Fallen Defender

A mournful sky cries overhead
Soaking the streets of a life I once led
I am gone now ,all I am are my bones
Hidden beneath these funeral stones

Once I led a happy life here
Gone now, no more in my beloved Bendir
The Hawkins now with pride sing my name
They know how I died and they'd do the same

I accepted the burden to defend this land
I sold my life dearly at my final stand
If had more than but one life I'd lay it down again
For the Dales are my love and for it there's no blame

So mark you well this site where I now rest
Quell your sorrowful heart in your beating breast
You may weep because I had to fall
Just remember it took my love for it to matter ever at all.

About this poem:
Another Song/poem from My Fantasy Bard Allwyn Marcher.
This one needs a little explanation.
In the Fantasy world where Allwyn lived and died, he made his home in a small town Called Bendir, ( think medieval market town LOTR style, but with magic being more common place), located in Bendir Dale
The Hawkin Is a bit like a local Militia )combined peace keeping force and town guards) in the Dale, it is a Voluntary organisation dedicated to protect Bendir aid travelers along its dangerous roads, Also the actively seek out threats against the Dale and Bendir (Orc uprisings, Evil wizards, ect ect),
Members of the Hawkin are Called Defenders, Allwyn became Defender
This song was written By Allwyn as a tribute to one of his brothers in arms who fell in battle against a powerful foe In defense of the Town

The Midday Rain

It was nice to see the midday rain
I got my guitar and I began to sing
Just a little song about the midday rain

I felt safe on the porch
Which was covered with tin
The midday rain helped the music to blend

And then came the wind and the chimes were right on cue
The midday rain gave all this to me
And now I give it to you

Although the words were just a few and the rain is coming to an end
You'll remember chimes my guitar midday rain and me
And you were invited to and we spent time on a porch covered with tin

Singing Out The Truth

I am the truthful singer,
they wish see destroyed
my words they have upset them,
they really are annoyed

For the songs I sing, seem to wound and sting
like a rotten broken tooth.
And the best yet,
I get death threats
just for singing out the truth

I will sing songs of injustice,
all across the land
Poke my barbs at the corrupted
until they change their plan

For the songs I sing, seem to wound and sting
like a rotten broken tooth
Threaten violence
I wont be silenced
just for singing out the truth

Beat your drums 'gainst power drunk tyrants,
do all that you can do
Sing with me in my defiance,
Stand straight stand tall stay true

For the songs we sing, will wound and sting
like a rotten broken tooth
we can all be free
live in liberty
just by singing out the truth

This was a response by Allwyn Marcher, (my D&D bard), to having assassins set upon his trail to try and make him either shut up or die.

The Outsider View

Sky pierced by stars
The game of connecting dots
Constellations twinkle

The last bird singing
In the chorus at sunrise
Singing from his heart

The portrait wanted
To move outside the frame
Something new to try

Wrapped in quilt of dreams
From the fog of sub-conscience
Words precipitate

Waves wash away my steps
A blanc page to start over
Leaves swayed by the breeze

The lost outsider
Bumped into the world’s problems
Bruises and scratches

Falling From Grace

Sit no longer on high pedestal
you once thought you were
No longer idols or instructor
Nor wanted as provider or protector

Betrayed by hubris that blinds you
brutality retribution oppression
Your words of respect and Duty
replaced by venomous false accusations

Play with malevolent resentment
In a game of political chess
Veiled in duplicity and lies
Your motives are all now suspect

The Boundless Explorer

Travelling a lonely road
my mandolin beside me,
This bleak steep winding pathway,
to the top of a hill

My thoughts so bright so clear today,
I hope they last forever.
Warriors escort me to horizons,
I was always waiting for.

No matter where they lead me,
I will be ready to be there.
The rocky path is cold and dark,
blue sky turning grey.

But today I wont stumble,
just climb up to the distant stars.
My knowing mandolin just plays
every story that I lived.

I feel so free on this hill.
Wonder what the reason is?
Lightening strikes within me,
but still I feel no wounds.
I feel this is a reckless dream,
and It wont ever let me go.
Soaring as fast as possible,
take me there before the dawn

The smoke is all around me,
the road has left time far behind.
The sky black and unseen.
the air hot and dry.

Waiting for rain drumming,
on ground I can’t remember
All I knew now somewhere else,
All to it's end will come.

Despite the bloody weather
road so full of broken bones
ever closer to my goal,
never knowing what's ahead

I reach the top the hard way.
glance restfully behind the hill,
To see a haunting thought of mine,
in the middle of my head.

I am so free on this hill.
Knowing what the reason was
That lightening struck within me,
not leaving any wounds
I know this is my reckless dream,
but I wont ever let it go.
Soaring as fast as possible
I'll be there before dawn

Red Dragon Island

Led by relentless bent to wander,
searching marvels which to ponder.
Spying out a rocky highland,
we land upon red dragon island.

Horizon to horizon destruction spread,
laid waste by fire, full of dread.
Streams where once did verdance thrive,
broken bloated corpses now do lie.

