Rich man

There once was a man who was tough to the bone-
who-by and large- wanted to be left alone...
So, he put up a sign saying "Keep off my grounds",
while in his front-yard, he kept two huge black hounds.
And everywhere he put up fences and walls
and installed an alarm-system inside his halls.
Then he bricked up the windows and blocked up the door
so that no one got in- which had happened before!

Now- if you had managed to enter the grounds,
past the fences and walls (not to mention the hounds),
and peeked through the hole he had left in the wall
for want of fresh air, you'd have seen his hall.
The view you'd have seen you'd have had to behold,
for the walls, floors and ceilings were all made of gold:
and this was the reason our man was alone-
why he even had ripped out the cord of the phone...

The walls were like mirrors. He needed no friend,
for he was surrounded wherever he went
by his own reflexion; which (to his own mind)
was really sufficient (unless he'd go blind).
And so he was quite happy, alone with himself-
'til the day he had wanted to hang up a shelf.
He just took what he needed- a hammer and nails
"...and the first-aid-box, just in case everything fails".

So he'd thought to himself. His reflection agreed,
and with hammer in hand, he got up on his feet.
He went up to the wall- something caught his attention;
a torrent of words (far to nasty to mention)
escaped from his mouth. "How did you get in here?
...Put your hands on your head now, and hold it right there!!!"
He lifted his arm to look threatening and tough
in the hope the intruder would not call his bluff...

But as he came closer, he clearly could see
that this fellow was armed. "Keep your distance from me!"
Now stricken with panic, he turned and let fly:
With his hammer he caught the intruder. Bullseye...
The hammer hit home full of power and might-
and so did reality. Through all the fright
(...and even before that!) our friend simply failed
to see that in truth he had always been jailed...

The fellow he saw in the mirror was real-
our friend was the image. Unable to deal
with the truth, he had managed to shatter himself-
while he had been trying to hang up a shelf!
Revival was futile- but few even tried;
and all attempts failed. Even fewer then cried:
No first-aid-kits, band-aids or ambulance-men
could put Humpty-Dumpty together again...

About this poem:
Oh- behold this image upon the upright mirror-
The curse of this, the great man:
Being ignorant of misery- to build another man's misfortune upon misfortune
until curse conceives curse...

Christ has no body but yours

Christ has no body but yours,
No hands or feet on earth but yours,
Yours are the eyes with which he looks,
Compassion on this world,
Yours are the feet with which he walks to do good,
Yours are the hands with which he uses to bless the world,
Yours are the hands,
Yours are the feet,
Yours are the eyes,
You are his body.

Christ has no body now but yours,
No hands no feet on earth but yours
Yours are the eyes with which he looks Compassion on this world,
Christ has no body on earth but yours

Truth,Lies,Time to choose

Farewell half truths and lying speech,
corruption you have wrought
upon the souls of mortal man
when truth she should be sought.

Who knows when first that lie in us,
took hold and like a seed did grow
A white lie, a kind lie, acceptable became
and truth in its beauty lost its glow.

Economical with the truth,
embarrassed we defend with such
And the little acorn there became
a tree with lies so much.

And there entwined we find ourselves,
trapped by our tongue and heart
But time has come to cast them off
and bid them to depart.

Sail on the ship of truth
to waters clear and sweet
where beauty is the truth itself
and loving words there meet.

Not easy to get rid of such
it has to be said true
and full truth can be painful
well it's what we have to do.

Honesty, and speaking out
as you see it there,
and rise a phoenix from the ash
and to some clearer air.

Measure of Man

The measure of a man is not in his reputation
Unless it is the man who gives into temptation
Be careful the words you're speaking, what principles you're placing
Cause every single action has a day when you will face it
If you're keeping up with the times than you're already outdated
You think I'm lost in the clouds, but the clouds are where my faith is
For years I've been faithless, but for me that was basic
Dealt a life full of obstacles but I promise you I'll make it
The problem doesn't stress me it's the measures that I'm taking
Bad circumstances strengthen my determination
Don't focus on the money it's a product of my patience
Treasure ain't made of paper but of quality relations
The only guarantee in life is that it ends with you naked
So all of you that build check the ground where you're breaking
If it's possessions that you seek, than you fools are mistaken
True enlightenment is found way back in the making
Patience is a virtue, selected few earn the product
I dedicate my time and submit to the process
Acknowledge if it's fate, ain't nothing that can stop it
So I swim against the current and disregard all the comments
It's an interesting dilemma when all you have is options
I'm too talented to fail, execution's almost flawless
I fell too many times that I learned to be cautious
Risk is neccessity there's no excuse for any losses
Sleep on me now but I prefer you subconcious
It's better if you woke, you can witness the colossus
They'll speak to me for ages or remain in mental cages
The early bird gets the worm, the one sleep gets starvation
A lot of times in life it pays to be couragous
But speak in certain phrases and get no admiration
They'll phase you out in stages, left in isolation
The house is looking spacious but the barn is where you made it
I'm thankful for his patience, God really has arrangements
About to serve him only and never get complacent
If I get too outta placement, remind me of this statement
I owe the man my life, so my life I will pay him

The Quotes Garden - XXI – Breathe

"The Quotes Garden"

[ XXI ]

Breathe

“Breathe in, -
As in a moment you go deeper;
Deeper; alike a whisper,
To let you in, as my keeper.

