Ocean Views

Waves come in, bringing more sand
Then take it right back out again
Building up here, breaking down there
Maintaining the balance of nature’s design
Crashing-wave bubbles, frothy and white,
Some bursting in their glory, under the sunlight
Others rejoining the water source for
Another ride on life’s wave.

As I walk, my feet sink into the sand
Level, even-spaced impressions left behind
Oh so briefly before the next waves come and
Obliterate my having been, leaving no trace.
It is as it should be, leave no trace behind.
If I am to remain longer, it will have
To be within your heart and mind
While sandpipers dart back and forth

My footprints follow their own path
Close to the water’s edge as it
Laces its way across the beach
Lapping at my toes and jumping
Up to greet me with a warm
Southern drawl, caressing my thighs
Waiting for the moment when I give in
And submerge myself in its salty depth.

Quiet ~Storm

---- IMAGE REMOVED because photobucket.com no longer allows embedded images ----

Gentle as the breeze that blows
And sends the fields of daffodils
off to bow their weary heads
like fallen soldiers in the wind..

As subtle as the cloudy sky
That gently raises the home made kite
And blows ever so softly giving way,
Allowing it to take flight,

As calming as the setting sun.,
We sit and watch when the day is done..
As peaceful as the summer rain..
As it falls from a pale grey, sky.

As welcoming as the the Springtime is ,
Signalling that all life shall again begin,
And when you drink in all these things,
Then comes the Quiet storm.

And there may be lightening, and assuredly
There will be rain..
And sometimes the wind will howl and moan,
And just as suddenly all will be calm again..

And the next day when you awaken,
In the very early morn..
Drink in the sunny vibrant hues of red, yellow and blue,
That is the beauty of the Quiet Storm.

Winter blues

Cold puffy fingers sometimes white or perhaps blue
Frozen slippery steps and thoughts of chipping ice thru
Snow covered autos all in a row distinguished
entirely by a smidgeon of colour sometimes relinquished
A grim freezing day and yet many more of winter
I long for a moment of time of warmth..if only a splinter
Frozen numb wipers and sealed frozen locks
Perhaps the car will start if the battery's not shocked
Defrost forever to blurry images outside
Seems forever before I can even try to drive
Did I mention how I hate this sh..........sleet
Did I tell you I don't like it only try to survive it
Images in my head now drive me insane
More days of cold, frozen, broken, stiff, mundane,
stuck, caked, blurry, miserable, cursed misery.
Did I mention I hate winter?
Slipping, sliding, falling and shambles
Wind blowing me sideways as I ramble
Am I cold and miserable or to the point of frostbite
Can I make it thru one more cursed winter night
Did I mention I hate winter?

Yankee's Challenge ....the cactus

I am not one to bloom
Ever so frequently
So a cactus i'd say
Would rather suit me
I can sit looking ugly
All year long
If you try to touch me
I will do you wrong
But come the day
When the stars align
An the blossom of me
Is rather divine
From the smallest plant
You will soon see
Hidden beneath
The most amazing flower
Ever to be

flowers

Like a pretty ghost you tempt with fragrence, while lurking in dreamy shadows of vivid colors. Your nector draws bees on intrepid wing, seeking redemption from the long winters nap. You simbolize spring with brilliance of allureing beauty.

Infinite Creation

Embedded image from another site

As the dawn of time became forever
I kissed the lips of thy mornings golden sun
Then I said hello to everything beyond the cosmic horizon
Surfing waves of gravity upon stellar winds imagination
I question everything along the way beyond the edge of infinite creation
From ancient astronauts and Holy Gods of antiquity
Butterflies with cosmic wings afloat in staggering immensity
As my shadow hovered the surfaces of silent silver moons
Deep into the Virgo super clusters of wondrous stars in bloom
Across frozen shores of planets still awaiting new life to be born
Bringing hope to new frontiers and its existence to explore
At the threshold of contemplating an observational universe
Orbiting my thoughts of scientific truth within a multiverse
Am I capable to understand extraterrestrial or eternal life
To accept a single cell can evolve into such intelligent designs
Forever was and forever will be the path to dynasties without an end
If my God in heaven is infinite than why consider His creations any less

