded to be
Growing free to behold for you and me
The very name Wildflower stems
From a genus named “disambiguation”
Defined “to make something clear”
This genus has no confusing ambiguity
Only mind’s interpretation from visual acuity
Wildflowers are abundant throughout the world
Unplanned and unified in beauty and continuity
As native gemstones and handcrafted jewlery
The showy Wildflowers number so many
Every country in the world they grow plenty
Take Primroses, Daisies, Mallows and Sages
Comforting as the Blanket Flowers and
Sprinkled with sweet innocence of Baby’s Breath
Such timeless beauty throughout the Ages
Colors rich like Scarlet Flax, Purple Coneflower
Bluebonnets, Crimson Clover and multi color Poppies
Whimsical joys like Candytuft, Catchfly and Tidy Tips
Dense and penetrating like Blazing Stars
Heavenly like Rose Angels
Deep and mysterious like Chircory
Fleeting like Bird’s Eyes and Butterfly Weed
Contemplating like Farewell-to-Spring
Unusual like Dame’s Rocket and Fire Wheel
This beautiful genus the world over is so surreal
We can almost imagine a world like Wildflowers
Growing free throughout all the lands
Colors unrehearsed and unplanned
Blown by winds and strands of time
Beauty sewn so elegantly grand
Our eyes open pure, not blind
Standing strong within united power
Understanding hearts all basking
Free from dishonesty, war and strife
Nothing-lacking only serenity everlasting
If only the world were like a Wildflower
Like the sunshine of a Gold Yarrow
With hushed silence we close our eyes
And think about Cosmos and tomorrow
Sowing Wildflower seeds of love that grow free
In the serene beauty of a new world of peace

Night Sky--- monorhyme

I came out of the supermarket to be greeted
by the most amazing sky so stunning I stopped
and just stared navy blue back ground lined
by startling sapphire streaks that were layered.

Isles of azure blue all around were dotted
and the Clifton suspension bridge framed
perfectly as if an artist had just painted
it amidst the towers that above it soared.

Driving along admittedly gawking nearly crashed
fast as possible I got to a clear spot and stared
got out heart thumping in pure joy totally bedazzled
by the superb spectacle of various blues intermingled.

As full dark came away it all faded
I rushed home and a pen I grabbed
yet I knew that justice beyond me laid
by a master poet only can it be depicted

NO CHARGE LEVIED

The tunnel i walked
was dark with darting
sun light touching spots with
tender caresses from leaf to leaf.
Touching me too
I smiled with glee.
Looking up above to the cannopy
of trees interlocked, swaying
seemingly in a loving embrace.
Life could not be better.
Crinckling leaves underfoot,
birds hopping, singing, scatching
for a breakfast in dead wood,
that invited birds in
like a street cafe
but, no charge levied.
Here my tunnel concealed me,
from the reality of bustling
people, peeping horns of traffic.
Children screeching,
dogs barking aloud.
No, I will stay in my
tunnel, under the cannopy
of swaying trees,
in peace and harmony.
No charge levied.

The Secret Glade

Within a forest in a glade,
Is Nature's finest green brocade,
It's nestled by a secret stream,
Inside the mirror of a dream.

If I should pause, to change direction,
Go to that place of soft reflection,
To sit beneath a sylvan bower,
Some dappled, sun splashed, shady hour,

A sacred glen, where Nature's free,
And shadows weave a tracery,
That laces through this hidden dell,
Where is that place? - I shall not tell.

In this green forest filled with trees,
Birds singing in their canopies,
Life is filled with extant power,
From trembling leaf to tip of flower,

Sun shining on a cloudless day,
Give me peace from the world's dismay,
To think a while in solitude,
An unspoiled place of rectitude,

I wish now for some sweet release,
And hope this song may never cease,
Within that wild and ancient glade,
Where lyrebirds sing in serenade,

In every leaf of every branch,
A gentle breeze will make them dance,
It's nestled by a secret stream,
My blissful sweet poetic dream.