Breath out.
And here you are; with me,
- In the eye of a twister –
Whole; - quiet as me;

Breath in.
Just let me be –
The pulse gathering you,
The life in a squeeze –

Breath out.
Now let me freeze
- Within your gentle breeze;
A heart is humming for you.

Breath in.
Let me wait for the cue; -
Tick, tack, - tick, tack, - tick, tack.
- That’s how much I love you!.. -

Breath out.
Follow this maze, to come back,
- Spinning deep, in my heart,
A keynote piercing the crack;

Breath in.
Follow the dot on the chart,
Finding my soul –
A soothe; a cradle; an oasis;

Breath out.
We are a whole; –
Everything what is art
It’s on a regular basis.”

The Man On The Moon

As children we are told that the moon has a face on it,
With our childlike eyes we see a friend - the man on the
Moon. There he sits in the sky looking down on us,
With his friendly smile, loved by children everywhere.

There is a misconception that there really is an actual man
Up there, but there are others who say that he is made of
Green cheese, but we also find this hard to swallow. Yes, the
Moon is said to make people go mad by looking

At it too long, and lovers would not be romantic without
It. Even the witches are supposed to fly accross the
Face of the moon flying on their broomsticks during
Halloween. Yes, the moon has many sides to it: some

Good and some evil, but the prettiest sight is when
The moon is at it's fullest, showing that wonderful
Round face of the man on the moon smiling down at you.

Down, but not out...

"Out and about in town on a selfish shopping spree"
I noticed you were sat in a doorway, cold, homeless and ever so hungry

"I stood and watched as you were ignored,
people walking straight by, avoiding eye contact'

"Your hair was matted, with grubby clothes, and dirty fingernails"
the dullness of your eyes, and tear stained face, you were crying out for help, your tired body screaming to be embraced

"Feelings of guilt had overtaken me, look at you, and look at me, out and about on my self indulgent shopping spree"

"Approaching you I crouched to my knees in front of you, I took your fragile hand and gently raised you to your feet

"I walked you to a nearby diner, a place where you can be warm, a place where you could choose all that you wanted to eat

"You had a full English, and big mug of hot tea, I had a black coffee as I watched you eating hungrily and hastily "

"You were silent throughout, never speaking or questioning me, you gaurded your food so greedily and protectively"

"I drove you to my mother's house who never turned a soul away, 'look after her mother' I said, while I shop her some clothing, I'll be back later
to see how she's doing"

"On my return my mother greeted me, Tis an angel you found my son, go in and look at her...I walked in the living room and there you were sat, bathed and clean, hair long and golden, and with eyes of blue, I stood there stunned I could not take my eyes of you"

"There at my mother's you remained, for 2 years she cared for you, easing your suffering and ridding ou of your pain"

"Good friends we remain until this day, you built a life for yourself now..with a place of your own, and a good job too..often we get together and you recall that day, when I rescued you and altered your path in so many way's".

LETTING GO

If you've had your deceased pet taxidermied
It won't return as the one you knew
'Cause you'll be holding on to a moment in time
For a great deal longer than it wants you to
And because of emotional taxidermy
Our daily lives can become one long sigh
So it's best if we try to get it out of our lives
Before it tears at our hearts until we die

But when a loved one departs from our lives
And our grieving for that dear one barely begins
It is hard to live on and hard to cope
And our unchecked emotion often wins
So when do we wake up and let go?
And when is it time for us to say
That now it is that very moment
Or that this is the first new day?

Perhaps it would help if we all could heed
The wise words heard by one who still loves
By one who has faced the pain and the loss
Of the mate she called her darling 'Bubs'
"When I go" she heard him whisper
"Please promise that you'll do this for me
Make sure that you don't sit around and ponder
But instead of that look ahead and see"

"That there's always a time for letting go
And making sure that you move on with life
So please don't hold too long to the past
Because it can lead to emotional strife
It's then that your thoughts will start to turn inward
And that can lead to ill health and despair
So letting go of the past and of the grief
Can help you heal as well as others who care"

Those wise words I've since taken on board
And now I'd like to share them with you
So we can all learn how to step forward
And let go as I've taught myself to do
Now when my emotions are tightly locked up
And I'm aware that I somehow can't move head
Those wise words whispered by Bubs
Help me to let go and not face life with dread.

About this poem:
It broke my heart when I had muy darling cat Bubs euthanised and then cremated. He was 16. I took ages to get over feeling that I had murdered him and finally wrote this poem about my feelings and what I now refer to as 'emotional taxidermy'. Perhaps it's my background in educational psychology which prompted such a term!

Prayer of the soup kitchen

Embedded image from another site

Trumpet sounds
penniless dignity
black and white
pavement heart
impoverished souls...

Downtrodden parade
shameful faces
some look away
others wish you
a blessed day...

Help me Father
ease my hunger
a celebration
of family and friend
thank you Lord...

The soup kitchen
holy place
God help the hungry
who wake up
with the sun
until the day comes
when they can't...