Across blasted, burning moat,
to Cavern deep, retreat unsought.
Recoiling from foul breath stench,
On pommel do the fingers clench.

A roar shatters, rents and wrenches,
ripping gashes in our senses.
lips a'curling Nostrils flare,
eyes glow with hungers fire.

The ancient, red 'neath leather wings,
whispers promise of the death it brings.
Teeth of ivory, finely honed,
Sharpened on the scattered bones.

Seeking searching scent of life,
piercing deepest gloom with clearest sight.
Fiery, mad, wicked, perverse.
Evil bringer, unnatural force

With talons locked and greedy eyes,
trying to seize defenseless prize.
Pulling victims to its maw,
sparkling teeth, slathering jaws.

Finding new courage terror assuaged,
rallying as music is played.
Facing down death with companions dear,
we overcome dragon fear.

playing tunes meant to tantalize,
and then to slow and blind it's eye.
singing songs so to detain,
The dragon rage with their refrain.

We fought as music lulled it's senses.
Fought as music firmed our defenses.
This was the way the beast to conquer,
with music iron, steel, and magic conjured.

Claws flailed reaching for our destruction,
biting tearing mangling crushing.
It's fury rising to know no avail,
safe in the dance we did prevail.

With sword arrow spell and song,
finally the beast was done.
For the music had all inspired,
and the evil dragon had expired

With good cheer and many a smile,
we sailed our way from that bleak Isle.
For now dead lies that fiend within its cave,
insuring more than I be saved.

Bloomin Onion

Here eat this!
Here eat that
Look at you
Now you're fat!
Go out find stuff to do
Get munchies off your mind
Soon you'll find your feeling great!
The munchie left behind
Watch out for the munchies!
I remember this on TV when I was growing up in the early 80s
Then I went to Outback Steakhouse and had their Bloomin Onion
With 1950 calories, 3840 mg of sodium
It ranks as the most unhealthy appetizer out there
And
It's delicious!

About this poem:
I remember Rob and Fab from Milli Vanilli saying a large part of their success was eating right with lots of fruits and vegetables. I saw a retelling of my favorite story from my youth of The Pumpkin Giant. In it a boy gets in shape and teaches the fat girl how to get in shape too. His dad kills the pumpkin giant, his mom makes yummy pumpkin pies, her dad the king knights the dad for killing the pumpkin giant after eating a pumpkin pie that grew out of his busted up head, and they all live happy and healthy together.

War And Peace

One day; the invalid king, well, he raised his brow,
Sent off the best that he had,
To slow that army down,
Against demons, warlocks, witches, imps,
And beasts of the unknown,
Before the battle began,
It was already carved into stone,--

What stands between war and peace,
Is that love between you and me?--

A psychedelic storm,
Then the moon broke through,
Hail to the Captain!,
Was sung from the crew,
A rumble in the waters,
And, who could that be?,
It was Neptune himself!
Was the last thing they would see,--

What stands between war and peace,
Is this love between you and me?--

Thousands of years come to pass,
From the price we've paid,
What has happened to us all?
No one here would say,-
The life we live now,
You know it's only a game,
Chivalry long gone,
And everyone's to blame,--

What stands between war and peace,
Is there love between you and me?--

Laughter Of The Wizard

The Wizard grinned at his forsaken sins,
Up from the gallows- there he went,
Hearing the sounds of the ancient chimes,
"The moon is full- now I must fly,"
Spreading his wings aimed towards the sky,
Of what Angels feared, mortal man had to hide,
Demons warring by his side,
On the ground, the great warriors ride,

The first warrior, he withdrew his sword,
Through demon flesh- there it soared,
His piece of steel spoke so loud,
The Wizard laughed, then struck him down--
The second warrior, he carried his axe,
Stepping into a world of all black mass,
Almost victorious across the land,
The Wizard laughed, and turned him into sand--

The third warrior fought with his spear,
For in his heart, he had no fear,
Killing over a thousand in one day,
The Wizard laughed, and cast him into clay--
The fourth warrior, protected by his shield,
To no man; nor, beast he would not yield,
The Wizard laughed, without giving chance,
He changed the warrior into grass--
The Wizard got jazzed!

The fifth warrior killed with a dagger,
But, the odds against him made him stagger,
Beginning to lose his will and desire,
The Wizard laughed, changing him into fire--
The sixth warrior had no soul,
His weapons were his guitar and Rock-n-Roll,
Through his music the Wizard frowned,
Blinded his magic due to the sound--
The Wizard found himself at his wishing well,
Screaming out of how he failed,
Sworn to vengeance,
But, now he dwells,
Inside the deepest hole in Hell-

About this poem:
I wrote this one 10-17-94, just barely over two months after I "turned on, tuned in, and dropped out" and went to Woodstock '94! lol Putting this in here, I thought it might put a little change of climate into some readers minds. Something wild and out of the ordinary, perhaps?