Contemplation

Embedded image from another site

Every morning he walked the path through immortal trees
Just right before dawn while natures at peace
Deep in the forest he listened to the shivering leaves
Celebrating their life with only the weight of a breeze
Strolling on through the wilderness still foggy with mist
With every step he's determined inhaling the wind
Surveying the landscape divided by rolling slopes
In search of the one perfect flower that will give meaning to hope
Beyond rushing streams in final remnants of night
Etched with the last silvered thorns of adorning moonlight
Near the end he discovered with sorrow decayed and disheveling trees
But then he heard cheerful whispers from the first birds to sing
As the morning swords of sunrise gave birth to new eyes
He admires the passion of the dying inspiring new life
And with contemplation he studies a beautiful rare flower in bloom
Growing upon the dead flesh of the earth and with peace his heart was consumed

Marvels of Migration Part 1 (Pt 2 is continuation)

---- IMAGE REMOVED because photobucket.com no longer allows embedded images ----

I have a place I long to be, Forty minutes from our home
Looking over ponds towards the neighbouring sea
I try to arrive, before sunrise, to wait and see the dawn.
Beyond waterfowl, whose cries announce, a new day has been born.
To watch the changing light, and kaleidoscopic sky
Royal spoonbills flying in the early morning sun
Honkings and quackings, Ducks and Swan fly by,
The glowing dawn fades, and this new day, has really begun

It is known as Miranda, after a beached gun-boat, long ago
More famous now for Shore-birds, They may be seen, to come and go
It is the southern staging post, for Godwits, Knots and more
They've flown here in a single hop, From Alaska's foreign shore.
Where they go to nest, and raise their young, in a strange and alien land
They face there, many predators, eagles, owls, foxes and bear
Strange.., for down here, they have no such dangers to fear
Such is nature, and here I am, I ponder as I gaze in awe, and stand.

The marvels of creation so long here concealed
Are being slowly studied, unravelled and revealed
We now know that the journey North is in two or three stages
It is according to the weather, the birds encounter on the way
But the reverse journey ,one hop, taking 5 to 7 days
The mysteries of migration are being studied
Radio transmitters, colour bands and other modern ways
The questions of their lifestyle, unfolding on each tide.

---- IMAGE REMOVED because photobucket.com no longer allows embedded images ----

The Northern arctic migrants spend the summer over here
Living on marine worms known as polychaetes,
Molluscs and bivalves probing with their bills
Some swishing side-ways and cleaning mud with a swill
They fatten over the summer putting on the weight
Getting ready for the return journey, awaiting a date
In March or Early April, when weather patterns suit
and in smallish numbers they gather and off they shoot.

Often their first feeding stop is in the Yellow Sea,
China, Korea, North and South, they not fussy if they're "free"
Human politics are affecting the shorebirds feeding spots
In-filling and reclamation is drying up the nourishing posts
as these nations claim land masses from estuarine feeding grounds
So our Shore-Bird Centre has become famous on the world stage
With contacts in those regions, revealing what they've found
For if such development proceeds, the birds will surely go! (cont'd in Part 2)

Our Wonderful World

Beauty is in all around
take a delicate flower
its petals slowly unfurl
as the sun shines down

The colours and the scent
released for all to enjoy
the wondrous aroma
teases the nostrils

The butterfly lands
attracted by the nectar
wings gently flapping
as it sips in delight

Bees buzz lazily
they too will feast
then make some honey
which we will eat

Oh the rolling hills
ablaze with colours
the heather seems afire
different hues abound

As I look around
I feel so glad
to be able to see
and to be alive

what a marvelous world
the sound of the brook
as it cascades down
add harmonious sounds

I pause awhile
taking in the peace
the magic of it all
mother nature at her best
