NATURE

Laying back hovering above the porch in my swing...
with eyes closed I listen to the tiny Wren sing
Repetitive knocking is that of our neighborhood Woodpecker I decree
An eerie sound echoes as gusting winds rip through every tree.

A plethora of Squirrel dissecting Acorns Ten to Twelve feet away...
several others apparently just out for play.
With feet bare I step off the porch onto a Dewy lawn...
I then look up at a breathtaking view during a yawn

From out of nowhere a rogue Raindrop lightly grazes one eye.
startling considering not one cloud hovers in the sky
Unequivocal beauty and wonderment of Nature is heaven on Earth I plea...
sadly hell is too... it's clearly visible every day on your tv.

That resilient Woodpecker is back once again...
I can't make out which tree his beak is meticulously putting holes in.
Something just sent those Squirrels scrambling back to their nest...
Oh well...I'm gonna get back in my porch swing to rest.

SCARLET THE NIGHT.

Blood red, night sky tonight
Separates slate blue, grey-white
This is twilight, sun burns out
Heaven unsure, seems in doubt

Whether wanting, fade to night
Or fighting, still burning bright
Mirrored fury, temper of nature
Like a volcano, smouldering crater

Fight time over, light hides
As new dawn, hovers to ride
After darkness, a sleeping night
Warning sun, ready for flight

Climb high, wake the earth
Another day, from morning birth
Completing cycles, twilight ends
Daily rotation, heaven sends

Makes sky, turn to scarlet night
Explosive fury, climate's right
Seasonal patterns, beauty of sorts
Powerful on water, reflection caught

Makes ocean, cauldron on boil
Fire-ball-energy, above soil
Sea, mirror dark shimmer
Power Halo, dark its dimmer

Rapid colour change, of nature
From calm towards, danger
Pastels to fire brand, in sky
Until darkness, when sun dies

Rest will engulf, when greying of night
Shakes heavens, towards black from light
Until stars and the moon. come to call
Peace takes control, as darkness falls

Autumn challenge.......5senses

I can taste the change in the air
Summer has broken and is nowhere
The colours i see have lost their spark
Leaves are drying all over the park
I feel the wind cool my skin
Carrying with it a new beginning
And hear the rustling of distant trees
Littering the ground with parched leaves
As autumn rolls around once more
I smell the intent of nature's chore......

Fire

I woke up from a dream and found a nightmare.
It's dark out but the birds are singing like everything is fine.
Will I ever sleep again? or will rats continue traveling my veins?
The tarot may tell, if I turn the cards over, or I can toss them into the fire. Why would I want to know?
The birds are singing.

WINTER SHROUD

Masts wave, through a veil of mist
Bob in the harbor, a mystery kissed
Caught in a swirling, shroud of white
Eerie the spectacle, hovering sight

Fog will lift, when out comes the sun
Later than normal, before mist runs
Back to its place, waiting dark
Leaving shoreline, edged by a park

Sailing boats, retained by moorings
Waiting a moment, to send sails soaring
Head out to sea, relaxing play-time
Stirred by wind, but looking fine

Then back to the harbour, bob and tug
Off ropes at jetties, for safety hug
Making fun scene, whether daytime or night
Allows locals and tourist, to smile in delight

When winter's, eerie mist arrives to coat
Its veil of secrecy, hiding all ropes
Tethered to hold, in numbered rows
Some with a dingy, behind them tow

Whatever the time, sea beauty remains
From ocean to club-house, friendship gains
Those swaying masts, that welcome eyes
That scour a coastline, as sea-lovers sigh......

Crisp and fresh, the climate remains
Off sea breezes, impossible to tame
Yet changes of seasons, time of day
Remind with memories, of sea-goers-play...

Auckland is of course the City of Sails...where many own some form of sailing boat in their lifetime.....but drape the scene in foggy mist, and eerie takes control......

A Road to where .........

A meandering dirt road
Carved out long ago
Enthuses my attention
As I try my best to follow
It breaks free of the rainforests grip
Out into paddocks green
Along a hilly ridge
Where mountains can be seen
Winding twisting and turning
It makes its way along
Then finds another forest
Tall timbers standing strong
Enchanted by change
The colour and the shape
I ponder on this beauty
And the variety of landscape
Deeper deeper I follow
Searching for my goal
Till glimpses of shimmering
Reveal the lake and its soul
A graveyard of trees
From years gone by
Whisper from the watery depths
Why did we have to die
I am stunned by the beauty
I am saddened by the site
But every where I turn
Nature blooms with all its might..........

A SLICE OF WINTER

Leaves drop, from branch to ground
Only wind, makes a sound
Winter, a season soon to pass
Certainly not linger, reach spring fast

Accept puddles, below grey dull skies
Constant rainfall, plant colours die
Leaves collect, in drains-hidden corners
No longer green, sunshine mourners

Fade summer tans, under heavy clothes
Dressing for weather, climate-change-pose
Aware of winter, chilly-dreary-wet
Thoughts cling to warm times, never forget

Waiting spring, promise of sun
Shedding thick clothing, as thoughts run
Ahead of nature, when warming soil
Heralds sunny days, use of tanning oil

Dreams of spring, draw us towards time
Life seems perfect, weather fine
Remember autumn, coloured rust
Harvest beauty, produce to trust

Waiting buds, blossoms that leads
Daily bright colours, season feeds
Time of regeneration, bringing life
Winter's gift, years-quarter-slice

PROGRESS FROM NATURE

Like marshlands, flatness makes the sky seem wide
Farm land, where produce ruled will eyes guide
Through lines of seedling, rising from rich fertile soil
As if to honour, the past of those who tended in toil

Reddish-brown earth, supported seedlings lush green
Basking in the sun, its downward rays focused supreme
Drawing strong growth daily, upwards to the days light
Row upon row, nature's gift of health giving delights

Field upon field, stretching acre after acre across
Ground tendered by generations, memories don't cost
Every grower a dedicated caretaker, gave their best
Planting and caring seasonal, till lay fallow for rest

Then housing needs, ends the cycle of years
Rising bricks on farmland, who'll shed tears
As residential homes creep, from city and town
Does the sky grow dimmer, unhappy as a frown

Footpaths and roads, soon criss-cross fertile land
Large homes surrounded, with tiny gardens band
together, covering past generation's product of time
Soon to be forgotten, vegetables growing in lines

Is this progress, why isn't land selectively sort
Or is it more for the money, developers bought
When children turn against a future on the land
Parents replace soil with cash, placed in children's hand.......

About this poem:
living in a productive market garden area where so many have sold their land to become housing estates....makes you wonder how it will end, though we know that family homes are important...

The World had Bled

A part of me is always a part of you
But I have no ability to begin anew
I have bled my heart beyond repair
We have taken your body and left despair

The rolling thunder plagues my soul
Is it mad desire to bequeath a dust bowl?
I breathe within you and see with knowing eyes
What we have taken comes in false disguise

For we would breathe as seeming one
Forever taking, you would strive to render undone
I would gather your richness within my hand
That slipped through fingers as grains of sand

Your winds of defiance to us tried to speak
We took your beauty and made it ever bleak
As oceans stagnate and green forests fall
It is no passing phase as a nighttimes squall

The arctic winds no longer breathe an icy chill
Mankind will eventually swallow a bitter pill
Within our nature to do too little to late
We tear out your heart and serve it on our plate

You give us life; we bring you your death
Let us both enjoy our last single breath
Like I, a heart laid open emotionally bare
The world had bled, with thoughtless care
