Why do you want a partner?

Most of us, if not all, are on a dating site because we are looking for a partner. That is the purpose of dating sites after all. We could blog on any social media site.

But why are we really looking for one?

Is it to have somebody around on the long cold evenings, for companionship ?
Somebody to do the jobs we may find difficult ourselves?
Somebody to keep us warm in bed?
Is it for financial security?
Somebody to have by our sides when we go to weddings, funerals, etc.
Is it to have somebody look after us as we age?
Or simply somebody to have sex with on a regular basis?

Does society make us feel like we are not complete without a partner or wife/husband?

Do we ourselves feel like we are not complete without a partner or wife/husband?

Why do we really want a partner?

A Common Boggle

Seems like a fair amount of us wonder why people use text shortcuts when they are not texting. What I don't understand is the way it's used when the rest of the sentence has spelled out words.

For instance, "Ur supercalifragilisticexpealidocious" Why not spell out the 'You're'?

"Y U so existentially exuberant?" Like what is the time savings here?

Is it an attempt to appear to be too cool for school? Is it an attempt to appear to be young and stupid?

Any assistance in edifying me on this subject would be greatly appreciated. :)

Online dating sites dying?

What do you think? Are online dating sites becoming a thing of old? I know with this site, I hear about how boring the blogs are becoming and therefore people are just not interested in coming to the site as frequently. There is another dating site that I have been on for some time too...and I don't use it hardly at all anymore because it just seems to be a waste of time more than anything else. But, I recently rechecked it out...being bored...and I noticed that the number of users online was significantly less...nearly half as less as I remember it. Perhaps the concept of the dating sites I use (which is only 2) is becoming outdated to some extent and people are finding other means of meeting? Or, perhaps...people don't have any interest on meeting others anymore? Or even more perhaps, maybe I have just not gotten enough information to make any sort of determinations? dunno

Don't let the old man in. Not today.

And if he pushes in anyway, don't let him make himself at home!

How old would you be, if you didn't know the day you were born? Some people are born old and some would never be old if the calendar (ok, and the mirror) didn't tell them so. They think they are supposed to let the old man in. Nope. He's a state of mind, and he's horrible.

I just listened to Clint Eastwood singing a song with the blog title, because it was his response when asked how he could be starting filming the following week when he was 88, how did he keep going? 'I don't let the old man in'. Like most C&W it's a bit mournful so I haven't included it but the quote above is from the lyrics.

I can't remember when I last did a cartwheel and I'm pretty damned sure I really can't. But just because now when you party like a rockstar it takes a few days to recover doesn't mean you never party again, right? Don't let the old bugger spoil everything that makes life sweet.

For a while CS was a haven for those who escaped the dreary world to laugh, gossip, squabble and flirt. Then we let the old man in. (No, I am not pointing a finger at anyone in particular. I am saying we let in bigotry and offensiveness and let them hold the floor, existing members as much as new ones have let the old man in)

TODAY - don't let him in. And if that feels good, tomorrow too. yay cartwheel

Mr. Wilson Comes to Tea

From the author of The Frigid Midgets, more adventures from Mrs. Crompton’s garden.

1

One morning, bright and early, Wam and Bam tripped out into the garden, as usual, to gather their daily prescription of gooseberries. It was a habit that Mrs. Crompton had encouraged, lest they forget later in the day. There were two gooseberry bushes, and Wam noticed that there was something odd about one of them. When he looked more closely, he could see that its leaves were curled up, and some had a powdery coating.

‘This doesn’t look right,’ he said, holding his chin, as people often do when wanting to make a show of seeming puzzled.

‘We’d better tell Mrs. Crompton,’ said Bam, ‘something will need doing about it.’

‘Oh dear!’ Mrs. Crompton exclaimed, when she saw the bush, ‘what are we going to do about it?’

‘We was thinking you would know what to do about it,’ answered Bam, which was his way of saying that he didn’t know what they were going to do about it.

‘We should get Mr. Wilson to come and have a look at it,’ said Wam, stroking his chin, as people sometimes do when wanting to seem to be giving something serious consideration.

‘Who is Mr. Wilson?’ asked Mrs. Crompton.

‘He’s the gardener at the big house,’ answered Bam, ‘he’s our friend.’

‘But wasn’t he the one who dug up the gooseberry bushes?’

‘It was her ladyship what made him do it,’ said Wam, referring to Mrs. Strong-Cummings, their previous employer at the big house. ‘He didn’t like doing it.’

‘And will he know what to do about our gooseberry bush, do you think?’ asked Mrs. Crompton.

‘If he doesn’t, no one will. He knows all there is to know about gooseberry bushes, and everything else what grows in gardens,’ said Bam, pointing a finger upwards to prove the truth of his statement.

‘It’s his day off tomorrow, we’ll go to the big house and ask him to come and look at our bush,’ said Wam, without touching his chin.

When they were about to set off the next day, Wam went to have a word with Mrs. Crompton:

‘Before we come back with Mr. Wilson,’ he said, ‘I just think you should know that he might not be what you’re expecting.’

‘What do you mean?’ asked Mrs. Crompton.

‘Well he looks a bit unusual, you might say, some folks gets a bit of a shock when they sees him for the first time.’

‘What nonsense,’ said Mrs. Crompton, ‘I don’t mind what he looks like, as long as he can do something about our bush.’

‘Well I just thought I ought to tell you before you sees him.’

Put God First

If you have a woman or a son or daughter you can not put them above God. If you do you are guilty of idolatry. In our society it is noble to be a selfless man who does everything for his loved ones and puts himself second. Take a step back and think about what is correct. God must be put first. If you are doing something that shows you do not trust God or that you approve of someone who is going against God you are headed for possible damnation. Look at what happened to Job. If everything and everyone is taken away from you what will you have left? Answer your relationship with God. If you put people or things above God you are not worthy of the kingdom of heaven It seems many are afraid of suffering. It is better to be faithful to God and suffer than to be a self pitying victim.! With Jesus you can get through anything and have a peace which transcends all understanding !

What does the end of all this look like?

There are some who do not know how things end.

The current dynamics that society has with the incorporation of feminism, where the traditional nuclear family is eroding....how does this social dynamic eventually end. We have never seen this type of society...ever...in human history. Some of the most brilliant minds don't even have a clue on how this ends...I have not even heard any speculation.

What do you think?

How does it end?

wave

This is a real concern among men...and perhaps should be among women as well. dunno I was just at a party over the weekend and a 20 year old man brought up the exact question to me. In addition, I was listening to a podcaster just last night, and the brilliant guest mention he didn't know how things would work out either.

Greenhouse Gases

I have an interest in environmental issues and have read articles/watched documentaries highlighting different schools of thought.

I can see the value in plant based food, creating animal and plant ecosystem style farms, moderating our domestic impact, reducing/eliminating fossil fuel usage, etc.

If you had to give up one thing, would it be animal products, or fossil fuels and why?
